Klax
Review by blueb11
"My Mom Found This In Her Closet"
My mother found this in our new house, in the laundry room/closet. Knowing I owned a Game Boy, she asked if it was mine. I said no.
Well, it was then. So I popped it in my dark blue Game Boy Pocket and proceeded to play.
The words ''KLAX'' appeared in big black letters. I could choose from wave 1, wave 6, and wave 11.
The game was surprisingly easy. There were 100 waves, each with an objective. For some, you had to get 5 diagonals. For others, you may have to stay alive for 50 tiles.
A klax is three of the same-colored blacks in a row. There were many different blocks, including a wild one that flashed white and brown.
This game is good for short play, but it can get extremely boring.
Challenge 3/10
The puzzles aren't really challenging at all, except when you're trying to make an ''X'' on a warp screen. You can only hold 5 blocks on a paddle.
Gameplay 2/10
You just arrange blocks. You can't rotate them like in Tetris, and that wouldn't help anyway. And after about five or six waves, it gets so boring!
Replay 4/10
Being a puzzle game, it has a tendency to make you come back for more. In this case, you come back for disappointment.
Graphics 1/10
The extent of the graphics is the flashing blocks and designs on the blocks. 'Nuff said. They suck.
Music 0/10
No music.
Secrets 0/10
No secrets. No codes. No cheats. Nothing. Just blocks.
Overall 3/10
This is a poor excuse for a puzzle game. It frequently gets boring and although the wave objectives are different, it seems very repetitive.
Buy or Rent: Neither. Have your mother find it in the closet in your new house. You probably couldn't buy or rent this game anyway, as it is over a decade old.
Klax is a little known game. It's for Game Boy, but can work on Game Boy Color, of course. There is also another Klax, not be confused with this one. The other Klax is for Game Boy Color, and is much more popular than it's Game Boy counterpart. Klax has also been on many other systems, including NES, Commodore 64, Atari 7800, and Lynx.
Klax is poorly-designed and repetitive. While Tetris will remain strong forever, I do not believe Klax was, or will be, ever a good game. I pray someday we will see a Klax game out there, one worth finding in a closet, even renting.
