WWF Superstars
Review by Gruel
"You mean this game was made by Rare!"
Graphics: 6: The characters are pretty big and nicely detailed and you can tell who is who. One of those wrestling Game Boy games that sacrificed a view of the ring to make the wrestlers look bigger. Of course, there's the obvious downside, no color. By the way, did you know this game was developed by Rare? The same people that made the Dokey Kong Country games, Goldeneye 007, and Jet Force Gemini!
Sound: 6: Theres entrance music for all 5 wrestlers in the game. The game has an annoying gameplay music that you can't turn off. The sound effects are done nicely with all the punches and kicks.
Gameplay: 6: Well, this was the first wrestling game on Game Boy and it didn't offer a lot. There was only 5 wrestlers to choose from: "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior, Mr. Perfect, and "Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase. The only gameplay mode was single championship where you can set a time limit and have either 1 fall or best 2 out of 3. Championship mode was pretty easy where you beat the other 4 wrestlers in the game and get the lamest ending ever, which is a really crappy pinup of your wrestler. The actual gameplay isn't that great. The only moves you can pull off are a bodyslam, a hurl that throws your opponent across the ring, and a leg type slam, plus all your various leg drops and elbow drops too. The game does have a 2 player link mode, however so you can go at it with your friend in singles mode.
Replay Value: 5: Once you beat this game there was no point in doing it again unless you wanted to do it with a different wrestler to see another lame pinup, and there really was no point in doing that because there are only 5 wrestlers in the game and it would probably take about 1 to 2 hours to do so. The Game Link mode is fun though and is probably the only reason why you don't want to toss this game in the closet along with all the other crappy LJN/Acclaim Game Boy games.
Overall: 6: The game is alright overall.Don't get the game for the 1-palyer mode. A tag team mode would've been nice to add, but at least there is a vs. mode. You only have to pick up a copy of this game if you know another buddy who has a copy of it too, but I recommend playing link mode in Superstars 2, a game that's a whole hell of a lot better than this.
