"A great Game Boy action/adventure title, but a little short"

In Castlevania Legends, you assume the role of Sonia Belmont, the first of the Belmonts to gain fame as a vampire hunter. She sets off to destroy Dracula and save her country from this insidious evil and his army of foul beasts, and beating them will be no walk in the park for this 17 year-old girl.

The game takes place over five levels (plus a secret one), and contains a host of abilities. The gameplay is basically standard Castlevania fare, with a few tweaks like the ever-useful Burning Mode and the Soul Weapons like the life restoring Ice Spell. During her travels, Sonia meets up with Alucard, Dracula's son, and you learn a little more about the enigmatic vampire's history. The levels are full of explorative and action elements; you'll have to whip through many enemies to reach the end, and you'll have to look through every nook and cranny of the game to find the Collection Items, which affect the games outcome, though it's not all that challenging to find them all, as I got all six the first time through.

The one problem I have with the game is that it's too short, and the Burning Mode makes the bosses a little too easy. In fact, the only level you might have a great deal of trouble with is the Clock Tower (Level 3). And although the graphics could have been better, they're passable for Game Boy. But despite this, the game is a great title for Game Boy owners.

Score:

Graphics 5.0
Control 7.5
Sound 8.0
Challenge 6.5
Fun 9.0
Replay 8.0

Recomendation:
If you like action/adventure games, pick this one up.
