"Black And White Blast"

Othello...the black and white virtual board-game, where you try to get the most pieces of your color on the board. I decided to get the game 2 years ago, when I went to Hong Kong, purchasing a 148-games in 1 cartridge. After playing this game on it, I found the game quite good. This is what I think of this Game-boy game...

Ill break it down:

Gameplay-8/10

The game is pretty easy to understand. You and your opponent are each a color (black and white). Your objective is to have more of your color on the board than your opponent. When you put a piece down, if you have 1 or more of your opponent's pieces in between 2 of your pieces, their pieces change to your color. The game-play sounds boring, but when you actually play the game, it's actually kind of fun.

Control-7/10

The controls are also easy to learn. Just press the "A" button to place your piece on the board. Your opponent does the same. Although easy, you get tired of doing the same thing over and over, so it's never really fun unless you make it timed.

Sound-6/10

The sound is where this game gets bad. The music is terrible, and annoying at times, so it would be best to have a silent game. The only reason it's rating isn't as low as it sounds is because the sounds it makes when you place your pieces is funny, and a pleasure to hear in a silent game. The sound-effects are good, but I still think you should have a silent game.

Difficulty-8/10

The difficulty is one of the good things this game has. If you are a beginner, you should probably have a no limit game. However, after you have played a few games, try a timed game, and the difficulty sets in. If you take too long to place your pieces, you're in trouble. Also, the computers at the lowest level are hard to beat. Trying to beat them your first 15-20 times will be trouble. You'll only be good at it if you practice a lot, but you'd be lucky if you were skilled at this game on your first try.

Overall-7/10

The makers of Othello tried really hard to make this a good game, and ended up with a decent board game for people of all ages to enjoy. I still say they should have worked on their music a little more.

Rent it or Buy it?

If you really like board games, no matter how difficult they are, I suggest you buy the game, because it'll be a challenge to you. Other than that, you may want to borrow a friend's, just to see if this game is right for you.
