4. Controls
*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*&*
This is a very easy game, so controls are simple enough.  But, I have
also outlined the different Lemming tasks here too.  Aren't I awesome?!

    A Button:  Assign tasks to Lemmings.
B Button:  Hold to bring up the task menu, and then use left and right to
scroll through the different tasks.  Once you have selected the task you want,
release B. This can also be done after pausing the game, which makes it easier
to change tasks when you have to manage many different groups of lemmings at
one time.
    Start Button:  "Paws" the game.  (You'll get the joke in a minute)
Select Button:  Quit the current level.  All remaining Lemmings on screen
are considered dead.  Used when you really screwed up the level, or when you
have the reequired number of lemmings tofinish the level and just want to go to
the next quickly.
    D-Pad:  Moves the cursor and selects tasks.
    L Button: Makes the screen wider.  (GBA, GBA SP, and GBP only)
    R Button: Makes the screen normal size.  (GBA, GBA SP, and GBP only)

      Now I shall list all of the Lemming tasks, starting from the left.

Climbers:  Once you give this to a lemming, he will climb any vertical
surface he walks into for the rest of the level, until he either dies or gets
to the exit.  Combine with the Floater to make an Athlete.  The icon looks like
a lemming climbing.  (It actually looks like a funky dance to me...)

Floaters:  Once given the Floater task, the lemming will pull out a little
umbrella and float down safely instead of going SPLAT after walking off of high
cliffs.  This can't save him if he falls off of the screen, though. Combine
with the climber to make an Athlete.  The icon looks like a Lemming holding an
umbrella.

Bombers:  This kills your Lemming!  Once you give this to a lemming, he
will walk around with a 5-second fuse on his head.  Once it reaches zero, he
will explode, which can create holes in soft surfaces like dirt.  The icon
looks like an explosion.

Blockers:  This makes a Lemming stop walking and block the path for all the
Lemmings following it.  You can only get rid of him by blowing him up or
digging the ground out from under him.  The icon looks like a Lemming with his
arms sticking out.

Builders:  This will make a lemming build a bridge that makes a 45-degree
angle with the ground (that's pi over four radians if anyone cares).  The
lemming has 16 bricks to build with, and he will keep building until he
finishes or hits his head.  You can have him build only half a bridge by
telling him to build then bash, mine, or dig right after he starts building.
Once he uses all 16 bricks he will shrug his shoulders and then walk off.  If
you need a longer bridge then tell him to build again while he is
shrugging his shoulders.  The icon looks like a lemming building.

Bashers: This will make a lemming dig a tunnel straight in front of him.
The icon looks like a lemming punching.

Miners:  This makes a lemming dig a tunnel at a 45-degree angle into the
ground.  The icon looks like a lemming holding a pick-axe.

Diggers:  This makes a lemming dig straight down.  The icon looks like a
lemming digging.

Paws:  This pauses the game.  Get it?  Paws?  Pause?  Hahaha...  I'll shut
up now.

    Nuclear Explosion:  Exits the current level.  This is just like pushing
select, except you get to watch all of the lemmings blow up.

Simply have a lemming dig a hole, just not under the entrance, or a lot
of lemmings will go splat.  Some will probably die from the fall to the exit,
but that's okay.  For some reason, the game won't let me have more than three
lemmings dig at once.  I don't know if all games do that, or if mine is just
messed up, but it will cause problems later.

Tailor Made For Blockers

Place a blocker to the right of the entrance.  Let a lemming walk off of
the ledge that you just put a blocker on, then let it keep going off of this
ledge.  Make him block at the end of this ledge.  Let the next lemming hit this
blocker and he will keep going until he falls off of this ledge, then make him
a blocker.  Let the next lemming hit this new blocker and then let him fall off
of this edge.  Make him block at the end of the new ledge.  Then let the next
lemming keep going until he reaches the ground, then make him block.  The
remaining lemmings will go to the exit, and you will have to nuke the blockers.

Mine a tunnel down to the lower level.  Then make every lemming into a
climber so that they can reach the exit.

Make a lemming back through the first two obstacles.  This next part is
annoying because you have to tell the lemmings to bash through each piece of
this net-type obstacle to get through.  Once you do reach the exit, all the
lemmings will get there eventually.  Or just nuke the rest of them once you get
five.

Now For Blockers And Bombers

Put a blocker on the thin material that they start out on, and then make
him a bomber.  Once he blows up, he will make a hole in the floor.  Then make
another blocker/bomber combo at the thin wall blocking your way to the exit.

Have You Tried A Builder?

Simply build a bridge to get onto the next ledge.  Then build over the
pit you will come to.  Some lemmings will fall in but you can make them build
their way out, or make them athletes, or just leave them there if you already
saved enough to finish the level.  Once the bridge over the pit is done, the
lemmings that didn't fall in can reach the exit.

Make a lemming bash through the wall.  The other lemmings will be sent
back to the giant blade.  Make the first lemming there into a blocker before he
reaches the fan.  Once the basher finishes his work, the lemmings can reach the
exit.

Make the first two lemmings out into Athletes.  Once they get over the
giant barrier, make the one closer to the exit into a blocker and have the
second one bash through the barrier in the direction of the arrow.  While he is
bashing, turn the blocker into a bomber to get rid of him.  Once the basher
finishes, the lemmings will be able to reach the exit.

Turn the first two lemmings into Athletes.  Block the other lemmings from
falling off of the cliff.  Once the two athletes get to the platform with the
exit, have one block and the other build back to the other build back towards
the block he just came down off of, over the pit that is there.  While he is
building, have a lemming on the other side bash his way through.  Also, blow up
the blocker you created by the exit.  Once everything is done, the lemmings can
exit.

      Simply turn every lemming into a Floater and let them go to the exit.

Make the second lemming out block.  Have the first one bash through the
wall and then let him fall to the ground.  Make him build one bridge right
before he enters the small pit of doom, and then make him build again after he
falls off of the first bridge.  Have him keep building until he reaches the
wall, and then make him bash.  If you screwed up and he turned around, make him
build another bridge over the pit so he doesn't die.  Soon he will hit a wall
and go back to try another bashing attempt.  He should bash through the
vertical part of the column, and then through a horizontal piece.  Let him keep
going until he gets to the exit.  Then bomb the blocker to let the other
lemmings get to the exit.

Danger, The Bridge Is Out

Make the second lemming out into a blocker after he gets out from under
the entrance.  Make the third lemming into a blocker after he hits the first
blocker and walks to the other side of the entrance.  This will trap all of the
lemmings for you except for one.  Make that lemming build right before he walks
off of the screen at the bottom of the level (Not RIGHT before, he'll die that
way. Do it when he is halfway down the diagonal path into the pit.).  You will
need two bridges to make it.  Once he reaches the area with the two giant
columns, have him bash through both, as he gets to them.  Once he gets through
the second column, have him build a bridge over the gap in the path (make as
many as you need) and then he can get to the exit.  Then bomb the blocker that
prevents the lemmings from going right and they can reach the exit.

Do Not Do Anything Too Hasty

Use the same blocking technique from the last level so that you have one
lemming free to work.  Have this lemming build one bridge at the end of the
platform so that when he's done, he will land on the base of the spike.  Once
he reaches the top of the spike, have him build two and a half bridges (after
you tell him to build for the third time, tell him to bash and he will stop
half-way).  Have him build another two and a half bridges at the end of the
small platform you just got on to reach the next platform.  Then have him build
two bridges at the end of this platform to reach the exit.  Don't forget to
free your other lemmings.

It Looks Very Easy

Just have a lemming from the right entrance point bash through the
barrier that blocks his path to the right.  Then as lemmings fall off of the
cliff you just made, make them Floaters so that they don't splat.  The lemmings
from the left entrance will be killed by traps.

The floor and walls are all thin surfaces that can be bombed through.
But, we have diggers, so we can just use those instead of bombers.  Have a
lemming dig in the floor after he passes the first thin column under him.  Then
have another dig right after he passes a thin column under him on the new floor
you reached.  Now have a lemming dig right before he passes another column
under him.  Let the lemmings that fall down this hole hit the column, then have
one dig before passing over another column.  They can now reach the exit.

Block all but one of the lemmings in.  Then have him build over the pit,
and then bash through the rock that is in the path.  Free the other lemmings
and they will go to the exit.

Make the first and third lemmings out block so that all new lemmings are
trapped.  You should have one lemming free to bash through the wall to the
left.  Keep bashing until you reach a pit that goes to the bottom of the
screen.  Build over it and continue bashing.  You will be in another pit, but
this one has a bottom.  Let the lemming fall to the bottom and make him bash
again to reach the exit.  Then release the other lemmings.

Dig through the floor so that the lemmings land on the next floor.  Then
let them walk a little and dig again.  Then place a blocker and blow him up so
that the hole in the floor will allow the other lemmings to fall to the
platform with the exit.

Lemmings Lemmings Everywhere

Try to make the second lemming block so that one lemming goes ahead and
the rest are trapped.  Let the one lemming keep going until he comes to the end
of the highest netting section that is closest to the vertical and diagonal
wall (it's the one that blocks your way to the exit), and then make him build
once to reach the top.  Once he gets to the horizontal surface at the top, have
him mine.  Then let him walk a little and have him mine again.  Now let him
walk and fall down to the lower level.  Make him mine on the horizontal surface
so that he will fall and then walk into the exit.  Then release all of his
lemming friends.

This is simple.  Just make the first lemming out build at the edge of the
gaps and have the second one build behind the first one to keep him busy.  They

up a ladder.  Make him bash, and when he is about one third of the way through,

athletes will make it to the exit.

Block in all lemmings but one.  Have the free lemming build over the two
traps.  Let him continue until he reaches the water.  Have him build over that

trap and they will all reach the exit.
