"It's not that bad... Really"

I must have been 5 years old when I got this game. It was my first GB game, and having been a huge Mickey fan, I was more than pleased to unwrap my christmas present and see Mickey on the box cover. I pushed it into my huge, heavy, battery-drainer, gray, green-screened GameBoy, and I started to play, only to end up being hooked to it for ages.

Graphics: 10/10
Honnestly, this was one of the first GB games out, and it looks pretty solid. The backgrounds are full and well detailed, and everything is clearly visible. The animations and movements are fluid and you never have a hard time telling what's going on. In my opinion, this looks better than Donkey Kong Land, which came out I think 3 or 4 years later. Very good for such an old game.

Story: 10/10
I really can't complain. I'm sure most people who played this game back in the day were kids, just like me. At 5 years old, the idea of chasing big bad Pete across so many treacherous lands in order to retrieve a stolen present was fun. Also, I liked to see how Goofy, Minnie and Mickey interacted throughout the game. Basically, it was enough to please a 5 year old Mickey fan.

Sound: 6/10
Repetitiveness... sadly, the music got quite tedious and repetitive at times. It loops very shortly, and there are only a select few tracks in the game. Also, sometimes it sounded somewhat... scratchy and ear-irritating. But the mood set by the music was good. It's happy-go-lucky music that fits the mood well enough.
The sound effects are nothing short of you typical GB sounds with bleeps, bloops and blooooooooooops. Good enough.

Gameplay: 5/10
Now it is clearly evident that this game was aimed for kids. Be it with the music, the story, or simply, the happy, cheery mood set by the game. The gameplay was very fun and addictive. It's typical side-scroller with Mickey (or Minnie) walking through levels from left to right, grabbing boxes, throwing at ennemies, and jumping over obstacles. Yes, it's very simple. However, the game got so HARD at times. I especially recall one level, where you must climb to the top of a tower by jumping on blocks and windows. Seriously, you are SURE to die in that level. Did Capcom have to put kids through such difficult levels? Or did they forget that they were developping a game for kids? And the last boss is so fast that by the end of the fight, you'll be feeling dizzy.
However, the levels are all very unique, and that is one thing that will keep you going back to those seemingly-impossible levels. You will want to clear them to see what's next.
And the fact that they added Minnie as a playable character was good. While the only difference is the bow and the polka-dot dress, with no changes in control or gameplay, young girls will be happy to see the female mouse as a playable character.

Overall: 7/10
Mickey's Dangerous Chase is a fun, old game, and is especially good for kids. It's too bad it never got any attention to speak of. It's simple, cute, and happy. The only reason why I give it a 7 instead of a 9 is because of the insane level of difficulty.

Wow... writing this brings back joyful memories... Well, I'm off to play the game for the first time in years!!!
