Riddick Bowe Boxing
Review by zoradude
"There should be a review for this game."
Introduction
There are no reviews for this game at the time I am typing this. Even if it did come out over a decade ago it deserves at least one review not so people will know to buy it or not, but so people would know what its like seeing as you may never find it in a store. I found my copy at a yard sale for two dollars. I don't know what I was thinking at the time but I never learned to not buy crappy games even if I had bought Tony Hawk Pro Skater before this. Some day I might realize why my younger self bought these but as of today I don't know. So with that opening aside onto the review.
Graphics - 7/10
I have to say for a Gameboy game this had some pretty nice graphics. Unlike many titles out at the time humans did not look very realistic. I was surprised when I popped in the game and started playing with characters that actually looked like humans.
While these things are good that is it for the game. There is little to no variety to the boxers as the only thing that is different is the skin tone and hair from time to time. There is also nothing else in the game other than the fighters and the part of the ring. It is really boring and repetitive and made my eyes numb after a while.
Gameplay - 2/10
This game fails to deliver fun. I don't know what else to say other than this. You play as a boxer and fight other boxers in a weird way for a boxing game. It is a side view of the two boxers and you can move back and forward. Other then that you just punch each other until one wins. The controls however are confusing and have stopped me from ever winning a single match, maybe I just suck I don't know. To top this off there is little you can do in the actual game. You can make a character and do a career mode that is incredibly hard or you can do a normal fight. These serve as close to the same thing however so it is hard to actually separate them into different categories.
Sound - 0/10
The sound... It kills me to listen to this game. It is the same thing over and over again. The punches are all the same, the music is all the same. If you actually have this game and had the sound on for more than three minutes I would have to question your sanity... Not much other to say then how horrible it is... There is nothing at all pleasing about the sound.
Conclusion
I don't know anything about boxing but maybe Riddick Bowe was a big name when this game came out. If he was then it would make sense to slap his name on a not so fun boxing game and sell it to kids for 30 bucks a pop. With less then fun gameplay and sound it really makes for a less then fun game. That is my entire review, it may not sound like a lot here, but really that is it. The game was very small and was not really fun, I can never figure out why I bought it.
