Review by Lord Byron

""The portable affordable and just plain engaging Star Trek TNG sim""

In my review for Star Trek 25th, I mentioned "the phenomenal Star Trek : The Next Generation cart", or words to that effect. So, here's my rave review.

It is clear that Absolute Entertainment put some serious thought into their Star Trek game. As opposed to another side scroller with the Star Trek license, they did what they could to create a true Star Trek sim on the Iron Man of video game platforms (thank you Game Informer). Anyhoo, I'll tell you about it. You are (duh) on the Enterprise in a first person perspective on the bridge. You have to chart courses to get to planets, beam up colonists who run around like chickens with their heads cut off, and eventually fight the Borg. The only beef I have with this cart is the beaming situations; whether trying to get the stinkin' colonists off the planet, or getting some intruders off the Enterprise;are exercises in frustration. Also, to my dismay, you can't run around the ship or beam down to planets. You simply give the orders and they are carried out.

But there are god-only-knows-how-many action/adventure Game Boy carts out there. If you ever wanted to truly take the Enterprise to battle Romulans, Ferengi, or the Borg, this is your game. If you're looking more for a run-thru-the-halls-of-the-Enterprise-and-blow-the-brains-out-of-anyone-who-dared-to-come-on-your-ship-with-a-big-a**-phaser-rifle, then keep waiting.
