I. Introduction

Hello and welcome to my Tale Spin Walkthrough and FAQ.
Baloo is once again fighting pirates and flying his Sea Duck.

    A. About This Guide

This will be (at least almost) a complete Tale Spin walkthrough.

    B. What I Want (And Don't Want)

Here is what I want: Corrections of things I have wrong, and things I am
missing. And PLEASE have something with Tale Spin FAQ in the subject or
else I can miss it. And PLEASE, if you have something new to tell me, look
in the FAQ at Gamefaqs first to see if itīs there, since thatīs the place
the latest guides will ALWAYS be. I have had problems with updating earlier
Walkthroughs on other sites, so ALWAYS LOOK IF GAMEFAQS HAVE ANY NEWER
    VERSION!

What I don't want: Questions about things that already are in this guide,
    spam or viruses.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VI. Wildcat's hangar

Between every level, you will get to Wildcatīs hangar. This is the shop in this
game, and you can upgrade your Sea Duck with your hard earned cash.

Engine parts: $180 000 Continue menu: $40 000
Body parts: $260 000 Parts for super rapid shot: $200 000
Mini-Sea Duck: $60 000 Parts for rapid shot: $50 000

Engine parts: Engine booster. Lets you move around faster.
Continue menu: Iīll give you one more continue!
Body parts: Increase sea duck durability by one point.
Parts for super rapid shot: Letér rip! You can fire as fast as you want!
But only 4 shots on screen.
Mini-Sea Duck: Youīve got one more reserve plane! An extra life.
Parts for rapid shot: Fire away and fire fast! Only 2 shots on screen.

The mini-Sea Duck and the continue are the only things you can buy many of, but
their price will double.
And once you have got Super rapid shot, you canīt buy rapid shot.
The sad part is that you canīt buy once of everything in this game...
In the Nes version, that had more levels, you could get everything and even
some extra lifes and continues, but since they have stripped down on the levels
you can only get one of each except one extralife and continue.
But since this is an easy game, I would say that you shall go for the body part
first, then the Super rapid shot and the engine last. But if you have problem
with the game, maybe you shall buy the engine earlier, so you can easily avoid
some of the attacks by the enemies.
Updated: Alright, if you get the perfect score-bonus, you get more money, but
since itīs hard to get it, itīs still hard to buy everything.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VII. Walkthrough

A: Level 1:

 Wake up Baloo!
Weīve got lots of work today. Iīve lined up five assignments already, so get
out of your hammock and shake a leg! And by the way, Baloo, Don Karnage and
the pirates are intercepting cargo planes, so do me a favor and be careful.

 Here is your first assignment:
fly over the sea and you should find your destination -- but watch out for
Don Karnage -- he may be waiting for you. If you happen to find more cargo,
pick it up and deliver it.

Just follow the screen and shoot down the enemy planes.
You will get to a waterfall, and the screen will scroll down. Watch out for
the bubble machines (they need two hits).
When the screen starts to scroll right, watch out for the flying submarines.
Mostly you can stay in the lower left corner and just shoot to survive.
When you fly above the boat with canons, watch out for a hole in the deck.
When you see it, fly down into it, turn around and shoot. You will get access
 to the bonus level.
Continue right and you will soon meet the boss.

*****************
*Boss: Submarine*
*****************

It has two attacks. In the first it rise a little bit, and shoots many shots
on screen. These are easy to avoid.
In the second attack, it raises more, and sends up two guided missiles.
Just let them lock and fly over/under them.

The easiest way to finish it is to stay in the lower left corner and just
shoot on it. When it does the first attack, fly up a little, then return down
and continue to shoot. When it does the second attack, the missiles will lock
on you directly, so itīs just to fly up a little.
When he comes to close to you, fly over it, turn around and repeat it, this
 time from the right side.

B: Level 2:

The next delivery is beyond the skyscrapers. Take a shortcut through the
baseball stadium. Once past the stadium, you will be flying through some
skyscrapers under construction, so be careful of falling objects.

Just go right and watch out for ball throwers and planes that drop balls.
You will soon see helicopters that drop flying dynamite. and these can be
hard to avoid if this is the first time playing.
Soon you will come to the construction site, and it will scroll up.
Zigzag up and be careful not to be hit by dropping things.
When you are up, shoot in the top left corner, and you will see the bonus
 level.
Continue right, watch out for the enemies and donīt be crushed between the
buildings and the scroll. Soon you will see canons and the boss.

****************************
*Boss: Construction vehicle*
****************************

This can be the hardest boss in the game if you donīt know how to do things.
It has two attacks. The first is bouncing shots.
The second is a wrecking ball. This will try to smash you from above. Fly
right or left when itīs going down to avoid this. It will use both of the
 attacks at the same time.
The only place you can hit this boss is the small cockpit. Try to find the
right height to attack, and fly forward and backward to avoid the wrecking
 ball and the bouncing shots.
If you dies all the time and canīt do this, try to take out the wrecking ball
first. Shoot at it, and when itīs to close, fly under it, turn around, and
attack from behind. Once itīs destroyed, shoot diagonally down near the
pulley above the cockpit. You canīt get hit from the bouncing balls. This will
take some longer then the first strategy, but is easier for new players.

C: Level 3:

 Youīre headed to the jungle.
Take a shortcut through the cave. The cave is narrow so fly carefully and
watch out for Don Karnage and his gang. Try not to upset the natives in the
 jungle.

Dogs throwing bones at you and machines that follow a trail on the wall will
try to make it hard for you. Soon the screen will scroll up, and you need to
watch out for snakes. Shoot their heads to make them disappear for a moment.
And all up to the left, what do we have there if not another bonus level.
Continue right, and you will see enemies that try to catapult themselves on
you, and others that throws spears at you. And stonefigures that shoots things
that follows a strange pattern. When the road is split up by an upper and an
lower part, each guarded by one of these stonefigures, take the upper part and
shoot everywhere. Congratulation, another Bonus level.
Continue and you are soon at the boss.

************************
*Boss: Crocodile statue*
************************

This is a big crocodile statue with a big emerald.
It has two attacks. The first one is shooting 3 homing fires from it eyes.
If you donīt shoot these down they will kill you fast.
The second is an ordinary enemy running on the ground and throwing a spear at
 you.
Just shoot the emerald, shoot those fires and watch out for the spear, and you
 will soon be victorious.

D: Level 4:

Next delivery can be reached only by flying through clouds.
 Looks like another dangerous job.

Just follow the level. Watch out for the enemies in balloons that throw
things at you. They need two hits to die. Soon you will discover bombs in
parachutes, that drops from above and flying torpedoes that comes from below.
After a while you will scroll up some, and then right again. DO NOT get caught
between the scroll and the mountains, the mountains are not a background.
The second mountain has some cloud on the right side. turn around, fly below
 it and shoot. Bonus level.
Continue to your right, and you will get attacked by many bombs and torpedoes.
Soon you will meet the boss.

***************************
*Boss: Mad Dog & Dumptruck*
***************************

This time you will meet Don Karnageīs best (!?) pilots, that likes to hide in
 the clouds.
They have two attacks. In the first one, they come from both sides, trying to
hit you with three bullets each. One will get from the upper clouds and the
second will get from the lower clouds.
In the second attack, they will get from the clouds on the same side, combine
their planes and shoot an exploding shell that will split into four shots.
You can only attack them when they have combined their planes.
To make this fight easy, just fly to the lower (or higher) part of the screen
and stay in the middle. If they do their first attack, one will stay directly
and shoot. Just fly up (or down) to avoid it and the second attack. You must
eventually move a little to your right or left, but you will soon discover how
easy it is to avoid the attack.
If they are ready to do a combine attack, turn your plane to the same side as
the enemy, fly down and a little away from them, and shoot at them. You will
hit 1-2 times, and the exploding bullet will miss you.

Sure, you can stay in the middle and avoid the bullets and get 2-4 hits every
time they do the second attack, but itīs harder to avoid the bullets this way.

E: Level 5:

Last delivery of the day, flyboy. Give your plane lots of gas -- the mountain
 districtīs full of traps!
 Be careful!

 The last level!
Watch out for pirate planes and eagles that throw spears at you.
You will soon come to a mountain, and watch out for skiers that jumps from
the mountain. The screen will scroll up some, and hidden planes will come from
the clouds to drop stones at you. Then right again to the mountain.
This will repeat two more times. After the third time, shoot on the upper left
corner to go to the bonus level.
Continue right, and donīt get stuck between the mountains and the scroll.
 And so, itīs boss time.

********************
*Boss: Iron Vulture*
********************

This IS one of the easiest bosses in the game...
Stay on the left side of the screen, and shoot on the only thing that moves,
the propellers. Bombs will drop from above, and torpedoes will be launched
from below and above, but keep firing. The only time you shall move is if you
see a torpedo that comes from above. It will lock on you above your fire
range, so you must move to hit it. Move down some instead and let it pass
above you, and then return and fire at those propellers. After some time you
will only have one left, and thatīs the big one in the back of the ship.
Move down some, and fire. Soon it will be destroyed, and you have finished
 the game.
 Congratulation!

 Shere Khan:
Curses! That fool Don Karnage blew it again!
But Iīll acquire that company if itīs the last thing I do!

 Baloo to Kit:
Todayīs problems must have been Shere Khanīs doing.

 Kit:
He must be furious at you, Baloo.

 Baloo:
When will he learn not to go against me in the air? Iīm the best
 pilot in the sky.

 THE END

(Press Start to see your score and money left)

F: Bonus Level:

You are Kit on the bonus levels, flying around on his metal thing smashing
balloons and earning points. The screen is scrolling to fast for you to catch
every balloon, so take only the ones on the higher routes. Donīt get stuck
between walls and the scroll. You will not loose any lifes if you get stuck
but the last balloon in the higher right corner is an extra life, so donīt
 miss that one.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VIII. Tips & tricks

*Shoot everywhere. Not only will you get fruits and more points, sometimes
you will find hidden moneybags, extra lifes, hearts or entries to bonus
levels. It exist almost always some hidden hearts near every boss, the try
to find them if you are low on hearts.

*Master the turnaround command. Not only will it save you if you are going to
be crushed between a wall and the scroll, you can also turn back and get some
  missed things.

*Train. This is an easy game, much easier then the Nes version, but it can be
hard sometimes for first time players. So keep playing if you die, and you
  will soon finish this game.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IX. Items

You get points for everything you pick up, so try to get everything you can
 find.

 Cherry: 100 Points
 Grapes: 200 Points
 Bananas: 500 Points
 Strawberry: 1000 Points

 Extra Life: 10000 Points

 Cargo: 1000 $
 Moneybag: 3000 $

 Perfect Score: 100000 $

To get the perfect score, you need to do this:

1: Donīt loose any lifes on that level.
2: Find every cargo and moneybags on that level.
 3: Find the bonus level.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
X. FAQ

Q01: I canīt get a perfect score, help me!!!!

A: You have missed some moneybags/cargo/bonus level. Try again, and donīt
forget to shoot everywhere on the level.

Q02: Why did you do this FAQ at all? How many have you done earlier?

A: I got my hands on a Gameboy and a lot of games really cheap. Tale Spin was
one of those games. After finished the game, I went to gamefaqs to see if
the message board still was alive (it was dead), and discovered that it did
not exist any FAQīs about this game. So then I wrote this one in less then
   24h.
This is my second released FAQ. The first one was Mario Kart Double Dash to
Gamecube. After that I started on a Metal Slug 5-FAQ, but I got lazy and
never finished it. Since itīs 60-70% finished, maybe I will finish it some
   day.

Q03: What is the difference between this and the Nes version?

A: There are many differences. The first one is that the Nes version has
color. And 3 more levels. And you will not even see Don Karnage in this
version (in the Nes version you could meet him in the first level, and he
was the boss before Iron Vulture). I think they also took out some of the
bonus levels, but Iīm not 100% sure on this.
And the resolution on the Gameboy screen is lower, which makes it lesser
room to fly around in when you try to avoid the enemy. But itīs not harder
thank to the lower resolution, unlike the Darkwing Duck version...
And probably something else I have forgotten.
Updated: After playing some more of the GB version of Darkwing Duck I
discovered that I was wrong. That game is an excellent port of the Nes
version. All levels are there (alright, they are all shorter then the Nes
one but they are still there, unlike in the Tale Spin port), and one boss
is harder in the GB version (not impossible but harder then in the Nes
version, and since I want to jump as in the Nes version, I get hit).

Q04: How many different Tale Spin-games does it exist?

A: First we have the Nes version in which he flies a SD (Super Deformed) Sea
Duck. And the Gameboy clone that is almost the same.
Then we have an action version on Turbo Grafx 16/Pc Engine, another action
on Segas Game Gear and one on Segas Genesis/Megadrive.

Q05: You have spelled favor wrong, itīs called favour!

A: In British English, itīs called favour. In American English, itīs called
favor. And Capcom was too lazy to change that when they released the game
   in Europe.

Q06: Your FAQ sucks, you donīt even have that or that in it!!!!

A: Well if you know something Iīm missing, Iīm really happy if you write me
and tell whatīs missing instead of sending mails like this. Or make your
   own FAQ instead of complain.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
XI. Text dump

Since I felt for it, I will include all the text in this game. the <> tag tells
us who is saying what. And if the same text are in the game in multiple places
(Wildcatīs part) I will only list it the first time.
And I will have it the same way itīs displayed on the Gameboy screen, so this
will be long ;)

XII. Gameshark codes

Since the demands of these are high, I will include the 3 known gameshark-codes
that do exist (even if I donīt really believe in infinite time, since there is
no time in the game…).

Infinite Energy: 0110ADC1
Infinite Time: 0109BAC1
Infinite Lives: 0105ACC1

These are made by an unknown author.
