"A decent port crippled by bad controls and Game.Com's limits"

When I saw screens of this game I was impressed. It looked good. I had heard about its controls but bought it anyway. I think I won it off of Ebay for about 10 bucks. Anyway, if it's one thing that can be learned it's that looks can be deceiving.

----------
-Graphics- 8.0
----------

This is second strongest point in the game. Enviroments are true to the PS1 original. At times it is scaled down for the Game.com's sake but mostly it's the same. I don't know if they didn't care, didn't have room, or were just plain lazy but Claire isn't in the game. Not much to do w/ graphics other than the fact that you're stuck with Leon the whole way. The character sprite is somewhat detailed, as are enemies but animation frames are pretty much nonexistent.

-------
-Story- 9
-------

If I hadn't played the PS1 version then I wouldn't know what the hell was going on. It takes the approach that early NES games did. It assumes you know the story or expects you to read the manual to get your grips. Basing my score on the PS1 version I gave it a 9.

----------
-Gameplay- 1.0 If not lower...
----------

This is where it gets ugly. I mean bold faced UGLY. The controls are flat out bad and take sometimes seconds to respond. Movement is so limited on literally every map it feels like you're on a tiny little grid. Battles are horrendous. Once a zombie bites you it's impossible to shake it off. Boss battles are extremely frustrating as well. Terrible terrible terrible. The only plus is that you get to read all of the documents from RE2 right off the bat.

-------
-Sound- 8.5
-------

When it comes to sound the Game.com is weird. It does voices really well but in terms of music it leaves a bit to be desired. As you might expect all the moans groans and everything in between in terms of sound effects are intact. Even the ''Resident Evil 2'' line is there at the start up of the game. Nicely done. My favorite aspect of the game.

--------------
-Lasting life- 1.0
--------------

This one probably won't last you a day. It is unpleasant to play and if you really want to experience the best of it just download some clips or audio samples.

------------------
-Closing comments-
------------------

Unresponsive controls and bad gameplay make this one bad puppy. I'd advise you to stay away unless you are a hardcore RE fan. If you are then knock yourself out, it isn't much worse than Survivor.
