"Nintendo's intergalactic bounty hunter Samus Aran returns in 3d, and in full glory!!!"
Everyones favorite action femme Samus Aran returns in her fourth action title to Nintendo's next gen console. Super Metroid, the game on the Super Nintendo was a game that soon became a legend around gamers and was arguably one of the best games ever conceived. Metroid Prime takes a different style of gaming we thought a great series will never go, but in a good way. Samus is back and your in for one heck of a joy ride!
Gameplay 10/10: The game is different in one obvious aspect. It's in 3d! And its camera set up is a first person shooter style type. The game isn't really a FPS but First Person Adventure. You do tons of exploring, fighting bosses and getting upgrades to power up Samus even more. The classic weapons are brought back and gives Metroid fans that great nostalgia feel to it. The Wave Beam, The Freeze beam, Samus' space suits and scan visors, morphing ball, grappling beam all return. The game doesn't play that much different from its previous installments. But it still has that feel to make the game a title to own for Metroid fans. And the jump from 2d to 3d makes a huge impact on how you feel while you play the game.
+Still has that Metroid feel
+All those classic weapons give extreme nostalgia
There's a con?
Graphics 10/10: To call this a good looking game is definitely an understatement. The game is so beautiful it will make you cry. The wonderful effects, crisp textures, lush colors, and the extreme detail added to Samus' visors are astounding. Just looking at the water gently dripping off of Samus' visor will awe you. The only thinks that's bad about the graphics is when you're playing the game you never see Samus. You see through her eyes. But all in all. The games gorgeous, the best looking GCN game thus far. HDTV owners you have nothing to fear. The game is progressive scan compatible. Although you should consult your GCN manual before operating on Progressive scan.
+Everything's just perfect looking
+ Supports Progressive Scan
-Not really a con considering how the game plays but during gameplay you don't see Samus' full body.
The sound is really nothing powerful or special. you'll hear that small little tune you've heard in Super Metroid when you get maps and items. The game being in Dolby surround pro logic 2 gives it a big plus.
+Supports Dolby Digital
-Nothing powerful or moving
Longevity and replay value 9/10:
The games fairly long. 30 at least for the average gamer. less if you know a lot about Metroid. But like any Metroid game, there plenty of reasons to play the game again. Like trying to get 100% completion, Beat the game making some manual challenges. . But only die hard fans will probably want to go through the game again just for 100% completion. And there are some secrets to unlock but I won't spoil them for you.
Buy/rent: As always. if you're a fan you owe it to yourself to get this game. But to a newbie to the Metroid series, try a rent.
Conclusion: Metroid Prime delivers from what it was expected to be. It's gorgeous, fun, and adds tons of that nostalgia feel to it. It's definitely a game any Metroid fan will want. But if the jump from 2d to 3d bothers you, you might want to ask yourself if it's the right game for you. The game will become an instant timeless classic from the masterminds of Nintendo and its new second party Retro Studios. Hold on tight kids because Samus Aran, Nintendos butt kicking femme us Nintendo fans have missed very much, is back and she's on a new console. We've missed you Samus, Thank goodness we know your still here!
