"Not as good as Brawl, but worthy for the action."
Super Smash Bros. Melee is the sequel to the sleeper hit Smash Bros on N64. Super Smash Bros Melee gives you more action than you could expect in a fighting game, While Melee is not as great as Brawl, it is the best gamecube fighting game ever, and worth buying even if you have Brawl. Unlike Brawl, Melee gets sort of old quickly if you're not playing with friends, the action-packed fights won't entertain you much as they entertain you in Brawl, Melee can get a bit repetitive, but as it is known, Melee is a competitive fighter and Brawl is a casual fighting game. Graphically, the game is good, the game is good for a first-year gamecube title, the characters are bigger than in Brawl, one thing I like in Melee over Brawl; In Brawl, the characters were quite small. The soundtrack is good, not bad, not great, but settles the ambient for a good fighting match, though I found most of the tunes childish.
The game has 14 characters, the most famous Nintendo characters are here, Mario, Fox, Zelda, Link, Samus, Donkey Kong etc. All character are diverse and though some of the hidden characters being clones of the unlocked characters, it is interesting to play as them. In the gameplay department, you have free control over the characters, they are not limited to facing each other like in other fighting games. You have the ability to play against up to 3 other characters, that makes the fights much more action-packed, but I prefer 1vs1. There's so much action in 4-player matches that can make anyone dizzy. The control scheme is the same as previous Smash Bros, there are no special moves, every character has the same button segment which for each character does different attacks (though similar in nature), for example, all characters have up+a, back-b, There is no kick button, the kicks are random to the attack button, but seeing how the gamecube controller has 2 jump buttons, the game could really have a kick button. However, the game is plagued by repetitive stages and playing alone gets old quicker than in Brawl. the game was really made for multiplayer action, which is the great reason you should buy this game, to have great action packed fun. I just wish the game could get rid of those moving stages like the Ice Climbers' stage.
