How do I get animals to move out without visiting another town?

I know it can be done because it's happened before, but how? Do I just avoid speaking to them and it will eventually happen?

I suppose being mean to them makes the most sense. How long would it take though?

Be Mean To Them,Throw Trash Everywhere,Send Garbage Or Pitfalls In Letters,Hit Them With The Net Multiple Times,Push Them For A Small Distance,Refuse To Do Errands,Plant A Pitfall By Their House,And Don't Pull Weeds For A Good Amount Of Time.And Other Things I Believe But I Am Not Sure.
