The Simpsons: Road Rage
Review by Funky Bob
"Simpsons Fans Rejoice!"
The Simpsons are at it again in their best game ever! (Although that really isn't a very big accomplishment) Any of you who like the Simpsons or the Crazy Taxi series shouldn't even bother reading the review, just go buy the game and save yourself some time. So let's go ahead and start.
This game plays almost exactly like Crazy Taxi and that isn't a bad thing. If you haven't played Crazy Taxi it goes like this: You have two minutes to go pick up and deliver as may people as you can two specific destinations while you're going at full throttle and avoiding traffic. To do well you have to know the city very well and you can't take much time to look at the map. To help you memorize the city they let you do sunday drive mode where you don't have a time limit and you can do things at your own pace. In the normal game mode you only have two minutes to start but as you deliver more people you can gain time. The hard part is that the time you have to deliver the person decreases as you deliver more people and it gets harder to gain time. (just in case you didn't get that, you gain time when you deliver people quickly and you don't gain much time if you do it slowly.) The quicker you deliver the person the more money you get. The goal is to get as much money as you can before time runs out. You can unlock more characters and levels as you collect more money. (The money from all your runs is added together in one grand total and to unlock evrything you must get $1,000,000 that takes a while.) There are over 20 characters and all of them plays completely differently. To get good with all of them takes time and practice. there are only 6 levels but each of them are absolutely MASSIVE! so don't worry about that. There are ten missions where you have set objectives and they are hard to complete. They'll keep you entertained for a while. Lastly there is a great multiplayer. There is only one customer and it is a race between two people to pick it up and deliver it. After all this you still have three skill levels to choose from on the normal arcade mode.
They don't make the actual plot behind the game very clear but it goes like this: Monty Burns (Owner of the local nuclear power plant) has bought the transit system and put nuclear powered engines in them which are harmful and dangerous to make himself some money. Now the Simpsons and the other residnets of Springfield are trying to raise money to buy it back. It's strange but it works. A game like this doesn't really need a great plot anyway.
OK, the graphics are just how to say? obsolete. They're not terrible though and they're very smooth. The game never studders and has a very good framerate. The main thing is that it really looks like the Simpsons, no detail. It's more of a computer animated cartoon look. Don't let this hinder you from buying the game though, after you start playing the game you'll hardly notice.
The sound in this is surprisingly good compared to the graphics. It's all very clear and loud. The music is very good and fits the game well. The best quality is the voices. All the characters are done with the same voices as the ones on the show. Each character has dozens of things to say and most of which are very funny.
It takes a very long time to complete everything there is to do as it is but once you do, that's only the beginning of the fun. It's always fun to try to beat your best high score and the two player mode never gets old. I think that replay was one of the main intentions they had for this game and they delivered.
It's a great game and if you like anything you've heard above, don't hesitate to BUY IT!!!!!
