"The best horror game you will ever play without a doubt!"
In 2005 Capcom released resident evil 4. This game soon became a hit on the Nintendo Game cube. To start out you are Leon S. Kennedy, a U.S. agent sent to investigate the disappearance of the president's daughter. Leon is sent to a rural area in Europe. Things turn to the worst when Leon arrives, he is faced with unimaginable horrors and must find a way to rescue the President's daughter and find out what is behind the terror.
The story is pretty good as far as a none rpg game goes. You are a U.S. agent sent to locate and rescue the Presidents missing daughter. You find yourself left for dead in a rural farm area in Europe. All of the villagers are crazy and out to get you. In the first half hour or so in the game you meet up with Luis Sera, you don't find out much about him until the end of the game but he shows up every now and then to help you out. You eventually find the Presidents daughter (Ashley Graham), then you are to escape from the hell you have been sent to. Surely enough your rescue helicopter gets shot down by one of the villagers and you have to find an alternative way to escape. All in all the story is pretty good a lot of cut scenes and you always know what's going on.
This is were the game shines! a lot of people complain about the controls because they used to first person shooters, but this style of game play makes the game a lot more intense. The view is a behind the back camera perspective & hit zone aiming system. the R button is to aim with your gun, and all guns have a small laser pointer on it to help aim. the L button is to pull out your knife. The A button is the action/command button. The B button is to reload your weapon. There is also a nifty quick turn command that lets Leon do a quick 180 to check behind. No you can't run and shoot in this game witch adds to the intenseness of the game, it makes you stand still and aim like you would in real life. The game has a variety of weapons to chose from, shotguns, smgs, pistols, rifles etc. The inventory is different then the older resident evils, you can move stuff around to make other things fit, takes awhile to get used to. If an enemy gets to close for comfort there are a few commands that let you free yourself from their grasp. For example if a enemy gets to close to you and grabs you, you can spin the control stick and Leon kicks him away or elbows him in the face. While watching the cut scenes if you decide to get a drink or you think this is a good time to do something else don't be surprised if you come back and find yourself dead. Most of the cut scenes require you to press a button to avoid death or injury. Pretty much the game play is almost flawless and perfect for this game.
For a Game cube game this game has better graphics then some of the games out for the newer platforms. Everything in the game is so well detailed. The graphics make you feel like you are actually in the game watching this happen. All of the houses, rooms, scenery in general is so well put together its hard to make it any better then it is. All the cut scenes seem like you are watching a very well put together movie. This game deserves a perfect score for the graphics department!
The thing that makes this game so scary is the music. The sound sets the mood for any situation you are faced with in this game. The music you hear when you fight an enemy really gets the heart going, and when you are walking through that dark room or that endless hallway really sets the mood. Even when you enter a safe room the music makes you feel like you are truly safe and that nothing can get you. All the sound effects of the guns going off and the noises of the enemy close by gets the adrenaline flowing. You cant find better music then this for a survival/horror game enough said.
Replay Value 10/10
I would say that there is still plenty to do even when you beat the game the first time. After you complete the game once you get a fun mini game called mercenaries. You get to chose from five playable characters, your objective is to kill as many enemies as you can in a set amount of time. There are four stages to chose from and each one has different enemies in it. There is only a small amount of ammo you can find, and to get more time you need to find it. You can also unlock four weapons that you can use in your next play through. There is also a pro difficulty you can unlock, and a small scenario you can play to unlock another weapon. So even after you beat the game there is still much to do and unlock.
Rent or Buy?
If you are interested in playing this game I would definitely suggest buying it. If you are a resident evil fan you should buy this game you wont be disappointed.
Final score 9/10 Story development could of been a little bit better but other then that the games great!
