"Prepare to enter the Mortal Kombat"
The Mortal Kombat series has been a long and infamous one, indeed. It started out small, but has evolved to the next generation consoles. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is sure a stepping stone for a sequel in this series.
Gameplay 8/10: MK:DA provides a solid foundation for any fighting game. The game can be very fun to play, yet first you must learn the keys. This can take a while, as you must keep bashing the keys to perform some combos you regret wasting all that time for. Another downside of the gameplay is the difficulty. It is so incredibly difficult to complete certain tasks at first, even in Novice mode. You can slowly master the controls as time goes on, but if you're not one that enjoys combos, this game in not for you. Also, a new twist in this game is in arcade mode. Now, after several fights, there are mini games playable; there are: ''Test your might,'' where you must bash all the buttons as fast as you can, and, ''Test your sight,'' where you simply follow a symbol underneath a cup.
Story 10/10: Deadly Alliance's story is what has really amazed me. It starts off as the evil Quan-Chi escapes the netherealm, and discovers an unbeatable army, but he needs souls to awaken this army. Because of this, he seeks the evil sorcerer, Shang Tsung. Shang Tsung agrees to help Quan Chi steal the souls of fighters they kill, as Shang Tsung also gains power with each soul he obtains. They create an alliance, the deadly alliance.
Graphics/Sound 9/10: Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance surely delivers when it comes to graphics and sound. The graphics of this game have improved very much since Mortal Kombat 4. Now, you can see many more details on the fighters, such as muscles, and there are also much more detailed and interactive backgrounds. The only thing I dislike in this category is the fatalities. The fatalities basically look tacky for many of the characters in the game; they could have been better planned out to look better. Deadly Alliance basically keeps the old school sounds of Mortal Kombat during gameplay; the painful yells, the victory yells, etc. There is also astounding voice narration during movies.
Play Time/Replayability 10/10: This game ultimately has perfect play time and replayability. There are hundreds of krypts to open for which you need to earn kurrency by winning fights against a friend with his/her own file, playing Konquest Mode, or Arcade Mode. It could take you months to open all these krypts, as it can take you hours just to get enough koins to open one of these. Even after you have unlocked all the prizes of the krypts, there is still more replayability, as it is a great fighter for when a friend is visiting, or when you just feel destructive!
I recommend that if you're a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan, buy this game. But, if you're not one to play using combos, rent it first, and if you like it, buy it.
