"The best racing game I've ever played!"
This is one of the few games that actually lives up to the hype. It is one the first truly hard racing games I have ever played. It is fun as hover 5 inches off the ground and shoot across insane tracks at incredible speeds. It also offers a great multi-player that offers hours of entertainment. The atmosphere around the tracks are beautiful and the music adds to the mood. It will keep you playing for hours on end.
This is a game that will give master gamers a run for their money. Between Grand Prix and Story mode, you have about 10 hours right there. That's on the easier levels. Sometimes it is unbearably difficult, though. It makes you want hurt things at times. But once you are into it, you'll keep coming back for more.
Grand Prix: 10/10
The grand Prix is back and better than ever, with some of the largest most challenging courses yet. There are 4 different cups; Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, and Diamond (Diamond is not available at first). Each have 4 skill levels; Novice, Standard, Expert, and Master (Master also not available at first). It doesn't seem that hard at first, but as you progress to Master, it gets really hard. With 30 racers flying around a massive track, Grand Prix is sure to be exciting.
The story mode is new to the F-Zero series. You get to be Captain Falcon and take control of the Blue Falcon to save the world... by racing. Which seems a little hard to believe, but you'll be distracted by the wonderfully done cinema scenes. The scenes are short, sweat, and get to the point and you can skip over them if you want to. The story mode is a great addition that breaks away from the same old circuit racing, but if you like that stuff, there is still the grand prix.
The story is all around weak, but it's understandable because it's a racing game. It's hard to make a story that makes every problem solved by driving a hovercraft. They gave it their best shot.
The graphics are wonderful! It's too bad your flying past the scenery at 2000 km/h. The only time you get to see it well, the little preview before the race or when you hit the scenery after flying off the course. The frame transition is also very smooth and there are no slowdowns. Everything looks so real!
The game offers the same reliable F-Zero controls while adding attacks. No one will be disappointed in the controls. While going at lightning fast speeds, you are able to control it precisely. You can easily handle the tight turns and 29 other racers with flawlessness of the controls. The game is still unimaginably hard, even with easy controls.
The controls are easy to pick up and easy to master. It is flawless.
The story mode seams longer than it actually is. With most levels you'll have to try repetitively to get it. Which can be annoying at times, but once you beat it there is that feeling of joy flows through you and back out when you find out you don't have enough tickets to buy the next chapter. Tickets are given to you when you complete something. Tickets are used to buy custom parts for your original machine, buy ghosts, buy new racers, and buy new chapters in story. Some of the length is due to having to get tickets to advance in story mode.
It lasts a long time for a racing game. Normally doing the same thing over and over again would get bland, but it doesn't. The fact that the insane speed is always fun and you actually get rewards often makes you want to keep playing again and again.
The multi-player is fun, but it gets a little old after playing only four people. I wish you could add more computers, like say... 26. At least there is a 4-player multi-player... it's better than nothing. There also isn't any slowdowns.
The music is just great. It makes every level worth playing that much more (especially Big Blue). The sound is all around OK, but sometimes the constant high pitched steam noise that your machine makes once in a while get awfully annoying. Some of the music is quite hilarious. There are many songs with lyrics that make you want to shoot yourself.
Overall rating: 10/10
It is just so fun.
Buy or Rent?
I suggest to buy this game as soon as possible, especially racing fans. It is a top notch game for anyone, for that matter. Renting would never come close to the super mega ultra hyper awesomeness of this incredible game. If you rented, you would not only, not finish story mode but you wouldn't come close to discovering the many hidden aspects of this game.
THE END. BUY IT NOW!
