A New with Version 3.0

It's been a while. It might be another long time after this but
anyway here is a new update to my guide! Don't be shocked. I
hope this made it better then it already was. I have several
reasons to hope so and they're the changes I made in this release.

I worked hard on correcting the grammar and making the
instructions more understandable.

I added a lot of information to various sections (especially the
new sections).

I also added three new sections changing the entire numbering that
this guide had. The new sections are Replay Zone (so you could
understand things that are different when you replay the game),
History (a history of previous and future Sonic games and there
plot summaries), and a section entitled Differences (that tells
you what has changed from the Dreamcast version of this game).

I made it so that sections devoted to one character start with the
word CHARACTER.

The 130 Emblem Reward section was renamed SECRET CHARACTER: Metal
Sonic.

The Chao section was not expanded upon by much this time around.
It's going to be the center-piece of my next update. I promise.
The version before this was 2.1.

1.0 Getting Started
////////////////////////

Well let me welcome you to the first FAQ/Walkthrough that I am
writing on this large of a scale all alone. I wrote one for
Pokémon Crystal (work in progress actually ;) ) and as you can see
I'm writing one for Sonic Adventure DX.

This guide currently serves the purpose of helping you complete
the game in a timely and convenient manner. This guide will skip
most of the basics since the instruction manual cover those. This
is to bring you an in-depth look of what you should be doing to
help you when you're stuck and such.

Alright lets begin.

Oh yeah! Don't forget you can feel free to e-mail me at
faqmike@yahoo.com!

One more thing and then we begin, I promise. I recommend that you
use Internet Explorer to open this file (it keeps you from making
a silly mistake like highlighting and deleting it and it looks
nice and clean), but what you use is up to you. However, if you
are using a word processor to view this, and yes it's
possible(click on file and then hit save). You are permitted to
do this (in fact encouraged as it saves bandwidth for websites)
but you can't distribute it (go to 16.0 for more information on
that). Use a Courier New 10 point font to preserve the original
format and any possible ASCI drawing I have in here.

And now we begin!

********************
    BASIC CONTROLS
********************

Individual character controls are located in their sections.

WALK AND RUN - Control Stick
To walk, press the control stick lightly in the direction you wish
to walk. Continue pressing the control stick in the same
direction to run. To reduce speed quickly, press in a different
direction.

JUMP - A Button
Hold the A button longer to jump higher. The length of a jump
depends on the character too.

PANNING THE CAMERA - L/R Buttons
Use the L/R Buttons to pan the camera in a full 360 degree
direction when in Free Camera mode (this option is disable in Auto
Camera).
NOTE: In some situations, such as when your character is near a
wall or in an enclosed area, panning may not be possible.

CARRYING ITEMS - B or X Button
To pick up items such as bombs, Chao eggs or relics, stand in
front of the item and press the B or X Button.
NOTE: Actions that are common to all characters can still occur
while holding an item, actions listed as a characters special
action cannot be preformed while carrying an item.

SHAKING ITEMS - B or X Button and Control Stick
Keep holding the B or X button and twirl the control stick or
shake an item (Chao consider this cuddling and like it).

THROWING ITEMS - B or X Button while moving
If you have an item you will throw it (Chao do not like this at
all).

SETTING ITEMS DOWN - B or X Button while stationary
This places the item right in front of you, provided you're
stationary and not moving.

-------------------\
2.0 Differences
-------------------/

If you played this game on the Dreamcast, you might want to know
what has changed since then. This section here sums up the
crucial differences.

--- THE PRO CUBE ---

GRAPHICS - This game looks way better on the Gamecube then it did
on the Dreamcast. This is especially true with the characters and
cinematic sequences in this game.

SOUND - Some people say it sounds better but I'm not a big sound
person.

MISSIONS - The missions have been added. Yes all 60 of them.

GAME GEAR GAMES - The games that you're rewarded at certain points
in the progress of the games were not available on the Dreamcast
version.

METAL SONIC - He was not available in the Dreamcast version, in
fact if you get all the emblems you received nothing but bragging
rights.

CHAO - The Chao system is way better in this version. Just check
out the Chao Section of this guide to see how.

CINEMA SKIPS - Press start and skip a cinema, this is great!

--- THE PRO DREAMCAST ---

It's hard to believe that the Dreamcast version might have
something going for it, well it does.

INTERNET - The official website for Sonic Adventure 1 is not
accessible with the Gamecube version. That means the Christmas
Tree in Station Square, Tremble Park, Y2K Rings, Alternate Twinkle
Park course and the opening day event are not available any where
in this game. It's only one negative but it does make happy to
own both versions (which you should only do if you're hard core
and can stand this game for years).
Note: The Twinkle Circuit tracks have been unlocked by using
Action Replay, maybe the other events will be too.

NIGHT TIME - When you play E-102 Gamma's game after beating the
story mode you wind up in the night time. I always find things
are cooler looking at night. It's a personnal taste, but hey,
can't at least one character have it at night now?

--- The Neutral ---

EGG VIPER - The suicide move no longer hits a piece on the edge,
making the boss a lot easier. This depends on your tastes.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
3.0 CHARACTER: Sonic
/////////////////////////

Sonic is the only character available in the start but that will
change. His main aspects are speed but don't worry about that
unlike the Genesis Sonic games there are no time limits.

*********************
    CONTROLS: SONIC
*********************

SPIN ATTACK - B Button
Position Sonic near an enemy and jump so that as he lands, he
strikes the enemy with a furious spin attack in mid-jump (not very
useful).

HOMING ATTACK - A Button in Mid-Jump
Use this attack to have Sonic automatically zero in and strike a
nearby enemy, item capsule or spring. If no enemies are within
range, use this move to have Sonic preform a "Jump Dash." The
longer you press A the further a "Jump Dash" will go.

SPIN DASH - B or X Button
At any point when Sonic is on the ground, press and hold the B or
X Button to start Sonic spinning in place. When you release the
button he will dash off in a burst of supersonic speed. Use the
control stick to aim and steer a Spin Dash.

HOLD - B or X Button (REQUIRES LIGHT SPEED SHOES UPGRADE)
When you are charging a Spin Dash, Sonic begins colelcting enery.
When he is fully charged he can preform one of the next two
actions.
NOTE: Sonic charges faster with the CHAOS RING UPGRADE.

LIGHT SPEED ATTACK - Release (REQUIRES THE ANCIENT LIGHT UPGRADE)
Release a charge near a field of enemies to have Sonic use an
immpossible to control barrage of homing attacks.

LIGHT SPEED DASH - Release (REQUIRES LIGHT SPEED SHOES UPGRADE)
Release a charge near a row of rings. Sonic will now magically
move through these rings. This allows him to dash over bottomless
pits.

**************
    THE GAME
**************

The game begins with Sonic fighting a menacing new foe, Chaos 0.

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 0

Chaos is pretty easy currently, grab rings and dodge his moves.
After 2 hits he jumps onto a streetlight and releases a stretch
arm attack on you. Run around to avoid and wait until he returns
to ground level to attack again.

After defeating Chaos 0, a cinema happens and soon you are in the
first level, Emerald Coast.

STAGE 1: EMERALD COAST

This is a pretty simple level. The main concerns should be to
take your time and make sure you don't fall of the platform.
There are no real threats to your safety here. Listen to the HINT
ORBS for instructions on what to do. The badnicks here will throw
bombs at you or try to ram into you, but they have no actual
defense against a well placed homing attack. The part with the
whale is simple if you simply keep pressing forward.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS TAILS
ADVENTURE FIELD: GO TO TAIL'S WORKSHOP

So you rescued Tails! Now you have to go to his workshop, so its
off to the Mystic Ruins. Leave the hotel and go to the train
station. Take a train. In the Mystic Ruins leave the area of the
train station and head towards the big hill. Take the stairs up
to meet up with Tails.

BOSS FIGHT: EGG HORNET

Eggman and his trusty hovercraft will do battle here. When
Eggman's Egg Hornet is flying around you cannot damage it. You
must wait until it drills to the ground. At this point it is
temporarily stuck and a simple jump will get a good 1/3rd of his
health out. Just do this 3 times and you should win.

ADVENTURE FIELD: OPEN UP WINDY VALLEY

As you can see a stone has appeared outside of the front door of
Tails' Workshop. Pick it up and bring it to the rightful place.
This is located in a cave near the edge of the pit, with the
waterfall. Place the stone (key) in the slot. The wind should
move up and you should be able to play Windy Valley.

STAGE 2: WINDY VALLEY

This level is simple and straightforward. All you need to do is
progress carefully. Unless you have become experienced try to
take the main route. Things get tricky and are generally
unrewarding. When you by those wind drifts press forward or you
will fall off. Soon you will wind up with a tornado heading
towards you. This is OK. You need to be sucked by the tornado.
Now you're inside the tornado. All you need to do is slowly
travel in an upward direction. Remember to keep jumping on the
pads. You should be out of it no time. The next area is a
winding maze. Simply breeze right past it (hardly any badnicks)
to get to the goal. Remember to keep pressing forward in the wind
drifts or you will fall off. Lastly remember to keep your speed
in loops.

ADVENTURE FIELD: LIGHT SPEED SHOES

Return to Station Square. Head to the side of the station with
the book shop, rather than the hotel. Go to the second area.
Fall through the manhole and progress to the area where you
receive the light speed shoes. Head back to the hotel.

OPTIONAL: CHAOS RING

I highly advise that at the moment, you go and receive this item,
it will be of great assistance to you.

In the hotel take the stairs up and see those 2 switches. One
opens the door on the other side, and the other creates a line of
rings, charge up a light speed dash, while keeping the rings up.
Open the door and release the dash. You should be inside the
other room. Obtain the Chaos Ring.

ADVENTURE FIELD: CASINO AREA

So go down to the Casino Area now, it is located to the left of
the hotel receptionist (not the elevators those are for the Chao
Garden and Knuckles's game). To open the casino area you will
need to press the yellow switch on its top. To do so press the
switch that generates rings and light dash up!

STAGE 3: CASINOPOLIS

In here the goal is to store at least 400 rings in the storage
room and obtain the Chaos Emerald. There are different methods
you can use to obtain the emerald.

Night's Pinball (Cards and Pinball): On a pinball field you try
and obtain a hand of 5 cards, the values of which you obtain rings
for. There is a second board which has loads of cards on it and a
few secret paths that take you to places in the Nights: Into
Dreams game (Sega Saturn only). The values of the cards kind of
like poker. You are graded based on how many cards you have (1
pair, 2 pair, 3 of a kind etc...), the better it is the more you
will probably obtain.

Slots and Pinball: Play the slots, if you obtain something good
you can't obtain anything for a while. Good would be when 3
things line up, or go diagonally. Beware the Eggman, it sucks out
100 rings or so (but not your life).

The gutter: Unless you obtain over 100 rings on the board (from a
combined 3 balls) you will wind up in the gutter. The gutter has
loads of rings for you to obtain but a few traps to try and suck
them from you. It's straightforward. In the wind rooms generally
the most rings can be obtained from the highest route but those
are pretty difficult to get to. When you leave the gutter you end
up in the shower room.

Storage Room: The idea here is that you place your rings in and
the machine stores them in this room. The more rings the higher
you can reach. You need 400 rings to get to the ledge and finish
this level.

ADVENTURE FIELD: GET TO ICE CAP

As you saw in the cinema Cream flew off from the alleyway by
Casinopolis, go and obtain the Ice Stone. With this you can enter
Casinopolis. A quick way to the train station (your going to the
Mystic Ruins) is to continue heading straight from the alleyway
and board the train (make sure your holding the Ice Stone).

Now you're in Mystic ruins, there will be clip shown in which a
bunch of rocks fall and form a cave. Go into the cave, while
holding the Ice Key. Go through the wind drift and to the door of
ice. Place the key in the right hole. Now go past the door, past
the lake and jump onto the ladder.

STAGE 4: ICE CAP

Ice Cap is a simple level. In the first area your goal is simply
progress forward. In the area with the hill side, just take the
spring up the ledge. Soon you will end up in an a new area. This
area is basically a cave. Progress forward. On the icicles your
goal is to jump when your back is facing them. Once you take the
jumping portion a giant icicle falls. Walk across and into the
bridge. Next up is snow boarding! In the beginning avoid the
avalanche of snow and then just keep going forward till the end of
the level.

ADVENTURE FIELD: TO THE LAKE

Head towards the lake in the Mystic Ruins and you should meet up
with a familiar face. Knuckles!

CHARACTER BATTLE: KNUCKLES

This is an easy battle, all you need to do is spin dash into him 3
times, he can intercept homing attacks. After this a new cinema
occurs and a battle begins

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 4

In this battle Chaos resembles a giant fish. You should try and
jump from lily pad to lily pad because staying in the water too
long can be lethal. When Chaos comes out of the water, that's
your chance to attack. Homing Attack him four times to do him in.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS KNUCKLES
ADVENTURE FIELD: BACK TO TAILS' WORKSHOP

Simply go to Tails's Workshop again.

SUB LEVEL: SKY CHASE ACT 1

You and Tails are flying on your little plane. A trick is to hold
onto B to auto-target and get a massive amount of points! But
right now you have to simply survive to the end of the level.

ADVENTURE FIELD: AMY ROSE

Go to the Casino Area and meet up with Amy. Next go to the
Twinkle Park area. And then go inside Twinkle Park (not circuit).

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS AMY
STAGE 5: TWINKLE PARK

In the beginning, you have to knock off a driver off the carts to
obtain the cart. I suggest you homing attack a few of them so you
don't have to worry about slow beginnings. Next start pressing A
to accelerate and try and keep your rings. This part is rather
simple. Soon a roller coaster will bring you to the next area.
Over here you simply need to continue going, strike down pins with
a Sonic Ball! After this you end up in a tricky part with lots of
platforms, falling off some ensures death while others will send
you back down :< Take it slow and you shouldn't have much trouble.

ADVENTURE FIELD: SPEED HIGHWAY

After beating Twinkle Park with little explanation you have to go
to Speed Highway. To get there you need to pick up the employee
card on the grass in middle of the street outside of the train
station and go to building next to Twinkle Park (lucky Sonic,
always finds what he needs). Then take an elevator and go
onwards.

STAGE 6: SPEED HIGHWAY

In the beginning portion of this level, simply keep going, if you
lose speed you might fall off. Take caution however as falling
off can kill Sonic. Just keep going. The next part your running
down a building. Avoid the helicopters and make it to the lobby.
From there go onwards. The final part is a little city. Just go
looking for the fountain and the capsule at the end with it.

ADVENTURE FIELD: AMY IS CAPTURED

The robot stalking Amy has caught her. As Sonic you need to save
her. Go to the area with Ice Cap but keep going forward until you
reach the monkey in a cage. Go a bit forward to find an item.
This is the Light Speed Attack (works like the Light Speed Dash)
use it to defeat the monkey.

STAGE 7: RED MOUNTAIN

The beginning area is confusing but straightforward (it takes
experience to get past it). Simply keep progressing. The goal is
to follow the path. Remember to take the pulleys. The next area
brings you inside a cave. This area has more lava but again is
simply a case of following the correct path. The end shouldn't be
too far away.

SUB LEVEL: SKY CHASE ACT 2

Yeah its time to go back on the airplane! Keep shooting and
staying alive. The end has you attacking the cannon. Attack when
the cannon is open but dodge the blast (takes a nasty bite out of
your health).

ADVENTURE FIELD: SKY DECK ENTRANCE

Simply go onward to the entrance for Sky Deck (not hard to get
there).

STAGE 8: SKY DECK

The first area blasts you out of a cannon but keeps going onward.
Just stick to the path. The end of this area brings you to a
little maze. The goal is to get to highest area and reach the
cannon. If you destroy it with a rocket you go to the next area.
Over here you simply need to progress (avoiding the enemies of
course) there is a lot rocket fire and the winds pick up times.
Soon you'll make it to plane lift off. Go fast as all hell to
reach the other side. IF you do it right a giant cannon should be
spinning around. You need to hit the blaster (there are 4 rockets
to better intercept it with). The next area brings you to a new
part because of the ships change in directions constantly you need
to get to the right. This will soon become a wall and you will be
holding on to the gates. Progress upwards and then through the
top path. Stroll along the path until a switch comes by, hit it
and ship will normalize position. This makes nabbing the capsule
easier.

CHARACTER BATTLE: E-102 GAMMA

Gamma's easy, just whack him 3 times with a homing attack!
Shouldn't be long till he is defeated.

ADVENTURE FIELD: CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THE EGG CARRIER

Go forward towards the part you can't reach (with the giant blue
ring) and change the shape. Jumping through the door does this.
Light dashing upwards. Hopping on the chair and hitting the
switch. The vessel changes shape and you can reach the blue
circle platform. On this you will see Big, Eggman and Chaos.

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 6

This isn't all that hard. Simply wait until Eggman drops one of
his bombs. Hit it with a homing attack and throw it into Chaos
mouth. Charge up a light speed attack a good distance away and
unleash it on a frozen Chaos to do double damage.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS BIG
STAGE 9: LOST WORLD

Whatever your goal here is unknown, just beat it. Head towards it
and get in. The level is straightforward but tricky. Portions
have you running fast to avoid fireballs. The next area will have
you hopping on a snake and pressing switches to open doors and
change the water level. Open switches before flooding them :).
Then head through the area to the next tricky part, the mirrors.
Have the mirrors reflect the light to light your way. This makes
it easier to see. The next portion has an Indiana Jones ball
chase, you could carefully let the ball role and escape it :) or
you could run fast to the end. The next area brings you to a
small room and then a big room. Over here, turn right and hop on
a switch until the wall pieces light up. Walk up them. Carefully
stand next to the dropping spike area. Hop on it and jump onto
this ledge. Activate the switch and light dash across. Head
forward until you reach the center of the pyramid.

FLASHBACK: Emerald Shrine

Head to the front of the Emerald Shrine.

ADVENTURE FIELD: INTO THE FINAL EGG!

You'll see Eggman's new base. Enter it with care. Then hop in
and go to the area with 6 light up switches. You want to turn all
of them on. This opens the door for the final level.

STAGE 10: FINAL EGG

The first area is straightforward. The next portion to look out
for are some strange conveyer belts with spikes. Try and stick to
the top level and progress. It gets straightforward again. There
will be a large room, try and stick to the route ahead (avoid the
goodies). After long you should back in the large room. This
time go forward again. Just keep going. In the areas where Sonic
is falling down try and stick to mid right. Just keep going (fans
will boost you in the air). Keep going. The next part is simple.
Keep going forward! Soon you should be in the end with a simple
light dash. If the level isn't beaten for some reason head to the
center of it (don't jump) and walk around till it is.

BOSS FIGHT: EGG VIPER

This guy is hard. He enjoys sending blasts at you, which you must
avoid. First hit is a simple homing attack (he's close enough).
Second and third hit he sends out the Viper's tail. Homing attack
up all of them (don't light speed attack). The last three have
you jumping on his spike circles and homing attacking him as you
return. Beware his last 2 hits he smashes the platforms placing a
time limit. When he's all beaten head to a piece on the edge and
stay still. His kamikaze move should miss!

You just finished Sonic's story!

**************
    THE GAME
**************

This begins with Sonic, having rescued you and you need to head to
your workshop, but wait a moment, lets get the Jet Anklet :)

OPTIONAL: JET ANKLET

Enter the sewers (between Twinkle Park and the Speed Highway
Building). Go to the end where the gate is. Fly up through the
hole. An item is over there, the Jet Anklet (this helps a lot).
Now go to the train Station.

ADVENTURE FIELD: WORKSHOP

Take the train to the Mystic Ruins and go to Tail's workshop.
Located in the same place as in Sonic's game.

STAGE 1: WINDY VALLEY

This is the end part of Sonic's levels. All you need to do is
skip the twisting parts by flying past them and landing on the
other side to ensure your victory. Fly when you can. Take those
Speed Boosting Rings whenever you can and be glad the Jet Anklet
Let's you fly longer :).

ADVENTURE FIELD: CASINOPOLIS GO THERE

After getting past Windy Valley its time to head Casinopolis.
Take the train to Station Square. From here go down the stairs
(below the train to the left of the front door. Head past it and
go outside the casino. Open the door by flying up and whacking
the yellow switch. Enter the level.

STAGE 2: CASINOPOLIS

The gutter: This is the only part where Tails goes. The gutter has
loads of rings for you to obtain but a few traps to try and suck
them from you. It's straightforward. In the wind rooms generally
the most rings can be obtained from the highest route but those
are pretty difficult to get to. Getting to them flawlessly will
ensure that you beat Sonic to the end of the level.

Now you're in Mystic ruins, see those rocks that just fell go to
that cave. Go thought the wind drift and to the door of ice.
Place the key in the right hole. Now go past the door, past the
lake and jump onto the ladder.

Mark To Double Check this area.
STAGE 3: ICE CAP

Snow boarding, that's all. Just outboard Sonic. Get to the end
quicker. There is one small shortcut, if you see it take it.
Also try and jump on the ramps because those get you through it
quicker.

ADVENTURE FIELD: TO THE LAKE

Head towards the lake in the Mystic Ruins and you should meet up
with a familiar face. Knuckles!

CHARACTER BATTLE: KNUCKLES

This is an easy battle, all you need to do is Tail Spin him or
jump on him (he can dodge those).

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 4

In this battle Chaos resembles a giant fish. You should try and
jump from lily pad to lily pad because staying in the water too
long can be lethal. When Chaos comes out of the water, that's
your chance to attack. Jump on him four times to do him in.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS KNUCKLES
ADVENTURE FIELD: BACK TO TAILS' WORKSHOP

Simply go to Tails's Workshop again.

SUB LEVEL: SKY CHASE ACT 1

You and Sonic are flying on your little plane. A trick is to hold
onto B to auto-target and get a massive amount of points! But
right now you have to simply survive to the end of the level.

ADVENTURE FIELD: The Jungle

The goal here is to find the cave that leads to Sand Hill. Froggy
has the Chaos Emerald after all! So fly up and knock the switch.
You'll end up opening the door to Sand Hill.

SUB LEVEL: SAND HILL

This is kind of like Ice Cap except here to get score you have to
get past those red things quickly. You get X times 10 points for
each one, X being the number you can see on the upper corner of
the screen. X marks a tally of how many consecutive markers
you've passed. X disappears after about 3 seconds so be quick!
In the end of the level is Froggy!

FLASHBACK: YEAH ONE OF THESE :(

Head to your left and look for the Warrior Feather. This little
upgrade lets you constantly Tail Attack (useful soon).

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS BIG
SUB LEVEL: SKY CHASE ACT 2

Yeah its time to go back on the airplane! Keep shooting and
staying alive. The end has you attacking the cannon. Attack when
the cannon is open but dodge the blast (takes a nasty bite out of
your health).

ADVENTURE FIELD: SKY DECK ENTRANCE

Simply go onward to the entrance for Sky Deck (not hard to get
there).

STAGE 4: SKY DECK

In the beginning you blast out of a cannon but keep going onward.
Just stick to the path. The end of this area brings you to a
little maze. The goal is to get to highest area and reach the
capsule. Flying is key to success here!

CHARACTER BATTLE: E-102 GAMMA

Gamma's easy, just tail spin around and remember to stop to let
the cinema role.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS E-102 GAMMA
YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS AMY

ADVENTURE FIELD: GET TO SPEED HIGHWAY!

You can't let Eggman get to the missile first, can you?

STAGE 5: SPEED HIGHWAY

This is the final level for Tails. Eggman takes a shortcut in the
beginning so why can't we? Follow Eggman to the Lightning Shield.
Now fly up! Up and far, you have to reach the pad in a distance
(needs Jet Anklet). Now after landing go forward and fly to the
next pad. Turn left and go through the speed ring. Just keep
going forward from here on and if you don't die you should have
plenty of time :).

BOSS FIGHT: EGG WALKER

This is Eggman's boss against Tails. To bring him down wait until
he performs his kick attack. Avoid it and whack the legs that are
glowing. Each hits has another leg but if you travel with the
Tail Spin, it's really no problem. When Eggman falls simply whack
him in the tip. Four hits does him in and wins you Tails' game!

5.0 CHARACTER: Knuckles
////////////////////////////

************************
    CONTROLS: KNUCKLES
************************

GLIDING JUMP - Press and hold the A Button in mid-jump
Use the Control stick to maneuver Knuckles as he glides. It is
safe to attack enemies if you head at them fist first. If any
other part of his body is hit he starts falling. You can revive
the glide by pressing the A Button while falling.

CLIMBING - Glide into a wall
Use the control stick to move and A button to jump off the wall.

PUNCH ATTACK - B or X Button
Press the B or X to execute a punch. Execute two more punches in
rapid succession to have Knuckles preform a more rapid, "Dash
Punch."

DIGGING - Press the B or X button and A Button Simulataneously
(REQUIRES THE SHOVEL CLAW UPGRADE).
Position Knuckles on a grassy or dirt covered area and press the
dig button combination. He digs and might uncover something
hidden in the ground.

**************
    THE GAME
**************

ADVENTURE FIELD: GO TO SPEED HIGHWAY

So you begin in Station Square, head to the area in which Sonic
had his fight with Chaos 0 and bust any barriers with your punch.
Continue onward, to go through the door and into Speed Highway

STAGE 1: SPEED HIGHWAY

This is Sonic's last segment (Tails can go here, check out the
tricks section) but Knuckles can take full advantage of it. He
can climb ledges and find some of the many secrets in this level.
He can also punch open containers to reveal some of the possibly
hidden secrets.

ADVENTURE FIELD: TO CASINOPOLIS

Head to Casinopolis, you can take the shortcut from the train
station back stairs or the hotel. Either way climb up the path of
rings and glide into the Yellow switch to get access.

STAGE 2: CASINOPOLIS

This is the beginning of Sonic's area, expanded. Knuckles can go
higher up in his pursuit of Emeralds. He can destroy the Big
Sonic Statue (thanks to a crack in its leg :) ). Some Emeralds
are risky (under the Lions Paw) but this isn't that hard.

ADVENTURE FIELD: THE INCREDIBLY LONG AND DIFFICULT JOURNEY

Knuckles has to go all the way to the hotel! You can spot Sonic
and Tails snoozing outside the Casino. In the hotel a cut scene
occurs.

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 2

Chaos 2 is different from the other forms Chaos. He might bounce
around as a blob, spread out throughout the ground or charge his
tentacle. The only time you have to hit him is after Chaos
unleashes his tentacle.

ADVENTURE FIELD: MYSTIC RUINS AWAIT!

Head to the Mystic Ruins and go to the shack by the cart to the
jungle. Sonic is there.

CHARACTER BATTLE: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG

Sonic is a simple foe. Just hit him 3 times, best chance to hit
is when he's stationary, smack him hard with a punch!

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 4

In this battle Chaos resembles a giant fish. You should try and
jump from lily pad to lily pad because staying in the water too
long can be lethal. When Chaos comes out of the water, that's
your chance to attack. Jump/Glide Into/Punch him four times to do
him in.

ADVENTURE FIELD: SHOVEL CLAWS

Go to the cave where the Chao Garden is, its in the valley formed
by the wall and Tails' workshop. Again you can see Sonic and
Tails (not snoozing this time). Go and obtain the Shovel Claws.
Then dig up the monkey destruction switch. Use it by placing
below the monkey. Pick it up and take it to the Angel Islands
site (the cave near the train station, you need to go up the
wind). Then go to the monkey blocking the Red Mountain entrance
and use it on him.

STAGE 3: RED MOUNTAIN

This stage is the beginning part of Sonic's level. This is a
pretty big level for Knuckles so be ready to take some time.
Because you just got the Shovel Claws expect it to require
digging.

ADVENTURE FIELD: THE TWO STONE STATUES

Go to the area you had the fight with Sonic in and take the cart.
You now need 2 statues. The first is located right by the cliff.
Take this to the pyramid, on the second level (not the ground)
there should be a slot. Place it in. Press START and go to MAP.
Look for a room near the Sand Hill entrance that is in the shape
of a circle. Go there and dig up in the digging area the other
statue. Bring it to the pyramid.

OPTIONAL: MAXIMUM HEAT KNUCKLES ATTACK

When your on the ledge of the Jungle keep gliding and climbing the
wall to the left, you should come across a ledge with an item.
Pick it up now, it has its uses later.

STAGE 4: LOST WORLD

This is the part of Sonic's level after the Boulder chase but you
Cannot go to the area Sonic light dashes too. Emerald shards
might be in basically the usual parts of the level (walls,
digging, enemies, plain sight etc...).

FLASH BACK: TO THE EMERALD SHRINE

Go back to the ancient Emerald Shrine to finish this cut scene. A
cut scene returns you to the Emerald Shrine and you see Gamma.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS E-102 GAMMA
ADVENTURE FIELD: TO THE EGG CARRIER

Go back to the Jungle and go to that city on the edge, find its
entrance and a cut scene will occur.

ADVENTURE FIELD: HEAD TO SKY DECK

Get to the Egg Carrier pool and keep going, the door is open for
Knuckles and Sky Deck is behind the opened door.

STAGE 5: SKY DECK

This is the last part of Sonic's mission. The ship won't tilt on
its own. You have to tilt the switch to change the ship's
direction. When you tilt the ship some doors will be opened (the
ones that are now elevated) and the trolleys might move on the
track revealing a dirt portion you can dig on.

ADVENTURE FIELD: THAT BLUE CIRCLE OF FINAL BATTLEDOM

Go to the Blue Circle on the Egg Carrier (where Sonic battled
Chaos 6). Other than Tails and Sonic all characters have their
final boss fight here so be ready.

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 6
This isn't all that hard. Simply look for the bombs. Hit one
with a punch or jump and throw it into Chaos mouth. Charge up a
Maximum Heat Knuckles Attack (remember I said it had uses) a good
distance away and unleash it on a frozen Chaos to do double
damage. Try to avoid the broken areas of the battlefield, those
make you get injured ;).

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
6.0 CHARACTER: Amy
///////////////////////

*******************
    CONTROLS: AMY
*******************

HAMMER ATTACK - B or X Button
Amy will hit enemies with her PIKO PIKO Hammer. This can be done
to stun Zero for a while.

HAMMER JUMP - B or X Button while running
Amy will be propelled hig into the area.

JUMP ATTACK - B or X Button in Mid-Jump
Amy swings her hammer while jumping.

SPIN HAMMER ATTACK - B OR X Button and the Control Stick (REQUIRES
THE WARRIOR FEATHER UPGRADE)
Press and hold the B Button while rotating the control stick to
preform this attack. You should have Amy stop this before she
becomes dizzy and is unable to walk straight for a little while.

**************
    THE GAME
**************

ADVENTURE FIELD: GO TO TWINKLE PARK

Bring Amy to Twinkle Park where she will meet up with Sonic
again... From there enter the level.

STAGE 1: TWINKLE PARK

This level begins by the big pool, or where Sonic's massive
shortcut takes you. Amy has to flip 3 switches and travel through
the mirror rooms. This is all happening while the robot Zero is
chasing her. There are loads of Spike Balls here so take care
when traveling by this level. In one area some of the floor is
trap doors so be careful!

ADVENTURE FIELD: GO TO THE NEXT ROOM

Amy's game is mainly cinema's so this a short part. Go to the
next room. In it is a board. Play Hedgehog Hammer.

YOU CAN NOW PLAY AS E-102 GAMMA
SUB LEVEL: HEDGEHOG HAMMER

This is a game of whack a mole from the center, the goal is to
beat Eggman's score of 2000 points (don't do it by much you'll
regret it). Eggman lose you 200 points, Sonic gains 100 and Super
Sonic gains 500 points. You get the Warrior Feather by beating
this. After Hot Shelter if you come back here, you can get a
better hammer.

ADVENTURE FIELD: HOT SHELTER

The room next to the area you came out of go there. This is Hot
Shelter.

STAGE 2: HOT SHELTER

A very long level. Cranks will have to be moved. Boxes must go
in the right area. Amy has what Sonic would probably have had,
the entire level. Zero is chasing you throughout the entire time
so be careful. This level is long but actually pretty easy.

ADVENTURE FIELD: FINAL EGG

Go to Mystic Ruins. Go to the Jungle. Go to the area of Eggman's
City. Enter it. Go to the 6 switches. Illuminate all 6 to open
up Final Egg.

STAGE 3: FINAL EGG

This is a shorter version of Sonic's level. Or it so till you
make it to the elevator. Press the switch and I don't suggest
hiding (Zero once found me). Just avoid him till the elevator
comes down and take it. Soon another annoying part comes in where
the path splits into 5, one door (random it changes every time) is
the right one the others are duds. The duds contain a hovering
badnick. Its frustrating to land the dud because they Find the
right one and continue. Soon there is a part with an oil can and
Amy can't jump that high. Either move the oil can or hurry things
up and hammer jump up. The balloon comes shortly after this grab
and be done with it.

FLASHBACK: I THINK ITS HERE...

If memory serves me correct Amy has her flashback here. All it is
getting to Tikal and thanking god for the start button!

ADVENTURE FIELD: TO THE EGG CARRIER

Leave the Jungle and go to the main area. Go to the train station
but go in that little area below it. Take the raft to the Egg
Carrier.

ADVENTURE FIELD: THE PLACE OF FINAL BATTLE-DOM

Go to the blue circle thing-majing and get ready for a final
battle.

BOSS FIGHT: ZERO

Zero needs 3 hits. He can only be hit after touching the electric
fence. To do so hammer him to it. Avoid hammering Zero more than
once because he gets immune temporarily if you do so. After
touching the fence. Hammer him. 3 hits does Zero in and ends
this incredibly long and tedious game of Amy's. LOL...

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
7.0 Big the Cat
////////////////////

*******************
    CONTROLS: BIG
*******************

Big can lift objects that are much heavier then what other
characters can lift (Ice bergs and Cars are good examples).

CASTING - B or X Button
Use this when Big is facing the water to throw his lure. While
holding the B or X Button you will see a target point. This can
be moved with the Control Stick.

LURE ATTACK - B or X Button
Press B or X rapidly to try and hit something that is nearby.

----------FISHING MODE--------------------------------------------

A Button - Reel in quickly
B or X Button - Reel in slowly
Control Stick - Tug the Rod

Rug the rod to entice a fish/frog near the rod. When they bite
press in a downward direction to lure them in.

**************
    THE GAME
**************

OPTIONAL: LURE

Go to the Sewer behind Speed Highway, entrance next to Twinkle
Park. The lure is over there.

ADVENTURE FIELD: GET TO TWINKLE PARK

Near the Hamburger store, there is a car over a manhole. Lift up
the car and go through the sewer. This takes you to Twinkle Park
(which was closed). Now enter Twinkle Park.

STAGE 1: TWINKLE PARK

Whack the enemies here if they worry you but Froggy is located in
the corner nearest the entrance. Simply fish him out, for this
mission.

ADVENTURE FIELD: THE ICE STONE

The Ice Stone is dropped and Cream flies away! Take the Ice Stone
and go to Ice Cap. Ice Cap's entrance is where it has always
been. Be sure to pick up the life belt.

STAGE 2: ICE CAP

See the rock in the beginning, smash it on the weak ice or simply
have Big jump on it. Froggy is located in that hole. If you
explore you'll find another area where you can obtain a LURE
UPGRADE inside of the DINOSAUR SKELETON. To get to take the route
underwater by Froggy.

ADVENTURE FIELD: TO EMERALD COAST

Go to the pool area of the Hotel and enter Emerald Coast.

STAGE 3: EMERALD COAST

Go to the pillar near the beginning. Look nearby and look for
Froggy. He should be there. Fish him out.

THERE IS NO FLASHBACK HERE, I WAS WRONG!!!

ADVENTURE FIELD: EGG CARRIER

On the Egg Carrier you need to open the Hot Shelter door by
jumping on it or you can go to the prison cell and obtain the lure
upgrade (big fugitive that lure...).

STAGE 4: HOT SHELTER

Just go forward until the drainage room. Over there flip the
switch. Froggy will now be released. Look for him and fish him
out. Avoid the other fish, they weigh a lot here and are hard to
catch.

FLASHBACK: GET TO TIKAL

As I have been corrected, the flashback is over here, in order to
complete it you have to walk to Tikal, who is conveniently located
straight ahead of you.

ADVENTURE FIELD: MONORAIL

Take the monorail. Jump on the switch to get outside. Head to
the Blue Ring of final battleness...

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 6

Aim your lure at him and try to connect with Froggy. That's all.
Just whack Froggy with the fishing rod.

FINISHED OR IS IT???

OPTIONAL:
Below Big's Bed is his Super Rod! Just lift up his bed and take
it out.

Also the final lure upgrade is in the jungle. It's in the
circular
area without the digging symbol (not near Sand Hill). Just look
for it on the map.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
8.0 E-102 Gamma
////////////////////

**************************
   CONTROLS: E-102 GAMMA
**************************

LASER GUN - B or X Button
Hold the B or X Button and move the laser line to sight of a
nearby enemy/item. The enemies will be locked-on.

HOMING MISSLE LAUNCH - Release the B or X Button after locking-on.
This should destroy the objects to which you have locked-on.
Bosses take several hits to fall.

ROLLING MODE - Control Stick
When Gamma reaches full speed, he turns his legs to wheels and
rolls around.

HOVERING - Press A in mid-jump (REQUIRES THE JET BOOSTER UPGRADE)
This acts just like Knuckles' glide. You can still lock on to
enemies when you're hovering.

**************
    THE GAME
**************

STAGE 1: FINAL EGG

This is too simple to really describe. It's meant to get to be
familiar with the patterns and stuff...

Incidentally this is the amount of time per combo
1 Enemy 1 Second
2 Enemies 3 Seconds
3 Enemies 6 Seconds
4 Enemies 9 Seconds
5 Enemies 15 Seconds
6 Enemies 30 Seconds
7 enemies 35 seconds
More than 6 30 + 5 more for each enemy after 6.

BOSS FIGHT: E-101 BETA

Beta will fire his laser and I suggest you rapid fire him. Four
hits will take down Beta. Just be careful and avoid his attacks
onto you.

ADVENTURE FIELD: GO TO EMERALD COAST

Go to the hotel pool and blast down those doors.

STAGE 2: EMERALD COAST

Linear. Simply keep going forward. Froggy is in the end of the
level on the patch of green grass surrounded by monkey badnicks.
He is in a green shield like freed animals.

FLASHBACK: NO THERE WILL BE MORE...

Just keep going onward with Tikal, that's all.

ADVENTURE FIELD: GET TO AMY

Go to the door to Hot Shelter. You accidentally go to the wrong
one, go to the right one (the one on the left).

ADVENTURE FIELD: JET PACK

Go get the Jet Pack. Take the stairs up and turn right. Look for
a door, it should be there. Now go onto the elevated platform and
go up.

CHARACTER BATTLE: SONIC

Target onto him 3 times and let the cinema role.

ADVENTURE FIELD: WIND STONE

After a long cinema, E-102 Gamma arrives in the Mystic Ruins
Adventure field, obtain the Wind Stone (front of Tails' Workshop
again) and place it in the usual spot.

STAGE 3: WINDY VALLEY

This is straightforward the pre-tornado part of Sonic's level.
There are few enemies but those caterpillar enemies can be
targeted up to 10 times for 45 extra seconds. E-103 is about as
hard as E-101.

ADVENTURE FIELD: GO TO RED MOUNTAIN

Bring E-102 to the Red Mountain area. You know past those fallen
rocks and into the level itself. Target the monkey to destroy it.

STAGE 4: RED MOUNTAIN

This part takes place in the cave. Again its straight-forward so
you should have no problems in beating it. There are more enemies
here and the lave traps can and probably will get frustrating.
E-104 is about
as hard as E-101.

ADVENTURE FIELD: TO HOT SHELTER

Go back to the main area of the Mystic ruins and go to the room
below the train station. From there go to the Egg Carrier via,
raft. From this raft head inside via the yellow switch and into
the Hot Shelter level.

OPTIONAL: UPGRADE

To upgrade your cannon you can go to the room on the opposite side
as the one where you got your Jet Booster, this lets you get the
Machine Gun. The machine gun improves targeting.

STAGE 5: HOT SHELTER

This level can be split into 3 linear areas. The first is pretty
linear (although it loops up and you can fall down). It ends when
you blast a switch and an arm grabs you up. At this point you are
placed on a train ride (no other Hot Shelter characters go there).
There will be two trains and cautious transferring will get you to
the end. In the end you flip a switch (or blast to stop a train).
At that point the train will begin stopping and you can progress.
The next area for you is a giant fall, there are loads of Kiki,
target onto the whole group while slowing your fall for loads of
time) and some nice items as you fall. When you land there are 8
Kiki. Blast them in one group and you will receive loads of time.
Take the speed boosters and go onward to E-105. E-105 has a
different attack scheme. He is a central cannon. To defeat him
blast away all those little cannons.

ADVENTURE FIELD: FINAL CIRCLE AGAIN!

Head to the blue circle, where you will meet the final boss.
E-101...

BOSS FIGHT: E-101 MK II

E-101 has several attacks. One includes a barrage of missiles.
Another involves him moving at you in ferocious speeds. When he
stops from that there is your best chance to attack him. Soon he
begins his next attack. The camera zooms out and E-101 unleashes
some kind of huge bomb. The less health he has the stronger it
is. After 4 hits E-101 gives in and dies.

That's it or so it would seem...

//////////////////////////////////////
9.0 SECRET CHARACTER: Super Sonic
\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

SUPER SONIC IS OPENED UP ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE BEATEN THE OTHER 6
CHARACTERS STORY MODE! WHICH MEANS EVERYONE ELSE MUST HAVE 100%
CLEARED. SUPER SONIC DOES NOT EVEN SHOW UP AS A PLAYABLE
CHARACTER UNTIL THEN.

OPTIONAL: NEW DETAILS

I suggest that if you enjoyed listening to what people said around
you that you talk to them now, any Adventure Field because this is
the best opportunity. They say new things because this takes
place later than completed Adventure mode for any character.
Usually, they will resolve any dilemmas that they may have had
before this.

ADVENTURE FIELD: THE ATTACK VICTIMS

Head from below the tree to Angel Island. Look around and you
should see Knuckles and Eggman unconscious. Approach them.

FLASH BACK: YES THEY ANNOY THE HECK OUT OF ME TOO...

This one is simple. It goes in 3 different tries but each time
Tikal goes further away. When you have seen it all the game
resumes.

ADVENTURE FIELD: GET TO THE TORNADO

Head of to the main area and take the cart to the Jungle. Brace
yourself for a looooong cinema.

BOSS FIGHT: PERFECT CHAOS
Perfect Chaos is a nice boss. It seems to have a mere 3 HP but it
will respawn once for a total of 6. Against Perfect Chaos you
play as Super Sonic. Super Sonic slowly drains your characters
rings from 50 to 0. If Super Sonic's rings reach 0 he becomes
Sonic who will die upon touching the water. In order to attack
Perfect Chaos, Super Sonic must run into him at high enough speeds
to pop out from Chaos' mouth. At first few obstacle will appear
but as the battle keeps going, Perfect Chaos will throw up more
defenses forcing you to maze out Super Sonic's path so he doesn't
lose speed.

Now you're done with main game but there is really so much more to
do. Chao, Game Gear and the Emblem chase! How about those!

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
10.0 Replay Zone
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>/

So you beat the game and want to know, what now? This section is
here to address those issues.

If you want to experience the story mode again, for the most part
you're out of luck. The only replayable game is that of Super
Sonic. The rest of them, there are no special story modes for you
to try.

The game is in daytime forever now. I know that the Mystic Ruins
Chao garden looks really cool at night but everyone has it in day
this time around (on the Dreamcast Gamma had it at night).

Those issues aside there are things to consider doing at this
point.

TWINKLE CIRCUIT - All characters can go to it. Even from the
Adventure Mode. Knuckles, Tails and E-102 Gamma need to find the
Kart Pass. This is located in a patch of grass next to the
entrance for Sonic (and Tails') Speed Highway. Pick this up and
take it to the kart area. You cannot go to Twinkle Park but you
can use the Karts.
Requirements: Completed Super Sonic's story.

HIDDEN ROUTES - You may have noticed routes that you cannot access
in the regular run through the game. These have probably become
available to you through the use of your new upgrades. I don't
think there is anything jaw-dropping that can happen now but it is
worth noting.

THE EMBLEMS AND MISSIONS! - Well these are pretty obvious, if you
want you can try to get complete your collection of these.

>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
>>>> 11.0 Chao Basics
>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<</

Chao are a form of AI that appear in SADX. There are 3 gardens.
One in each Adventure Field.

STATION SQUARE
One is the hotel lobby, just take the working elevator down to
visit it. This garden is pretty simple, a little walkway with a
fountain on one side and a few palm trees on the other.

MYSTIC RUINS
Another is in the east cave of Mystic Ruins. This one is a small
area of ruins that has a small pond in it (with the deepest
water), the area is near a small cliff.

EGG CARRIER
The last is inside the Egg Carrier when you press EGGMAN with the
switches. This is an abandoned area on a small tropical island.

In each garden are 2 eggs. These eggs have the normal Chao. From
either the GBA Chao gardens or the Black Market (next to the exit
in station square) you can buy special colored eggs. Colors and
their importance will be discussed later.

Every Chao have the following stats Swim, Power, Run, Fly and
Stamina. By giving your Chao, fruits or animals you may raise
these statuses, this may result in bonuses.
SWIM - Until level 10, the Chao is unable to swim in water and
will need your assistance to get out. At higher levels the Chao
will swim much faster and more gracefully. Animals with a yellow
background raise this stat.
RUN - Until level 5, the Chao is unable to walk and will crawl
around. At higher levels the Chao will be dashing around all the
time and possibly difficult to grab. Animals with a green
background raise this stat.
FLY - At higher levels the Chao may be seen flying across the
garden, rather then walking/running. Animals with a purple
background raise this stat.
POWER - No effect on garden behavior, which I have noticed.
Animals with a red background raise this stat.

In the baby stage you may notice how Chao respond to animal giving
and can begin to change colors and grow features. When these Chao
are ready they will form a cocoon and emerge as a new Chao. This
happens within 2 hours of game play but a lot sooner if you take
good care of Chao. When they emerge they always strengthen the
ability to grow in one attribute by one level.

This attribute is called a rank or gene and for every stat Chao
have one. The only way you can find out what the rank of your
Chao is by bringing them into the tiny Chao garden, then to the
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle game and going to the doctor. The ranks
range from A, B, C, D and E are the only ones you can get in the
beginning. Baby Chao tend to have one of each. If an A rank is
boosted it becomes an S rank, which is the highest things can go.

As you may have noticed in every level playing as any character,
you would find animals inside of the robots and you could rescue
these animals. When you bring them to the Chao garden you release
them and can feed them. Every level has its own exclusive set of
animals. I would advise that you go to these levels for getting
animals of color
     Emerald Coast (Sonic) Yellow
     Twinkle Park (Sonic) Green
     Casinopolis (Knuckles) Purple
     Red Mountain (Sonic/Knuckles) Red
When a Chao evolves into a full yellow Chao they begin to resemble
a fish and will have a boost in swim. A Chao that evolves in
green it will resemble Sonic a bit, with a boost in speed. A Chao
evolved in purple will begin to resemble Nights, with a boost of
flying. A Chao evolved in Red will begin to resemble a red
dragon. A Chao raised in all features will resemble a Chao! This
kind receive a stamina boost.
After they evolve once you can feed them new things to make them
change again (a subtle change), feeding them more of the same
animal makes them look more and more like what they should.
Feeding them new things makes them look different but they only
raise one gene per lifetime.

Be sure to feed your Chao. You can either go to the Station
Square Black Market or from one of the tree threes that are in the
gardens. When you feed them fruit it will raise their stamina.
Some of the Black Market fruits have other effects too. Chao who
are hungry will take fallen fruits or pull tantrums. This is not
good, a certain amount of love must be used to make Chao stay with
you forever.

Avoid pressing the B button in the garden because it will result
in needless beatings. These have no benefits other than making
the Chao hate you. Press X or Y and pay close attention to the
commands.

>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
>>>> 11.1 Chao Raising
>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<</

So you want to raise your Chao to evolve nicely. The first trick
to get a quick evolution is to raise them with love and care. As
Chao evolve, they go into a cocoon and come out a bit stronger
and able to grow in a specific stat better. The stat is the one
you worked on, or that it emerges as. All colors are only for
NORMAL eggs, not the ones that you buy!
A Red Thing - Dragon - Power boost
A Pink Thing - Nights - Flying boost
A Green Sonic-like Thing - Sonic - Run boost
A Green Thing with a yellow chin - Fish - Swim boost
A Bigger Chao - Neutral - Stamina boost

Another thing that can happen is they become Heroes or Dark Chao,
unlike in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle characters do not change a
chaos attribute so you should consider feeding them hero or dark
fruit (purchased in the Black Market). About 5 will get them to
look the right color. No matter how much you pet them will have
no effect. Allegiances are permanent after evolution. Just
because it swings one-way doesn't mean it can't be Dark Fish
(boost in swim), a dark Sonic (Shadow, boost in run) etc...

Per lifetime? Yes, Chao will die. This happens when they are 5.
The only way to avoid this by treating them well and having them
reincarnate. When this happens the Chao return to a baby stage
with stats at level 1 (not 0) and 10% of the final ones so they
can become more powerful than any Chao you ever had! They can be
something completely new after reincarnation so don't worry! You
could even make a dark a hero!

If a Chao is in its 3rd lifetime I suggest you consider making it
an immortal Chao. These are typically called Light, Angel and
Devil. In this lifetime feed the Chao one of every animal in SADX
(no need for Battle) and make them aligned to what you want it to
become. Light are neutral and resemble chaos, Angel are heroes
and Devils are devils. These are also called the immortal Chao
because they are immortal.

>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
>>>> 11.2 Chao Racing
>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<</

There are 5 races in Sonic Adventure DX. First you can play
BEGINER. When you beat all the BEGINER races you can play the
JEWEL race. JEWEL races give you an emblem for completing them,
BEGINER do not. The races tell you what stat they challenge but a
good run is essential. If you have a Chao in Sonic Adventure 2:
Battle that can win Diamond 5 use it to win quickly through all
the races.

In expert mode, you might see Chakaron (in Sonic Adventure 2:
Battle's challenge mode) he is a tough cookie sometimes. I've
also seen a group of silver Chao. The opponents get tougher as
your Chao gets stronger but the scale of the change is not
proportional to that of your Chao.

Pearl Race - Strong Chao
This race has your Chao pushing a ball across the field and
running a short distance to the finish line.

Amethyst Race - Flying Chao
If your Chao can fly, they will be able to take a shortcut.
Beware, this shortcut also uses swim, so for a terrible swimmer it
really isn't a shortcut at all.

Sapphire Race - Strong and Swimming Chao
A run around with a cliff and taking part of the pool race. To
fall to the pool a higher fly gets you swimming less by flying
above the water, dropping slowly.

Ruby - Swim Chao
A run to the pool. The fall involves usage of the flying ability,
a higher fly gets you swimming less by flying above the water,
dropping slowly.

Emerald - All around Chao
An overview of the entire area. There are no balls in the
beginning and it basically combines all previous races.

>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
>>>> 11.3 Chao Rankings
>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<</

As I said, every Chao has a hidden stat called a Ranking, if you
want to find out what it is bring it to Sonic Adventure 2: Battles
Chao Doctor and check the chart. The ranks run as follows
E,D,C,B,A and S (E the weakest and S the strongest). These ranks
will determine quite a bit. Every stat (including Stamina) uses
these. The rankings are set at birth and during evolution can
upgrade by one level (E to D, D to C, C to B, B to A and A to S).
A fresh created egg has a mix of its parent's rankings (1/3 chance
it has its mothers ranking in any particular stat, 1/3 that this
ranking is a mix and 1/3 of the fathers) if you bred it or
generally an average of C (with no S ranks, sometimes sticking
near C or sometimes using an A,B,C,D,E in random formation) if it
was purchased in the black market or Gameboy Advance game.
Resetting does NOT change ranks.

Rankings determine how much a stat grows when it increases a
level. A bit of luck plays in too, but any unlucky S rank will
probably be higher then a lucky A rank. They range from a 15
boost to about 30. See the boosts here. It is only one of these
random possibilities

S Rank +27 +28 +29 +30
A Rank +23 +24 +25 +26 +27
B Rank +20 +21 +22 +23 +24
C Rank +17 +18 +19 +20 +21
D Rank +14 +15 +16 +17 +18
E Rank +12 +13 +14 +15

As you can see, ranks make a huge difference!

The only way to increase a rank is through the first evolution,
raise it to be the type you want boosted.

These are sometimes referred to as GRADES in other guides, which
go
deeper into this.

>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
>>>> 11.4 Chao Breeding
>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<</

First off, Chao have no genders! There are none! This means any
2 Chao that get along will mate, unless the Chao are immortal or
babies.

Almost every Chao can mate. When Chao want to mate they have
flowers around them (the Heart fruit induces this). Only babies
and immortal Chao cannot mate. When two Chao mate the child will
be a mix of there parents. The child will have these determined
by its parents.

Ranks/Genes - A random mix of parents, useful for getting All-S
rank Chao.
Shininess - I believe this is dominant
Color - Chao might go 2 toned or a new combination. Sometimes
normal allows for the special highlights (the stripes on Shadow
Chao) in special colored Chao!
Faces - If both parents share a face, odds are the baby will have
this face (not guaranteed)

>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<\
>>>> 11.5 What about Sonic Adventure 2: Battle?
>>>><<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<</

The Chao Gardens are different but compatible if you use Sonic
Advance, Sonic Advance 2 or Sonic Pinball Parties feature of the
TINY CHAO GARDEN or simply upload a Chao into the Gameboy Advance
(this is the most annoying to use because you cannot save your
Chao onto a cartridge and if you send it to Sonic Adventure 2:
Battle or a different Chao file you end up with two, which may be
good or bad depending on the situation)

There are some differences, this game is the more restrictive
version despite coming out a year later.
- No seeds, because there no tools to plant them with.
- All fruits are still available.
- No Chao Kindergarten.
- No Chao Doctor.
- No MOVE feature, replaced by NAME (which lets you name your
Chao), in the GBA machine.
- Some new items.
- Different Animals.
- Eggs obtained at different emblem times (but generally the same
% of total emblems in order to see the eggs).
- Characters do not "convert" Chao, only Hero or Dark fruit can do
this, purchase in the Black Market.
- Less races.
- No Chao Karate.
- The Chao Money trick doesn't work.

* CHARACTER EMBLEMS *
*********************

++++++++++++++++++++++
+ SONIC THE HEDGEHOG +
++++++++++++++++++++++

All B levels have a goal of obtaining 50 rings, and there is
really hardly and advice that can be given to the matter of
protecting one in these levels other than. Try to get
shields, avoid getting hurt and remember its OK to have way more
than 50 rings.

A Emblems, now these get tricky...

EMERALD COAST - 2:00 minutes

The spin dash is your best friend. Don't worry about enemies,
just keep on going! Enemies will come and go. In the second
portion of the level (when it reloads) ensure that you take the
upper route. A major shortcut comes closer to the end. The area
with the Quick Jump platforms is visible and you can jump to it if
you aim cautiously. Take the spring nearby for another short cut.

WINDY VALLEY - 3:00 minutes

Homing attack in the beginning, and spin dash afterward, its
extremely possible and shouldn't provide much challenge. Its one
of the first that I would recommend.

CASINOPOLIS - 5:00 minutes

This is evil. Experience says the best bet is to get about
100-150 rings in
Night Pinball and leave it. Get a gutter there after
about 50. You will need to do this in about 2-2:30 minutes.
Continue onward, past the gutter at incredible speeds and take the
highest paths obtaining almost EVERY icon on the route (in wind
chutes try to take only that row but a complete set). If you do
it right you might be able to do it in about 4:30.

ICE CAP - 4:00 minutes

Just keep moving, take caution but approach with reasonable
speeds. It shouldn't be much of a challenge for you.

TWINKLE PARK - 3:00 minutes

In the beginning get on a cart immediately. The biggest time
saver is during the roller coaster. Start pushing forward. This
way when you are ejected from the roller coaster you can take a
short cut. Walk slowly along the tracks and you should fall onto
a floating platform, carefully jump off of it and resume the
normal level. This should get everything done in 2:30 minutes
skipping huge portions of the level.

SPEED HIGHWAY - 2:30 minutes

You need to keep spin dashing. Take the short cuts, maintain
speed. You need to hurry yourself. This is hard. Just keep
rushing. You should make it to the end with about 2 seconds
remaining. You might want to familiarize the path you take in the
end for this route. Forward up the edge. Left on the street. Up
the bouncer and turn right. Take the fountain and you should do
it.

RED MOUNTAIN - 3:00 minutes

If you dash you should have just enough time. You can skip the
second pulley by carefully falling at the right moment. Practice
will tell you when it is. Take the Light Dash shortcut.

SKY DECK - 5:00 minutes

Just keep on running. There are no real shortcuts except in the
where you can spin dash faster then the ship changes (not needed)
but it is tricky, I'm talking about when those gates are used as
ladders.

LOST WORLD - 4:30 minutes

Just keep running. On the last of the door keys to snake, spin
dash the snake to reach it fast. In the final massive room. turn
right and activate that switch. Keep hopping till you can walk
the wall. Go all the way up and hop on the trap. Then Light
Dash.

FINAL EGG - 4:30 minutes

Just keep running. Make no mistakes. Spin Dashing is vital. Be
ready.

+++++++++
+ TAILS +
+++++++++

B Emblems require little strategy here, so I don't think I need to
post it. Ice Cap is probably the hardest of them.

A Emblems

WINDY VALLEY

Explore a bit, there are loads of shortcuts.

CASINOPOLIS

The upper routes are even more important now. Try and don't get
hit by too many spikes.

ICE CAP

Take the one little shortcut and jump on many slopes. This isn't
really hard.

SKY DECK

Fly across rather than jump on things, it's faster and can get
short cuts. Keep flying and you shouldn't have problems.

SPEED HIGHWAY

Remember, right by the Lightning Ring, keep flying. Fly far
diagonally left of the starting view. You should make that pad.
Fly to the other. Sharp turn to take the speed boost. This
should be sufficient to obtain victory (or the capsule if you take
GOING DOWN, in glitches section :) ).

++++++++++++
+ KNUCKLES +
++++++++++++

B emblems, use the emerald sense and avoid all hint balls.

A emblems, find a nearby Emerald. Restart, immediately get it.
Find the next one, press RESTART, immediately get, find the last
shard of the Master Emerald, then press RESTART, immediately get.
The missions should be no problem with this little trick.

+++++++
+ AMY +
+++++++

B emblems, just obtain 50 rings and keep them. The hardest one is
Twinkle Park. The spike balls in the end really throw everything
out of balance but just keep trying.

A emblems

TWINKLE PARK - 2:00 minutes

Hurry up with the switches, turn right and get them from there.

HOT SHELTER - 6:30 minutes

Avoid mistakes, just keep on rushing yourself and you should do
fine.

FINAL EGG - 2:30 minutes

Again, avoid mistakes, and rush yourself. Stockpile a lot of
lives and try to get the right door within your second try
(restarting until you do). That should do the trick.

+++++++
+ BIG +
+++++++

All missions
B = 1000 gram fish
A = 2000 gram fish

TWINKLE PARK

B Emblem: Look around for a nice big one and catch it.
A Emblem: YOU NEED ALL THE LURES TO GET IT. Look for a big
Robotic fish and keep resetting until you find one.

ICE CAP

B Emblem: Look around for a nice big one and catch it.
A Emblem: Sharks are your best bet. They usually weigh around
2000 so I don't think it should be too difficult to find one.

EMERALD COAST

B Emblem: Look around for a nice big one.
A Emblem: Inside of the secret passageway (to the left in the
beginning underwater), there are some nice sharks. Catch one and
be done with it.

HOT SHELTER

B Emblem: Free the sewage and catch a shark (easiest to find...)
A Emblem: Ignore comments about a Secret Area, it is really in the
level, but there are big enough sharks around Froggy to handle the
goal and why do extra work? The secret area has unique fish, look
for if you want...

+++++++++++++++
+ E-102 GAMMA +
+++++++++++++++

B Emblems - 50 rings, what needs to be said. Use caution and look
for power-ups (Final Egg they are on the ledges near the
beginning, should be sufficient).

A Emblems - Try and target huge drones of things while picking up
your pace. These might be difficult but they're all possible,
just be quick and target well!
FINAL EGG: 3:00 minutes
EMERALD COAST: 2:30 minutes
WINDY VALLEY: 2:30 minutes
RED MOUNTAIN: 2:30 minutes
HOT SHELTER: 2:00 minutes

+++++++++++
+ ENDINGS +
+++++++++++

The tedious task of watching the credits for any character obtains
you 1 emblem. Each character is another emblem.

*********************
* MINI GAME EMBLEMS *
*********************

Throughout the game there are 5 mini-games that give emblems. The
first is for simply beating it. The second is when you go to
trial and select and you obtain the high-score. Hedgehog Hammer
needs to be beaten in Trial both times.

Sky Chase Act 1
8000 points
To beat this try to B target onto everything you see. There is
little room for error. You only get points when you see the
objects blow up yourself.

Sky Chase Act 2
14000 points
Easier but not at all easy. B Target onto the swarms of
everything. You still only get points for on screen objects. You
get about 3000 from the cannon.

Twinkle Circuit
10:00 minutes
The first time take your time and the second should be a breeze.
When you beat Super Sonic's game you can take Gamma, Tails and
Knuckles to Twinkle Circuit via the Cart Pass on a patch of grass
next to the Speed Highway for Sonic and Tails building.

Sand Hill
10000 points
Score big combos. About 30 are needed. The time score should do
the rest for you. This will be hard.

Hedgehog Hammer
2000 points
This shouldn't be hard at all. Just avoid setting the standard
too high the first time, its happened :(.

Ice Cap
7000 points
Like Sand Hill, this is the snowboarding part with those red
things that give score for combos, available for Sonic and Tails
after they beat Ice Cap in their games by trial mode. NO EMBLEMS
FOR ICE CAP IN TRIAL MODE!

*********************
* CHAO RACE EMBLEMS *
*********************

The Chao races can get you a maximum of 5 emblems. One for each
Jewel race. Contrary to popular rumor there is none for
completing the Beginner races. The races will establish which
stat they challenge but generally speed is an important addition
for any good Chao.

Again only the jewel races will get you the emblems that you so
want.

Mission 30

fugitive!"
Completion: Red Mountain, near the end (in the cave), take the
newly appearing badnicks and bop get to the ledge on the top.

Mission 33

inside of it.
"Shoot yourself out of the cannon and get the balloon!"

yellow platform.

Mission 34

Mission 36
Location: Above the entrance to Hot Deck (the only level Sonic
does not go to).
"Fighter aircraft are flying everywhere. Somebody get me out of
here!"
Completion: Bring the man from the beginning of the sky deck where
the wind blows. Right after you destroy the big cannon in the
rig-like structure, to a circle before the fighter planes.

Mission 40

which is in the Mystic Ruins.
"What is hidden in the area that the giant snake is staring at?"

is at its peak (3 switches), charge up a Light Speed Dash, release
it on
the chain of rings that have appeared, stay on the snake to get to
the chain.

Mission 41
Location: On the steps of the ancient ruin where Lost World's
entrance is located.

you fall from the waterfall stay near the center and close to
water to obtain the balloon.

15.0 SECRET CHARACTER: Metal Sonic
\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*

For getting 130 missions, you receive Metal Sonic in trial mode.
He plays in Sonic's levels and mini-games (except Sky Chase but
this does include all bosses) and has the same exact mission
goals. When in trial he has the same missions as Sonic does. In
case you have trouble here is the information again.

***************************
    CONTROLS: METAL SONIC
***************************

SPIN ATTACK - B Button
Position Metal Sonic near an enemy and jump so that as he lands,
he strikes the enemy with a furious spin attack in mid-jump (not
very useful).

HOMING ATTACK - A Button in Mid-Jump
Use this attack to have Metal Sonic automatically zero in and
strike a nearby enemy, item capsule or spring. If no enemies are
within range, use this move to have Metal Sonic preform a "Jump
Dash." The longer you press A the further a "Jump Dash" will go.

SPIN DASH - B or X Button
At any point when Metal Sonic is on the ground, press and hold the
B or X Button to start Metal Sonic spinning in place. When you
release the button he will dash off in a burst of supersonic
speed. Use the control stick to aim and steer a Spin Dash.

HOLD - B or X Button
When you are charging a Spin Dash, Metal Sonic begins colelcting
enery. When he is fully charged he can preform one of the next
two actions.

LIGHT SPEED ATTACK - Release Charge
Release a charge near a field of enemies to have Metal Sonic use
an immpossible to control barrage of homing attacks.

LIGHT SPEED DASH - Release Charge
Release a charge near a row of rings. Metal Sonic will now
magically move through these rings. This allows him to dash over
bottomless pits.

--->ACTION STAGES<---

<---COMPLETE THE MISSION--->

Instead of saving a character or finding an emerald, you pop open
a capsule. That's just for story sake. You don't really want to
know what happens when Metal Sonic and Tails meet, do you?

STAGE 1: EMERALD COAST

This is a pretty simple level. The main concerns should be to
take your time and make sure you don't fall of the platform.
There are no real threats to your safety here. Listen to the HINT
ORBS for instructions on what to do. The badnicks here will throw
bombs at you or try to ram into you, but they have no actual
defense against a well placed homing attack. The part with the
whale is simple if you simply keep pressing forward.

STAGE 2: WINDY VALLEY

This level is simple and straightforward. All you need to do is
progress carefully. Unless you have become experienced try to
take the main route. Things get tricky and are generally
unrewarding. When you by those wind drifts press forward or you
will fall off. Soon you will wind up with a tornado heading
towards you. This is OK. You need to be sucked by the tornado.
Now you're inside the tornado. All you need to do is slowly
travel in a vertical direction. Remember to keep jumping on the
pads. You should be out of it no time. The next area is a
winding maze. Simply breeze right past it (hardly any badnicks)
to get to the goal. Remember to keep pressing forward in the wind
drifts or you will fall off. Also keep your speed in loops.

You need 400 rings to get to the ledge and finish
this level.

STAGE 4: ICE CAP

Ice Cap is a simple level. In the first area your goal is simply
progress forward. In the area with the hill side, just take the
spring up the ledge. Soon you will end up in an a new area. This
area is basically a cave. Progress forward. On the icicles your
goal is to jump when your back is facing them. Once you take the
jumping portion a giant icicle falls. Walk across and into the
bridge. Next up is snow boarding! In the beginning avoid the
avalanche of snow and then just keep going forward till the end of
the level.

Over here you simply need to continue going, strike down pins with
a Metal Sonic Ball! After this you end up in a tricky part with
lots of platforms, falling off some ensures death while others
will send you back down :< Take it slow and you shouldn't have
much trouble.

STAGE 6: SPEED HIGHWAY

In the beginning portion of this level, simply keep going, if you
lose speed you might fall off. Take caution however as falling
off can kill Metal Sonic. Just keep going. The next part your
running down a building. Avoid the helicopters and make it to the
lobby. From there go onwards. The final part is a little city.
Just go looking for the fountain and the capsule at the end with
it.

STAGE 7: RED MOUNTAIN

The beginning area is confusing but straightforward (it takes
experience to get past it). Simply keep progressing. The goal is
to follow the path. Remember to take the pulleys. The next area
brings you inside a cave. This area has more lava but again is
simply a case of following the correct path. The end shouldn't be
too far away.

STAGE 8: SKY DECK

The first area blasts you out of a cannon but keep going onward.
This makes nabbing the capsule
easier.

STAGE 10: FINAL EGG

The first area is straightforward. The next portion to look out
for is some strange conveyer belts with spikes.

<---THE HARDER MISSIONS--->

All B levels have a goal of obtaining 50 rings, and there is
really hardly and advice that can be given to the matter of
protecting one in these levels other than. Try to get shields,
avoid getting hurt and remember its OK to have way more than 50
rings.

Experience says the best bet is to get about
100-150 rings in Night Pinball and leave it. Get a gutter there
after about 50.

There no real shortcuts except in the where
you can spin dash faster then the ship changes (not needed) but it
is tricky, I'm talking about when those gates are used as ladders.

LOST WORLD - 4:30 minutes

Just keep running. On the last of the door keys to snake, spin
dash the snake to reach it fast. In the final massive room. turn
right and activate that switch. Keep hopping till you can walk
the wall. Go all the way up and hop on the trap. Then Light
Dash.

FINAL EGG - 4:30 minutes

Just keep running. Make no mistakes. Spin Dashing is vital. Be
ready.

--->SUB GAMES<---

<---BOSS FIGHT--->

A well placed light dash attack
may actually hit Chaos 0 twice.

BOSS FIGHT: CHAOS 6

This isn't all that hard. Simply wait until Eggman drops one of
his bombs. Hit it with a homing attack and throw it into Chaos
mouth. Charge up a light speed attack a good distance away and
unleash it on a frozen Chaos to do double damage.

<---SAND HILL/ICE CAP--->
Sand Hill
10000 points
Score big combos. About 30 are needed. The time score should do
the rest for you. This will be hard.

Ice Cap
7000 points
Like Sand Hill, this is the snowboarding part, with those red
things to get score from (more for combos).

<---TWINKLE CIRCUIT--->

This is simply the same Twinkle Circuit as for all characters.
You are however not connected to the score of the other
characters, so this character has 10 minutes to beat this in order
to receive the high score.!

--->NOTE<---

Some people may try and claim that this game has 160 emblems, but
they're wrong. They derive this number because Metal Sonic has
his own "emblems" that he receives. You cannot see these emblems
in any sort of tally in this game. Whenever you complete a normal
level as Metal Sonic, this includes the goal you are playing for,
an icon with Metal Sonic's face is placed in the emblem slot.
There are a total of 30 slots in all. These slots are what people
count as the extra 30 emblems, altough as you and I know, they're
not really extra emblems.

--->Chao<---

TAILS CHAO
Requires: Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1 & 2
Gameboy Advance to Gamecube Link Cable
          Gameboy Advance
Instructions: Play Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1, in offline
mode (any difficulty). Complete the first three missions and open
up the Fake in Yellow. Play through the entire Fake in Yellow
quest (be on the look out for Al or Pal Rappy because they
sometimes pop-up in this quest especially). When you find the
scientist, telepipe to Pioneer 2. Then return to Forest 1, with
the telepipe if you wish. There are 3 Rappies that are staring at
a wall. Go to the wall until you can talk to something. A brief
cinema appears with a Chao. The Chao rewards you with the "Tiny
Chao Garden Key." This is a hidden item that will not appear in
your inventory. Return to Pioneer 2. Outside the entrance to the
Hunters Guild should be a machine that resembles a Gameboy
Advance. Go into it and activate it. Then download the Tiny Chao
Garden mini-game (make sure the Gameboy Advance is in the fourth
slot of the Gamecube). When you play this version, you will see
that there is indeed a Chao inside of the garden. The Chao is
named Tails and resembles Tails. Now quickly place it into a 3D
garden!

Note: If you can't understand what I'm discussing here, you
probably don't have Phantasy Star Online: Episode 1 & 2.

Note 2: This only works with the Gamecube version for obvious (I
hope) reasons. Don't tell me you got it working with the X-Box or
Dreamcast editions of Phantasy Star Online.

--->Glitches<---

TAILS IN EMERALD COAST

Everyone has his or her favorite way to do this glitch, this is
mine. The corner of the hotel, that is next to the door and by
the
emerald coast side, try to fly through the balcony above between
its corner. If done right you should get through. Do you see the
slanted area by the wall? Try and land right after it. There
will be a little ledge, this is where you want to land. The game
will look weird now, I promise. Turn around and fly to beach as
close to the gate as possible. Land on the sand and viola!
You're in Emerald Coast. You can't play the second half but this
is good enough.

TAILS IN SONIC'S SPEED HIGHWAY

My shortcut helps. After the speed boost keep going but do you
see that weird bug tube thing? Jump on it. Run and fly off to
the building with the purple sign. Try and fly so you enter right
next to the purple sign. If done right, you will start Going down
and you can make it to the next area! Just try and make it to the
capsule, that's a challenge for you to try!

--->Action Replay Codes<---

THE "LOST" TWINKLE CIRCUIT TRACKS

I've decided to bend my Action replay rule to allow these codes to
be placed in. These tracks are alternatives to the main Twinkle
Circuit Track. To open these tracks enter the following code into
your Action Replay and head off to Twinkle Circuit. Do not place
more than one of these codes at a time, you risk corrupting your
save file.

Track Name: Samba GP
Note: This track was released on the Dreamcast version. When the
Sonic Team game, Samba de Amigo was released in Japan, Sonic Team
decided to celebrate by releasing this as a download event. A
file was saved to your memory card and Twinkle Circuit was
replaced by this particular course.

17.0 Frequently Asked Questions
>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>?>/

Q: Why does someone have 160 emblems?
A: They don't but some people believe they have 160 emblems. They
derive this number because Metal Sonic has his own "emblems" that
he receives. You cannot see these emblems in any sort of tally in
this game. Whenever you complete a normal level as Metal Sonic,
this includes the goal you are playing for, an icon with Metal
Sonic's face is placed in the emblem slot. There are a total of
30 slots in all. These slots are what people count as the other
30 emblems.

Q: Where are the Action Replay Codes?
A: I don't give those out except for special reasons. This is an
FAQ so you can complete the game, get all the emblems and finish
all the missions not so that you can cheat your way through the
game. Also, I don't recommend or even like Action Replay and such
cheating devices, so don't ask me where you can get some codes.
The codes I did give out or for things that Sega has kept secret
and I don't believe are cheating.

Q: What other guides have you done?
A: I've worked on one other guide, a guide for Pokémon Crystal
with CVXFreak.

Q: Do you have a website?
A: Yes I do, it is www.geocities.com/gold_ursarings_lair.

Got a question? E-mail it to me! If I feel I haven't responded
to your question in a satisfactory manner, in the FAQ, I will
possibly update the section and post it here!

18.0 History
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<^>/

---The Other Games------------------------------------------------

This isn't the Version History section, it's a history of previous
Sonic the Hedgehog related game. Some of this information will
need to be corrected. These are as official as I could find,
which unfortunately isn't saying much.

---Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic debuted in the original game Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA
Genesis system in June of 1991.

In this game begins the struggle between Dr. Ivo Robotnik and our
hero, Sonic the Hedgehog. Dr. Robotnik the mad scientist, is
snatching innocent animals and turning them into evil robots!
Only one tough dude can put an end to the demented scientist's
fiendish scheme. It's Sonic, the real cool hedgehog with the
spiked haircut and power sneakers that give him super speed.

This game was also released for the SEGA Game Gear in December of
1991.

---Sonic the Hedgehog 2

"Tails" was introduced in the game Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for
Genesis in November of 1992. This game lets you play either the
Sonic or Tails character, or play with a friend and each player
can be a character. This game also has a split-screen two-player
competition mode.

Miles "Tails" Power, the fox, can't sit still when Sonic's around.
Ever since Miles was a baby fox, he's dreamed of being like Sonic.
He loves to run after Sonic, waving his two tails behind him,
trying to keep up with his hero!

Mostly, Sonic lets him trail along. But sometimes, just to show
off, Sonic explodes in a burst of super speed and leaves him
behind. But Miles doesn't give up. He whirls his tails like a
helicopter rotor and takes off flying until he catches up!

All the animals call Miles by his nickname, "Tails", because of
his two special tails. And one day they saw an astonishing
feat... They were all together in the forest, watching Sonic
perform. Sonic would run, spin and jump in his Super Spin Attack.
Then "Tails" would whirl like a turbo engine and blast off in his
Super Dash Attack. What a showoff!

Suddenly, "Tails" just couldn't help himself. He took a running
start, curled up his tails, and -- whoosh -- he was spinning like
Sonic!

But now something frightening is happening. Sonic's friends are
disappearing. In their place, nasty metal robots are popping up
all over the island. The mad scientist Dr. Robotnik is at it
again!

This time Robotnik's planning a global disaster. He needs workers
to create a doomsday machine that can take over the world. So
he's trapping all the animals, turning them into robots, and
forcing them to build his ultimate weapon, the Death Egg!

Robotnik now rules the factories, refineries and cities! He's
grabbed control of everything -- except the seven Chaos Emeralds.
These magnificent gems are believed to hold exceptional powers.
With them, Robotnik could have the entire world in his grasp. And
he'd never let go!

The Chaos Emeralds are buried somewhere on the island. Only one
tough dude with spiky hair has the speed to find them first!
Sonic must stop the devious scheme of the demented scientist! He
spins like a speedball through space, grabs Power Sneakers and
loops til he's dizzy, twirls over twisting speedways, rockets
through tunnels, and blasts across a bubbling ocean of oil!

This game was also released for the Game Gear in October of 1992.

---Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball

Those who enjoyed the pinball machine play in levels of previous
Sonic games were treated to a full game of pinball play in the
game Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball, released for Genesis in November
of 1993.

The evil scientist Dr. Robotnik has unleashed his most diabolical
plot yet to turn the animals of Planet Mobius into robots. His
monstrous contraption, the Veg-O-Fortress, built on Mt. Mobius, is
already transforming happy creatures into mindless slaves!

Robotnik's fiendish machine draws its power from the mountain
volcano. Fiery lava fuels the lethal Pinball Defense System that
protects the fortress.

Sonic and his pal "Tails" mount an air assault on the fortress,
only to be blasted in mid-flight by Robotnik's cannons. Sonic is
knocked into deep waters near the volcano. But he has friends in
wet places -- and is saved at the last moment!

Sonic sneaks into the Toxic Caves below the fortress. From there,
he infiltrates Robotnik's vast and deadly defenses. In no time at
all, Sonic starts swiping Chaos Emeralds, freeing the animals of
Mobius and dishing out hedgehog justice!

Yo, Robotnik! You're in for a mountain of trouble now. Sonic is
spinning into action!

This game was also released for the Game Gear in August of 1994.

---Sonic the Hedgehog Chaos

Sonic made a special appearance on Game Gear in the game Sonic the
Hedgehog Chaos in November of 1993. This game allows you to play
as either Sonic or "Tails".

Could this be the end of South Island? That evil maniac Dr.
Robotnik has another twisted idea to take over the world! This
time he wants to steal the mystical Chaos Emeralds. The emeralds
are the source of vitality for all living things. But in the
hands of rotten Dr. Robotnik, they could be turned into nuclear
bombs and laser weapons!

The evil doctor has already snatched the Red Chaos Emerald,
causing the other emeralds to lose balance and fly into a parallel
universe. Now South Island is sinking into the ocean. Sonic and
"Tails" will have to use all their super speed and super stunts to
stop Dr. Robotnik and restore harmony to the universe!

"OK, Dr. Robotnik," says Sonic, "You're charged with contempt of
hedgehog. There's no time to lose. Gotta slide, Clyde!"

---Sonic the Hedgehog CD

Also in November of 1993, Sonic appeared in the premier game for
the SEGA CD system. Sonic the Hedgehog CD provided more levels
than any cartridge game, and great CD Audio background music.

"Sonic, where are you going now?"

Sonic the Hedgehog looked over his shoulder at Amy, the young
hedgehog who was racing hot on his heels.

"To Never Lake," he called back.

"Why Never Lake?"

Sonic slowed down a little so he could explain. "Ever heard of
the Little Planet?"

"Isn't that the tiny world that orbits around Mobius?" Amy asked.
"The one with the special stones that alter time and change
everything around them? I heard that the planet's full of places
that are completely ignored by the passage of time!"

"Yeah. On the last month of every year, the Little Planet appears
over Never Lake. It's that time now, and I'm going to check it
out. I bet space travel will be exciting!"

"With all those Time Stones, I bet you'll try to outrun time
itself!" Amy sighed.

Sonic didn't reply. He just smiled, eyes gleaming.

When they arrived at Never Lake, the Little Planet was there as
expected. But something was wrong. Where there should have been
tall trees and bright flowers, there was nothing but dry sand and
jagged rocks. The Little Planet was tethered to a rock with a
huge chain, and its surface was covered with twisted, gleaming
metal.

"What happened?" Amy wondered.

Before Sonic could reply, something whooshed over them. Amy
shrieked as she was snatched up, and she and her captor vanished
in a blue streak of light!

"What the -- AMY!"

It didn't take long for Sonic to realize what had happened. "This
has to be one of Dr. Robotnik's tricks!"

Indeed it was! Upon discovering the location of the Little Planet,
the evil Dr. Robotnik and his robot cronies had immediately set
about converting it to a giant fortress. When Robotnik saw Sonic
approaching, he had dispatched his prize creation, the Metal
Sonic, to grab Amy and lure his archenemy into danger.

"How convenient!" Robotnik crowed, bouncing about like a malicious
rubber ball. "This time my scientific expertise will crush you!
Once all the Time Stones are in my hands, I'll be able to
manipulate time and conquer the world! HO, HO, HO, HO!"

Sonic stood on a rock and thought. Robotnik had control of the
Little Planet. He had Amy, and soon he would have the Time Stones
... but not if Sonic got to them first!

His adventure on the Little Planet was going to be more exciting
and dangerous than he'd planned. It was time to get a move on!

---Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Knuckles the Echidna first appeared in the game Sonic the Hedgehog
3 for Genesis in January of 1994. This game, like Sonic the
Hedgehog 2, also allows a single player to choose either the Sonic
or "Tails" character, and also includes two-player split-screen
competition.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 takes place on the mysterious Floating Island
which holds many special powers. The source of these powers are
the Chaos Emeralds. In Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic and "Tails"
thought that they had destroyed the Death Egg, which was Dr.
Robotnik's heavily armored ship. Instead, Dr. Robotnik managed to
crash land on the Floating Island. After learning that the island
is able to float in the sky by harnessing the power of the
emeralds, the Doc decides to steal the emeralds so he can repair
his Death Egg ship.

To obtain the emeralds, Dr. Robotnik tricks Knuckles, the guardian
of the Floating Island's Chaos Emeralds. He also tells Knuckles
that Sonic and "Tails" are the ones trying to steal the emeralds.
Once Knuckles believes Robotnik's lies, he'll do whatever it takes
to stop Sonic and "Tails".

Between battling the new types of Badniks and trying to outsmart
Knuckles, Sonic and "Tails" have their work cut out for them once
they arrive on the Floating Island and search for Dr. Robotnik.

Knuckles was born and raised on the Floating Island and he knows
all of its secrets. He's strong, athletic and clever. Because
Knuckles knows every hidden passageway on the island, it's easy
for him to block Sonic's path, create extra obstacles, set traps,
and steal Sonic's gold rings.

Long ago, an ancient civilization lived on the Floating Island.
Before this civilization mysteriously disappeared, it left behind
many secrets and mystical powers. Being the only living
descendant of this lost civilization, Knuckles has become the
guardian of the Chaos Emeralds, which are the source of the
island's special floating power.

---Sonic and Knuckles

Knuckles returned in the game Sonic and Knuckles for Genesis in
October of 1994. This unique cartridge also allows you to stack
on either Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or Sonic the Hedgehog 3 to add the
Knuckles character to those adventures!

The last time Sonic and Robotnik went head-to-head, Sonic blasted
Robotnik's Death Egg to smithereens. The explosion heaved Sonic
deep into Floating Island's Mushroom Hills!

Sonic knows that many emeralds, including the Master Emerald, are
hidden somewhere on Floating Island. He bets this Knuckles
character knows where they are! Sonic can't let Robotnik get his
hands on the Master Emerald. He'd have Death Egg fuel forever --
and Floating Island would be destroyed!

Now Sonic's got two problems. How to protect the Master Emerald?
And how to keep Knuckles off his back? He'll have to deal with
that wild Echidna right away!

Knuckles has problems, too. As guardian of Floating Island and
all the emeralds, Knuckles has a mission: to wage war on all
invaders. Whoever threw that bomb is in DEEP trouble. Knuckles
is ready with tricks, traps, and bare-fisted attacks to keep
Floating Island safe.

Sonic's not taking any chances. Neither is Knuckles! But while
they're going the rounds with each other, who's stopping Dr.
Robotnik? Could this be the end of Floating Island?

---Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble

Another special episode for Game Gear introduced the new enemy,
Nack the Weasel, in the game Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble
released in October of 1994.

While the evil genius Dr. Robotnik is testing the ultimate
destructive weapon, one of his assistants makes a big mistake.
The resulting explosion scatters five of the Chaos Emeralds across
the planet Mobius and sets off a high-speed emerald hunt!

Our Hunter Heroes

Sonic: Otherwise known as Sonic the Hedgehog, the blur of blue
with an attitude, and the hero of Mobius. He's quick of wit and
fleet of feet. Whenever the peaceful world of Mobius is
threatened, he's the hedgehog to call.

"Tails": This little fox got his nickname because of his two
tails. The other animals used to tease him until he became
friends with Sonic and learned to use his tails to fly. He
idolizes Sonic, and follows him everywhere.

The Triple Trouble

Dr. Robotnik: This bad egg is trouble incarnate, always stirring
up problems for the inhabitants of Mobius with his latest twisted
schemes. The doctor has one of the Chaos Emeralds, and he thinks
he knows the perfect way to get the other five emeralds back and
keep that meddling hedgehog and his fox friend from interfering.

Knuckles: Knuckles the Echidna was the guardian of the Chaos
Emeralds on the Floating Island. He's strong and smart. Like
Sonic, he knows how to Spin Dash. He can also Power Glide through
the air, and when he uses his knuckles to tunnel and climb,
there's no place he can't go. Dr. Robotnik has tricked him into
thinking that Sonic and "Tails" are out to steal the Chaos
Emeralds, and Knuckles is determined to stop them.

Nack the Weasel: Nack the Weasel is a treasure hunter who is
after the Chaos Emeralds. Though he doesn't know the true power
of the emeralds, he thinks those big pretty jewels will score a
handsome price on the market. And the easiest way to get them is
to steal them from someone else. He may not be as fast as the
others, but he's tricky, and has a speedy little airbike to help
him get around.

---Knuckles Chaotix

Knuckles reappeared in the game Knuckles Chaotix for the 32X
system in March of 1995. This game introduced us to four new
characters.

Carnival Island's in chaos! Tomorrow's the big opening day for
Carnival Island, a huge amusement resort with the latest in
high-tech rides and games. As guardian of the island, it's
Knuckles' job to make sure nothing goes wrong before the grand
event.

Unfortunately, the evil Dr. Robotnik has other plans. He needs
fuel for his latest diabolical devices, and the Power Emerald that
supplies electricity to the entire island fits the bill perfectly.
His awful new invention, the Combi Confiner, should help him get
rid of that annoying echidna and his friends.

When Knuckles returns from patrolling the far end of the island,
he discovers that Dr. Robotnik has imprisoned all of his friends:
Espio the Chameleon, Mighty the Armadillo, Vector the Crocodile,
and Charmy Bee.

After he chases the doctor off, Knuckles discovers that he can
rescue one friend at a time by using Ring Power... only the power
that sparks between the rings holds the two partners together like
a magical rubber band. Never held back for long, Knuckles finds
that with a little teamwork, he can use the stretching and
snapping action of the Ring Power to double, even triple, the
partners' speed.

And they need all the speed they can get. As Dr. Robotnik drains
the power from Carnival Island, everything on the island begins to
break down! Robotnik must be stopped, or by tomorrow morning, the
morning of Carnival Island's big opening day, the grand amusement
park will lie in ruins!

About Knuckles' Friends

Espio the Chameleon: This colorful chameleon values his freedom
above all else, and after he was freed from Dr. Robotnik's Combi
Machine, he decided he must stop the evil doctor at all costs. He
has a hot temper and an intense drive in everything he does, and
sometimes his friend Charmy Bee has to remind him of his manners.
Espio is quick and strong, and his whirling attack is just the
thing you need to get out of a tight spot.

Mighty the Armadillo: Mighty is just that. He's strong, smart,
and confident, and he can't stand weakness in anything. He's one
of Knuckles' good friends, and is determined to help save the
island from Robotnik.

Vector the Crocodile: This cool croc loves the rush of running
when he isn't jammin' with his friends, doing fancy footwork to
the tunes on his headset, or investigating the local food courts.

Charmy Bee: Surprisingly sophisticated for his sixteen years (I
think it should be six), Charmy came to the island in search of
new types of flowers, and found a ton of trouble. But he handles
things in his usual quick, cool and charming way.

I wish to thank you for reading this. And to all the webmasters
who host this with my permission. I wish to thank numerous Chao
experts who made topics at the gamefaqs board about their
hard-worked discoveries. I picked up a few things there.

Major contributors since this guide have been...
Deathhyren - For Big's flashback time.
Amy Rose - Explaining mission 36 needs fixing.

If for any reason you need to contact me, my e-mail is
faqmike@yahoo.com!

Ok, bye now! Until next time, next update or something else. Who
knows what I may do next?
