"This game is bad-ass! if you can handle one thing...you'll never look at a cult the same way again..."
Once I heard about this game, I immediately checked it out. I looked at reviews, I read stories on it, and I got all the information on it that was available at the time, (which wasn't much compared to things now). After I saw everything, I immediately became determined to get ahold of Eternal Darkness, unfortunately I never got that chance... However finally, I saw it at a store, and it was used so it was cheap, so I was able to buy it, and for the most part, all I have to say are good things about this game.
Story:10/10 This story is not only one of the coolest stories I have ever seen, but it is also original, and in days like these its practically impossible to find a story that isn't just straight forward: some guy is threatening to destroy the world, and you have to stop them (NO) this story isn't one of those stories you fall asleep in while you beat the game at the same time, it's one you'll be sucked into even after you beat it.
The whole story is actually rather complex to explain, so I'll just give you the main idea: A girl is called down to Rhode Island by the police to her grandfathers house, she finds out that he had been brutally, (and I mean brutally) murdered. However the murder was unlike anything ever seen, as there was no sign whatsoever of anyone breaking in the house..it was as if a...ghost..had killed him. So the girl is determined to find out exactly what happened, but in the process ends up stumbling into her entire family history, which then leads her to fall into blasphemous events that will soon affect the whole world if something is not soon done, and if she failed the world will fall into eternal darkness...Now, as said, this is only the general idea of the story, there is actually alot more to it then just what I mentioned.
graphics:8/10 the graphics in this game are good, the characters are nicely done as well as the surrounding areas they are in, the only reason they weren't perfect is because some of the monsters look so ridiculous that you will literally have to pause the game to laugh the first couple times you see them, they look like something out of a Zelda game, but you will quickly see past this, as they're looks are very deceiving..
sound:10/10 Holy $$*@ dude! the sound is awesome! the characters have good voices and they not only have no sketches and are smooth, but they are also filled with emotion and through the whole game keep you involved. Another thing is not just the voices, but the sound in general, you can hear the zombies as they slowly step they're way toward you, you'll hear they're feet smudge against the ground, all the sounds are excellent. And the thing that makes it impeccable, is when you start to go insane, (more explanation on this later) you will hear sounds...voices...like you yourself are going insane, and it gets you tense and keeps you focused in on the game the whole time..(I mean come on dude, you know there won't be another game that will give you the feeling that your schizophrenic, that's priceless...)
gameplay:9/10 the game play is really good, the only problem is that because you'll be so into the game, by the time your finished, you'll be hungry for more, and you'll feel like the game fell short on you, when in reality the game is long, but you just wish it was 5 times as long...
The SANITY factor:10/10 If you read any other review for this game, you will see this add on to the review only it might be in another name, but whatever someone calls it, they will mention it, because it has got to be one of the best features ever to be put into a game, and not just a horror game, but any game, it wont matter if they do something to another game or another genre to make it better, it just can't compare to what Silicon Knights has done with Eternal Darkness. Basically what it is, is a meter, like you have a health meter and a magick meter, the sanity meter is a meter too. It will start out full, but as it goes down, this means you are starting to go insane, or lose your sanity, whichever you prefer. You might be thinking right now, (so what, big deal what's that going to do to make anything worthwhile?..) well, I can easily answer that... As it goes down, you will start to have strange things happen to you, it will start small, the camera angle will tilt alittle, you will hear a creepy sound now and then, but as it goes down more, you will have worse and worse things happen to you, until it gets to the point where sometimes...you'll even kill yourself to escape the horror... things that will happen are: you will walk into a room, and your head will fall off, and if you pick it up, it will recite a play from Shakespeare, blood will leak from the walls or the ceiling, you will go into a room and you will be walking on the ceiling, zombies will be everywhere but they will only be hallucinations, you will find a bunch of ammo everywhere, I mean honestly there isn't a point for me to try and list more, because there are way too many, but I guarantee it'll be the best thing you've ever seen in a game before...
Final Summary: Putting it simply the game is bad-ass, and the game is perfect if you can handle three things: you'll wish the game was longer, the game should have had more secrets and things to do after beating it than it did, and three...at the mention of the word ''cult'', you'll grab a bible and a cross, and you'll hide under the bed...
