"I've got the need for speed"
Need for Speed Underground is most likely the best racing game that will ever hit Gamecube. It's long-lasting, has amazing graphics, and great cars.
There are 5 types of races in Underground mode. There is a circuit, which is a normal race that usually has 3 or 4 laps. Every once in a while they will be 6 or 7 laps. Next, there are sprint races. They are basically normal races except they are one lap, start to finish. They take about the same amount of time as a circuit race. Another type of race is a drag race. In the drag race you have a meter, and when the meter gets too high, you need to tap Y to shift gears to bring it back down. The drag races usually last about 30 or 40 seconds. Another event in Underground is the drift race. A drift isn't really a race, but more of a contest. To drift, you need to make a turn and basically hold the turn for as long as possible. The longer you hold, the more points you get. The last type of race in Underground is the lap knockout race. It is like a normal 3-lap circuit race, but at the end of each lap, the person who is in last is eliminated. Every 5 races or so, you will have a tournament with 3 or 4 races. The tournament races are usually circuits, drags, or drifts. All tournament races are the same type of race. In the whole game there are 111 races. As you win more races, you can unlock more stuff to customize your car and improve your performance.
The graphics in Underground are great. The environments are very realistic. It is also amazing the types of decals and vinyl you can put on your car. You name it, it's probably there. There must be millions of combinations. Only one problem in this department is that no matter how badly you crash, your car will never show a sign of damage. This isn't a big problem, but it's noticeable.
The sound of the cars in Underground is very realistic. The main part where this area signs is the soundtrack. There is something for everybody. Some big artists on the soundtrack are Rod Zombie, Static-X, and Lil' John and the Eastside Boyz.
Replay ability- 10/10
This is where Underground truly screams out. The game lasts a very long time. It should take at least a month to beat all 111 races. Plus there is a great split-screen multiplayer mode. This game will probably hold you until the next Nintendo system comes out or your Gamecube breaks. If your a racing fan, you should buy this game without hesitating. Even if you aren't a huge fan of racing games, you should at least rent it.
