The Gamecube's interface music is actually a slowed-down, lower-pitched version of the FDS's BIOS screen music.

The GameCube is the first console from Nintendo to use a purely disc-based system. While Nintendo had experimented with it earlier (Famicom Disk System, 64DD), those were only attachments to their consoles, and featured rewritable media instead of pure storage discs.

During the development process, GameCube was named Project Dolphin. That name was revealed to the public at a press conference in May 1999, and lasted until another press conference in August 2000 where the real name was revealed.

Before the GameCube was released, Nintendo held a contest titled "What Would You Do For a GameCube" in which the 5 people who would do the craziest things would win a GameCube for free. One of the winners would dress up in a Pikmin costume and eat worms. Literally.
