Donkey Konga 2 can be really fun in multiplayer mode
if you can afford enough Bongo controllers. You should try it out. Donkey Konga 2 is almost exactly the same as the first Donkey Konga game
and that's why it did not do well; its not original. It seems as if the only thing they changed is the songs that you drum to.
Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong get into a fight, and Cranky Kong says they should travel around and perform shows for the world. At least the plot is somewhat related to the gameplay, because you get to play songs.
The graphics that appear in the background when your playing a song in Street performance mode are pretty detailed. You will see the honeycombs in bee-hives and other interesting environments in the backgrounds. And of course, the notes you need to play are shown in the foreground. Also, the water in Freestyle mode is pretty detailed too.
Donkey Konga 2 is all about music. You will beat the drums to the rhythm of the music in the game. But the music is pretty limited. I counted 32 total songs in this game, most being obsolete rock and pop music from the 80s that you have never heard of. I noticed that none of the songs are the recent ones that were really popular.
They also don't have and Rap music. I don't expect them to carry the modern 50 cent or Eminem music with all the cuss words (that would bring the ESRB rating up to an M!). I just would like it if they had carried the old school rap from the 90s. That would be clean and have a good rhythm. They did a fine job of putting the tracks into the game, the sound quality is great, and the songs are complete and original.
The gameplay is fair and simple: you beat your bongo according to what note it tells you on the screen. The Bongos are very sensitive and responsive, and you won't be disappointed with the Bongo hardware. You will either clap, hit left Bongo, hit both Bongos, or hit the right bongo when prompted to.
Playing Donkey Konga 2 will tell you how good your sense of rhythm is, as well as let you practice to improve it. Some songs will be slow and it will be easy to tap the Bongos accordingly, others will move fast and you might mess up every now and then.
You will earn coins based on how many beats you get during gameplay. You can use the coins to purchase either harder versions of the songs or boring mimigames. The replay value is lowered because there is no way that you can purchase completely new songs.
The only thing wrong with this game is that it lacks long-time fun and replay value. Other than that, its technically fine. Sure, it has good graphics and songs, but gets really boring after a while. THAT is why you should not buy it.
DK1, DK2, and DK: Jungle Beat are currently the only Gamecube games that use the Donkey Kong Bongos. None of the 3 titles are must haves either. Again, don't buy any of those 3 games and a Bongo because they will be too expensive and get really boring. Sure, it does have a fun multiplayer mode, but think of this: how often will you want or get the chance to play multiplayer mode? Save your money. This game gets boring and loses its novelty after you have owned it for about a month.
