"With Donkey Kong's big, chubby hands, he needs a game where you can pound bongos and clap to the beat. Ironically, this seems to follow that exactly.."
Donkey Konga first came out in 2004 and many people perceived it to be a lame game (no pun intended) that could never match up to DDR. When it arrived, some were plesantly surprised, others, just as they predicted. Basically, the game used bongos to interact with the game, rather than a controller. It was a nice innovation that added a mix to the overall well performing Donkey Kong series. In 2005, Donkey Konga 2 was first released. It didn't prove to be a big change from Donkey Konga. However, don't you just love pounding those bongos?
Donkey Konga 2 is virtually the same game as Donkey Konga. The only major differences are the songs that you can play. This time around, Donkey Konga brings forth more hip-hop/rock 'n roll type songs than the previous installment. There are varied songs, such as Good Charlette. There are also some Nintendo songs (always a favorite of mine) that you can clap to the beat to. Overall, the song selection is varied and well picked.
The story is this: NOTHING. Really, all there is to a story is Donkey Kong characters.
So by now, you're wondering, "What the heck are these bongos?" Well, first of all, bongos will cost some money, but they are a must. Not a need, really, as you have the option of using your controller, but what do you think is the preferred method? Duh. Anyways, like DDR, there will be symbols that float across the screen, pass a circle. When it passes this "circle", depending on the color, you'll have to hit or clap to get points. When there's a yellow symbol, you hit the left bongo. If there's a red symbol, you'll pound the right bongo. If you see a pink symbol, hit 'em both. You'll also see light blue symbols, indicating that you should clap. Yes, the bongos pick up the claps too. Weird. The tune of the song you're playing will have you pounding the bongos and clapping to the beat. It's wild!
Replay Value: Very High
Difficulty: Above Average
Fun Factor: Average w/o friends, insane w/ friends
Donkey Konga 2 is a nice game that has a lot of potential to be one of the best games on the system. Nintendo just needs to spice up the action, and they'll be good to go! Overall, you should get this game if you need a good multiplayer game and if you constantly have parties. (You heard me)
