"Should have been subtitled: Get your ass handed to you"
NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup is the latest installment in the NASCAR series of console games. The game is beautiful and runs extremely smooth. But are there problems that cause this game to fall? Read and find out.
Gameplay: 8/10 The game loses points in the gameplay department. The controls, while they remain simple, are hard to use on the GC. Since your acceleration and brakes are the left and right triggers, it is a pain in the butt to drive around corners. However thankfully there is an options menu where you can tweak the controls. Everything in the game is a replica of the real world, and it is done extremely well. Unfortunately the playtesters must have played too much and gotten extremely good and told EA to raise the difficulty so they could be satisfied (or something). Seriously, the rookies hand you your ass more times than you make corners without hitting walls. That's right, I said ROOKIES. I haven't tried veterans or legends yet (thank God), but I already know how hard this game is. On the plus side there are many gameplay modes and you can play against a friend, which makes the game a little bit easier since your friend probably isn't any better than you.
Sound: 8/10 The sound in the game is what you'd expect, cars zooming every which way. It sounds lifelike, but gets old, and is really loud (which also can be tweaked).
Graphics - 8/10 The graphics are nice, but EA still hasn't fixed the 2D humans standing in the center of the track. Other than that the cars look great, the tracks are nice, and you can even see skid marks, fog, and other things caused by crashes/damage.
Replayability: Depends! For some people this is the ultimate experience and they will not set it down until Sunday afternoon, then they pick it up and play it again Sunday night. For others the feeling of getting your ass handed to you even the first time feels devestating. If you enjoy crashes then just start a race and drive backwards =)
A 4 out of 5
