"The fast and the furious...and the Blue Blur!"
True Blue fans may remember Sonic Drift 1 & 2, and even more will remember Sonic R. Guess what? Sonic Riders leaves all of those IN THE DUST!
Doc Robotnik has created the EX World Grand Prix to challenge Sonic's reputation! The professional Babylon Rogues are entrants in the race, and Team Sonic wastes no time in getting ready to put the evildoers in their place!
Sonic Riders' controls are both easy and hard. Easy because you should get the hang of them in no time. Hard because of the tracks. That's not necessarily a bad thing. The tracks are very whacky, playing on each characters' personal attributes, but will often twist and turn so suddenly and sharply. Speed guys rip up the rails, Flight people can tear through Dash Rings in the air at certain spots, and Power guys total anything dumb enough to stand in front of them.
Air is your gasoline here. It's actually easy to keep a good supply in your tank. Nab Power Rings, bust Item Boxes, pull some massive stunts off of a ramp, etc.
My biggest gripe is the difficulty. The computer is MERCILESS, and knows the ins and outs of every track. Pair that up with trying to finish first in each race, and you have a big challenge on your hands.
Rather than the heavy-duty guitar riffs, Blue Blur has opted to go for some Techno-Styled music. You'll still hear someone wailing on their Fender from time to time.
The voices are OK. Jet sounds like he breathes in helium 24/7. Not bad overall.
Wow. Having just played the dark (and really awesome) Shadow the Hedgehog, it's amazing how bright this game is. The tracks and background are nicely detailed, and the characters themselves are very well animated.
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle has NOTHING on this game. There's a whole slew of multiplayer options here. There's also 50 Extreme Gears to unlock, ranging from boards to bikes to skates. Did I mention about 15 tracks and 20 characters as well?
Anyone looking for one wild Sonic-styled racing game should absolutely peek at Sonic Riders. It's well worth the $40.00, hands down. Think you can keep up?
