Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Review by RHF
"This discovery should've been left alone, to rot in history."
While I haven't had the pleasure of playing the genesis version, video's I've seen thankfully doesn't leave any doubt that the Gamegear version is even worse. So much worse. Just goes to show that games based off movies typically end in tragedy.
Story:
If you've seen the movie (and you should) then you know what this about. If not, I slap you in the face, but I'll tell you before hand.
It's 1938, Germany declared war on Europe and Adolf Hitler has his sights on the legendary Holy grail, the cup of Jesus Christ. However, he doesn't know the location of the grail, but he knows who does. It's up to Indiana Jones to stop the Nazi's latest scheme, save the world and his father.
Gameplay:
Well, it's not impossible to play, I have gotten pass the first stage, somehow, once, it's just near unplayable, and requires a lot of patience. Biggest problem is that Indy can't duck and whip at the same time so expect to die by enemies constantly. Oh and FYI, falling will hurt you while in mid air.
Controls are stiff and jerky, making platform jumping really hard, add to the fact that if an enemy shoots you, you'll step back, which adds even more cheap deaths abound.
All Indy has to fight is his whip, while Indians have arrows, and the Cowpokes and Nazi's have guns, which makes fighting them tough seeing as they have distance over you, and with the duck+whip combo, they will kill you.
The only difference between the Genesis and the Gamegear, as far as I know, is that you're not ending each level fighting an unoriginal boss that never appeared in the movie. First level has you finding the cross in a surprisingly big cavern. I never gotten near the end of the second so I don't know what you do. Shallow water can kill you : ( 1/10
Sound: Even though this is the Gamegear, this is amongst the worst music and sound ever. It sucks, the end 0/10
Graphics: Picture Genesis version condensed to smaller size then worsened times crap. 1/10
Overall:
Ugh, I pray no one ever learns of this title and tries to find a copy to play. Their very face might explode like in the end of Raiders. This has to be worse then even Superman 64 and ET, if not in the same league. Don't ever play this game.
