0a - Dedication

To anyone over 13 who sees that this isn't just a kids' game.

----------------------------------------------------------------

0b - Version info.

1.0 - Initial release. Complete.

1.0.1 - Baltoy and Claydol are genderless, so they've been
taken out of "father" lists. Thanks to Bass PikaMew.EXE
         for that information.

Added a note about the Bug group unable to be bred
         TM26.

1.0.2 - Donphan learns TM26 at level 49. Thanks to Mewten for
         that information.

1.1.2 - Meophist has sent me a list of chain breeding
possibilities, which I'm currently adding to the guide,
since knowing how can be bred the moves are just as
important as knowing who can breed them.

Removed the 1.0.1 note about the Bug group and TM26, as
it'll be covered in the new section (3c) anyway.

Reformatted the "credit" section, though that's a moot
         point.

1.1.3 - Added to Meophist's chain breeding list. It's now
         complete up to his work.

Added information about Kecleon and TM46. I'll change
that to a level when I find out what it is. Thanks to
         HyperBlissey for the information.

1.1.4 - Corrected a mistake in the 1.1.3 version info,
         crediting the wrong person. Oops!

Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire see their European
release tomorrow (25th July). There really is something
unfair with the delay, considering it's the same
cartridges being sold, only with different boxes and
         manuals.

1.1.5 - Added a note in the FAQ section about usage of
         Meophist's chain breeding list.

Made a minor correction to Meophist's entry for Shadow
Ball (Shedinja is in the "No Egg" group) - Thanks to
         Mitch for that.

1.1.6 - Finally updated. Sorry about taking so long. Just
         corrections and FAQ additions here:

Added a question regarding Volbeat to the FAQs.

Corrected a spelling mistake - Thanks to Thomas
         Wennink.

1.1.7 - Added the breeding chain for TM11 - Thanks to Amazing
         Ampharos.

Removed the now incorrect "I haven't formatted 18 of
the breeding chains yet" forenote to the breeding
         chains section.

Removed the now-redundant link to Meophist's original
         breeding chain page.

1.1.8 - Amazing Ampharos "decided to knock out a couple of easy
chains", and subsequently finished the breeding chains
         for both TM39 and TM46.

Changed the names of TMs in this section to their
numbers, to stop messing up the search instructions in
         section 2.

1.1.9 - I know, I know. Thanks to Colosseum this has become
hugely out-of-date. I'm going to have more time to see
to this soon, so I'm going to try to phase in the Pokés
         from Colosseum sometime.

I've still got a bit of an e-mail backlog, including a
complete breeding chain for Toxic. I plan to update
those within a week, luck permitting.

Meanwhile, I've added a brief "Colosseum Notes" section
with a heap of probably-well-known information that
applies to this guide. Through updates I'm hoping to
fit these notes in better with the rest of the guide.

I've changed my e-mail address and some of the other
information relating to contributing to the guide, by
the way. The updated information can be seen in the
         "Contacts" section.

Finally, this update is the first after the guide's
birthday. Not a particularly important note, but "feh".

1.1.10 - Whoops, I didn't upload the most recent version of the
guide. The only difference was an incomplete sentence
in the Contact section, but I should still re-upload so
         that it makes sense.

1a - Disclaimer

I don't own Pokémon, and I have absolutely nothing to do with
Pokémon other than playing the games.

(In hindsight, has anyone ever been sued for forgetting a
disclaimer?)

What also needs to be said is that, as my intellectual property,
this work is mine and the whole "any reproduction in whole or
part" thingy applies. GameFAQs and GameFAQs ONLY have permission
to host this, so should this be seen on anything other than
GameFAQs, you know something's up.

And since it's inevitable that some morons are going to rip this
apart and put it up on other sites, I suppose it needs to be
said, considering all I've heard about Cheat Code Central :P

----------------------------------------------------------------

1b - Introduction

For the clueless - TMs are special move-teaching items that can
be used once to teach a pokémon a move. They differ from HMs in
that HMs can be used infinitely. TMs can be bought, found or
given to you.

As you're all aware (ok, most of you, I suppose), there are TMs
in this game that can only be obtained once. This is most of the
TMs that you are given or find, though some of those can be
bought later. Of course, any TM that can be bought is unlimited.

However, as a number of you are also aware, you can breed TM
moves onto a child so long as the father knows the move.

So, to put it basically, the point of this guide is simply to
find male pokémon who can naturally learn various TM moves, so
that they can be passed on without using a TM.

"Why?" - Two reasons, really:

First of all, I see a thread every now and then that basically
involves "I used TM xx on a female without thinking, so is
there any way to get another one?", and by making this perhaps
that'll happen less.

The other reason is that there's _bound_ to be some
perfectionists who'll want to hold on to their complete TM list.

----------------------------------------------------------------

2 - How best to use this Guide

I've refrained from using TM numbers or move names yet, as I
intend for this guide to be a fast-use thing.

Basically, when you want to look up a TM, use your browser's
"Find" feature (Hit "Ctrl+F" if you use IE, for example), and
look for "TM XX" (where "XX" is a number), or the move's name.

First you'll be taken to a list of TMs showing whether they're
buyable, learnable or unlearnable:

If a TM is "buyable", buy it. Done.

If a TM is "learnable" then you should level up a (male!)
pokémon listed to the level specified, and then it can pass on
the move via breeding or (if necessary) chain breeding.

If a TM is "unlearnable" then you really have only got one of
it, unfortunately.

Back at the browser's "Find" feature, click "Find Next" and
you'll then be taken to the guide's entry for that TM, showing
how to get/make a father with it.

If a TM is buyable, I shall not specify how to make a "TM
Parent", as there's no point, really.

Finally, if the TM is "learnable", click "Find Next" once more
to be taken to a chain breeding list to see who can receive the
TM, and how to get it to them. Again, I shall not include
buyable TMs.

Really simple stuff, hopefully.

Note: What this helps you do is pass on TM moves through
breeding. BUT! The obvious limitation to this is that it is
impossible to pass TM moves from or to unique pokémon, so to
give, say, a Metagross a TM it doesn't learn naturally, you'd
still have to actually use the TM for it.

Furthermore, if a child of a family doesn't learn the TM, you're
also stuck. For example, a Wurmple can't learn any TMs, so you'd
still need to use a TM to give TM moves to Beautifly or Dustox.

3c - How to pass a TM:

Forenote: This section should be easy enough to use. Glance down
at the TM01 entry for an example: To give Pinsir the move, the
chain would be Vigoroth -> Spinda -> Volbeat -> Pinsir.

Another forenote: This is a massive undertaking, so
- understandably - Meophist has not completely finished it. If a
TM hasn't got a complete breeding chain listed, the notice:

***NOTE: INCOMPLETE***

will be displayed underneath the chain.

Yet another forenote: Amazing Ampharos chipped in and sent me
the chains for Sunny Day, Rock Tomb and Thief, and assures me
that they're correct.

4 - Colosseum Notes (Incomplete)

------------------------

Note: Since the focus of this update (1.1.9) was to finish up
the breeding chains (pre-Colosseum), this section's nowhere near
done yet.

Marc Penn sent me an e-mail describing the Shadow Pokémon that
either start with TM moves or learn them through the course of
levelling up. Here's what it said:

"Dear Mikaga,
First, I would like to start off and write that your guide is
very interesting, and that it is very helpful to players, like
myself, who do not want to watse their rare TMs. I'm writing
this e-mail to ask if you will include the pokémon that can
learn TM-based attacks in Pokémon Colosseum. Here are a few of
them:

-Umbreon knows Snatch initially.
-Quilava, Slugma, Sunflora, and Bayleef know Sunny Day initially.
-Crocnaw/Quagsire knows initially/learns Rain Dance.
-Quagsire learns Earthquake.
-Noctowl knows Steel Wing initially.
-Bayleef learns Solarbeam.
-Ariados knows Sludge Bomb initially.
-Quilava and Piloswine know Dig initially.
-Misdreavus knows Shadow Ball initially."

------------------------

Additionally, the Buyable TMs can be acquired in Colosseum as
well. Those that can be bought straight off can be bought the
same way in-game.

Kevin Hughes sent me information about how to get the TMs you
would normally get from the Game Corner in Colosseum:

TM 13 for 4,000 PokéCoupons
TM 24 for 4,000 PokéCoupons
TM 29 for 3,500 PokéCoupons
TM 32 for 1,500 PokéCoupons
TM 35 for 4,000 PokéCoupons

PokéCoupons are tokens you win through tournaments or Mt. Battle
similar to winning coins from Game Corner. The prices of TMs in
PokéCoupons are also the same as the price in coins, notably.

------------------------

Finally, it struck me recently that Smeargle is obtainable in
Colosseum. This means you could get a male Smeargle to Sketch TM
moves from people you battle through the course of the game and
then breed from there. This blows open a lot of breeding
possibilities, especially for moves that no Pokémon learns
through levelling, or for barriers with a Pokémon's egg type.

5 - FAQ

------------------------

Q: Some of the fathers are evolved pokémon that learn the move
at a lower level than they evolve at. Isn't that a bit stupid?

A: Hardly. Take a Heart Scale to the Move Tutor and Bob's your
aunt.

------------------------

Q: Why bother listing multiple pokémon from the same family
under the same move?

A: Because in some cases not all pokémon in the same family
learn that particular move. An example is Dig: At level 41
Trapinch learns Dig, but Vibrava and Flygon do not learn it at
all.

------------------------

Q: What's the point of all this? Some of these pokémon don't
have any other pokémon in their egg group that learn the TMs as
egg moves.

A: Read the intro. Breeding passes on TMs as well as egg moves,
so as long as the baby is compatible with the TM, it'll learn
it.

Addition (1.1.2): Look at the breeding chain to find out.

------------------------

Q: Are you going to list the remaining 186 pokémon when they
become available?

A: If and when, hopefully, yes.

Addition (1.1.9): Thanks to Colosseum and Jirachi, 67 more
Pokémon are available now. I'm looking at bringing them in
soon.

------------------------

Q: What order have you used to list the fathers in each list?

A: Hoenn Pokédex order. The chain breeding section uses National
Pokédex order, as that is the order Meophist originally used.

------------------------

Q: Are there any plans to extend this any further?

A: I've got two ideas about this:

The first idea is to list the fathers by the fastest ones taught
the move (so the highest on the list is the quickest that learns
the move from the time it's caught).

The other idea is to create recommended "TM Pokémon", which are
pokémon that can learn multiple TMs through levelling. Then from
that I could create a "TM" PC Box recommendation of some sort.

Addition (1.1.9): Changed my stance on these: The first idea
wouldn't serve much use for the time it'd take to sort, and the
second one will become mostly useless thanks to Smeargle.

------------------------

Q: Were these questions really asked?

A: Not the ones above, no, but I anticipate that if I don't put
them there, they will be asked. Just saving everyone's time.

------------------------

Q: The chain breeding list mentions Pokémon like Pichu in some
places, but Pichu can't breed. What's up with that?

A: Pichu may not be able to breed, but Pikachu and Raichu can.
This section notes every family of Pokémon by their lowest form
of evolution, as that is what hatches out of the egg with the
move.

------------------------

Q: If Volbeats are always male and only a male pokemon can pass
on moves, how could they breed?

A: There's a 50/50 chance for Volbeats no matter what you breed
Illumise with. Otherwise there'd be no way to breed its' Egg
Move, Trick (via Kadabra), which Illumise cannot learn.

6 - Contact Information

If and when you find an inaccuracy -if I've listed an
always-female pokémon as a father, for example- contact me at
mikaga@hotmail.com to notify me of it and I'll try to fix it
ASAP. Also, please stick the tag "[PokeGuide]" in the subject
somewhere, so it'll be auto-sorted into a folder I can easily
find it in.

You'll also get a place in the credits - you'll have contributed
to the guide, so it's only fair.

7 - Credits

CJayC: He's the head of this FAQ site called "GameFAQs", y'see.

Bass PikaMew.EXE: Corrected my entry for Rock Tomb, telling me
that Baltoy and Claydol were genderless.
                  Thanks!

Mewten: Corrected my entry for Earthquake, telling me that
Donphan learns it at level 49. Thanks too!

Meophist: The breeding chains (a.k.a. section "3c"). This must
have been a massive undertaking on his part, and even
now it's still not entirely complete. There's more
than enough to be considered "useable" though. Lots of
          thanks!!

HyperBlissey: For telling me about Thief and Kecleon. Thanks as
              well!

Mitch ("aka Spectreon"): Correction regarding the breeding
chain for Shadow Ball. Thanks too!

Thomas Wennink: Corrected the "Skarmary" spelling mistake. More
                thanks!

Amazing Ampharos: The full breeding chain for Sunny Day, and for
a fast response when asked to check formatting
and cut redundancies. Also for subsequently
getting me to work on this for the first time
                  this year. Thanks!

Also for complete (I'm assured) chains for
Rock Tomb and Thief. If he keeps this up, I
won't be able to call it just "Meophist's"
                  section, heh.

Marc Penn: Notes on which Shadow Pokémon (Colosseum) start with
TM moves learned, and which learn them by levelling.

Kevin Hughes: Information about how to buy the "Game Corner" TMs
              in Colosseum.

Andy Pfeiffer: Correction with the Earthquake breeding chain,
in that Lileep cannot learn Earthquake. Thanks!

Michael Wong: Correcting my mistake about where to obtain the TM
              for Frustration.

TimeSpaceMage: Reminding me how to spell "Bellossom". D'oh! Also
notified me about the redundant reference to an
updated note on Sunny Day after the breeding
               chain was added.

r_mage and PystGohan: Their "Level-Up Moves Tables" Guide, also
on GameFAQs, allowed me to verify certain
moves and the levels that they were
                      learned at.

Meowth346: Head of Pokémon Forever (www.pokefor.tk), and
provider of a lot of useful tables, calculators et
cetera. Also allowed me to further check learned
moves. Meophist also used this website to create the
           breeding chains.

Nintendo/Game Freak: Guess. Go on, you'll never get it...
                     (Sidenote: Someone actually e-mailed me
with the answer a while ago.)

A friend of mine called Matt: Getting my copy of Ruby for me,
since it's a little harder to get
                              a copy where we are.
