<:-:-: INTRODUCTION :-:-:>
x-Men Reign of Apocalypse was released in North America 09/27/2001. There are
four selectable characters: Wolverine, Storm, Rogue and Cyclops. This game is
roughly based on those awesome arcade games, where you pick 1 of 12 characters
and battle through countless enemies. The arcade game is very delightful,
especially with a few friends. This game for gameboy advance is not as fun as
the arcade, but its still fun to play and beat if you have 1-2 hours of spare
time. This FAQ is to give you an understanding of each stage, what to expect
in each stage, and few tips for if you are just starting or are CONFUSED.

-Character Point System-
=========================//
This game is a side scrolling beat-em-up' game. Other games in this
category are Double Dragon or Streets of Rage. However at the end of each
stage in X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse, you are given 2 points to allocate
to any three categories that will improve your character.
MUTANT POWER: Every point put into this category will add more attacks
to your powered up or special attack (see tips). This is a neat category
to upgrade.
VITALITY: Every point put into this category increases the amount of damage
that you can take before dieing. It may seem like a good idea to increase
this category, but you will rarely lose all of your lives, and even if you
do, you can set the game up to include many continues.
STRENGTH: This is the best category to upgrade. Every point put into this
will increase the amount of damage that you do to each enemy. After
battling countless enemies and seeing as how you'll be hitting the A button
easily over 1000 times in this game, it would be wise to upgrade this and
make the game bearable.
RECOMMENDED: A balance of both MUTANT POWER and STRENGTH is what I
recommend. The STRENGTH will also increase how much your mutant power
damage does, and the MUTANT POWER will increase how many hits you
can make in each special attack. VITALITY is not useful because it is
common to beat the game without losing any lives.
======================\\
-Point Mechanics-
======================//
There are two factors that determine how many points that you get, number
of hits, and time. For every hit that you strike against an enemy, you
recieve 10 points. For every second that is left at the end of the stage
you recieve 10 points. The points are calculated at the end of each stage
and carried over to the next stage. Every 10,000 points you receive
a bonus life, this is the only way to recieve extra lives in this game.
The point screen should look something like this.
HITS X 10 = XXXX
TIME X 10 = XXXX
TOTAL POINTS: XXXXX
======================\\
-ITEMS-
======================//
There are four, simple items in x-Men Reign of Apocalypse. The items
will drop at the same places every game.
HALF LIFE REFILL: This -spinning half filled red plus sign-, will
refill your life meter half way.
FULL LIFE REFILL: This -spinning filled red plus sign-, will
completely refill your life meter.
+100 TIME: A -blue and white clock- will add 100 seconds onto the
countdown time for beating the mission.
MUTANT POWER REFILL: This -spinning red x-men logo- will completely
refill your special attack meter. Use your mutant power before
picking this up so you don't waste it!
======================\\
-TIPS-
======================//
(-*-)Health refills at the end of each mission. This means that at
each boss you can either go nuts if you have a nice buffer of health,
or be very conservative (B button only) if you are close to death.
(-*-)If you become surrounded, it is sometimes wise to press both
the A + B buttons to perform an area attack. This however will
drain a small portion of your health. It is worth it if it saves
you from being attacked losing more than what amount is drained.
(-*-)Press down and then roll your finger off down and onto left or
right and as you press left or right, hit the A button to perform
a special attack that is different for each character. This attack
does not drain your health.
(-*-)When next to an enemy, down and then roll your finger off up
and onto left or right and as you press left or right, hit the A
button to grapple and then press the A button once again to throw
your enemy behind you. When you throw the enemy behind you, its
flying body can take down other enemies, which means less work for
you to do. This attack also works on sub bosses and bosses. This
attack does not drain your health.
(-*-)A powered up or special attack is a powerful combination of blows
that can only be used if your blue meter below your health bar is full.
This blue meter will move up a decent amount for every attack that
hits an enemy. The blue meter may also be completely filled up
if you see a rotating red x-men logo along the way through a stage.
Once the powered up attack is finished, the blue meter will empty,
and you must refill it (which often does not take long at all).
(-*-)As a general rule, B button is a safer attack than the A
button attack because it sends the enemy off their feet, however
it does less damage than the A button attack.
(-*-)Use the stage hazards to your advantage. The enemies will always
walk in a direct line towards you, so position yourself so that a
hazard (such as a flame thrower, street spikes, land mines) is in
between you and your enemy.

==Stage 01==
Title: "XAVIER MANSION"
Setting: Alter Dimension X MANSION
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: The Blob
<Note> Try and use only the B button against the blob. If you
have plenty of health to throw around then you can use the A button
because it will speed up the fight.

==Stage 02==
Title: "CANADIAN SHOWDOWN"
Setting: Canada
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: Cable
<Note> Cable is the first challenge in the game, just stick
to the B button only technique if you become overwhelmed.

==Stage 03==
Title: "DEPARTMENT H"
Setting: Aircraft Hanger
Sub-Boss: Saber-Tooth
Boss: Gambit
<Note> Why are we attacking Gambit? We are fighting in an
alternative dimension so Gambit can finally be as evil as he
wants to be. It would have been better to have Saber-Tooth help
in some way instead of having to fight him.

==Stage 04==
Title: "BLACKBIRD"
Setting: Top Side of the Blackbird Aircraft
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: Phoenix
<Note> This is a short and easy mission. Relax and let the finger
thats pushing the A button take a quick nap. Phoenix is a real
push over.

==Stage 05==
Title: "SENTINEL BASE"
Setting: Sentinel Base in Colorado
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: Juggernaut
<Note> Juggernaut has an immense amount of health, if you use your A
button attack he will counter with any number of attacks that can
easily take 1/4 to 1/3 of your life. Use only the strong but slow
attack (B button).

==Stage 06==
Title: "UNDERSEA BASE"
Setting: Sentinel Base in Colorado
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: Magneto
<Note> This is the first but unfortunately not the last time you
see these power ranger type enemies. They can pull many tricks and
attacks and have a respectable amount of health. These enemies advance
in plentiful and steady numbers!
<Note> Towards the end of the stage there is a line of three fire
flame hazards. It is difficult to get by them without getting hit
more than twice! A full health refill will appear on the right side of
them so try and stick to that side even though it is very difficult!
<Note> Magneto is a very difficult boss. Try and stick with the B
button only tactic and don't fret if you lose 1 or 2 lives.

==Stage 07==
Title: "PARIS"
Setting: Paris, France - Hellfire Club Roof
Sub-Boss: NightCrawler
Boss: Psylocke
<Note> NightCrawler is easy to beat, even if you are not powerful.
Use the B button to throw him into the spikes on either side of the
fighting field. If he tries to get off of the spikes, give him a
friendly nudge back on. However he can be defeated faster with
2 powered up attacks and a few hits afterwards. If you are hurting
from the previous fights, try and stay alive for about 5-10 seconds
after starting the fight with NightCrawler, and a full life item
will drop to your right.
<Note> Psylocke and Nightcrawler areof equal difficulty. If
you're low on health when you go into the fight, then wait about 8-10
seconds and a full health item will drop. Use any attack, Psylocke
is rather easy.

==Stage 08==
Title: "THE SAVAGE LAND"
Setting: Jungle outside of Apocalypse's Geothermal Plant
Sub-Boss: Sauron
Boss: Beast
<Note> For some reason, the enemies from stage 01 make a
reappearance. They are very easy at this point of the game since
you should be use to killing MUCH harder enemies than these.
<Note> A half life item will drop 5-10 seconds, into the
fight against Sauron.

==Stage 09==
Title: "THE STATUE OF LIBERTY"
Setting: Industrial Strength Elevator next to the Statue of Liberty
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: Colossus
<Note> This is a short, but difficult stage. You are attacked by
the underwater power ranger enemies and those french gang members.
Not to long into the stage, Colossus enters and he can dish out some
decent attacks. He does not have as much health as Juggernaut, but
the amount of enemies combined with his slow "hit and walk-away"
tactics make this a moderate to difficult fight.

-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]
==Stage 10==
Title: "GENOSHA"
Setting: Apocalypse's Coloning Facility
Sub-Boss: NONE
Boss: Silver Samurai
<NOTE> If Silver Samurai gets a few combos off on you, expect to be
sent back to Xavier in a body bag. STAY AWAY FROM HIM and use the B
button only technique if you find him difficult.
-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]
-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]
==Stage 11==
Title: "THE GOLDEN GATE"
Setting: San Francisco
Sub-Boss: Arch-Angel
Boss: Forge
<NOTE> Arch-Angel is a disappointing fight. I expected it to be a
very difficult fight however it is not. You might get hit by one or
two of his special attacks, but it is nothing to worry about. About
10-15 seconds into the fight a half life refill item will drop on the
right. Pick it up as fast as you can! Do not wait or hesitate because
it goes away after about 3 seconds.
<NOTE> Forge's guns are rather powerful. Try and keep him busy by
using combo's and special attacks. There are NO health items during
this fight.
-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]
-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]-[]
==Stage 12==
Title: "BLUE AREA OF THE MOON"
Setting: Apocalypse's Moon Base
Sub-Boss: Pyro
Boss: Apocalypse
<NOTE> Throughout the stage there will be numerous full life refills.
<NOTE> Pyro is only powerful if you let him be. Try and use
combination attacks to get him from blasting you with his flamethrowers.
If all else fails mix the (down+left+A) attack with the B button attack.
Do not use the jumping attack because he can counter it every time!
Beware however, if he gets his fire attack combo off, you will not
recover easily.
<NOTE> Apocalypse! The final boss is a hybrid of machine and magic.
He will throw tabletop saw blades through the floor, and conjure an
interesting magic attack. The battle is difficult, but using jump
attacks against him is very effective. Apocalypse is surprisingly fast
for his enormous size.

1)Dear Mr. Buckwalter,
Read your faq on X-Men, Reign of Apocalypse, and it was great,
very helpful, just a few things. The fella you call Pterodactyl
is named Sauron, and Flamethrower is actually Pyro (original, eh?).
You probably don't care, and I'm probably the only one retentive
enough to notice, but since you took the time to write the faq to
help others in the game, I felt thought it my duty to contribute
in my small way. Adam Savvas
--Hey I love getting emails like this, not only full of
compliments but fixes to my walkthrough. Thanks Mr. Savvas
