Madden NFL 2003
Review by SocomSinister
"Memories of the SNES, Just Updated Rosters"
I never thought EA Sports would ever bring back the classic look of the SNES Madden Graphics with all the platforms out(N-64,PSX,X-Box). The GBA Madden 2003 not only rejuvinates the SNES look, but the gameplay is just as good as it was before.
Gamemodes: 9/10
Exhibition Mode- Want to pickup your Gameboy Advance and play? Then go to Exhibition mode so you can go out on the grid iron and get started.
Season Mode- Trade Players, Sign Created Players and Free Agents. Build your own fantasy team with or without the salary cap. Ever wanted Michael Vick and Warren Sapp on the same team? Well you can do it now. Although for some reason I can't make trades for some players such as Tiki Barber.
Create-A-Player Mode- Just like the SNES mode, create a player, give him his position, and give him a workout such as: the obstical course, Coach Rogers, Protect the QB, Run in for a TD, Prevent a TD, and alot of others. When he's done, bring him to a team and see how ready he is for the big boys.
Gameplay: 9/10
With Four Buttons in hand, there isn't that much you can do. It's almost impossible to run the ball up the middle without being tackled. I throw more than I run. There are TONS of plays you can select, from a HB TOSS, to a SHOTGUN HAIL MARY. Who says offense is all you need? Madden's got Defense. There are also TONS of plays on the other side of the line of scrimmage from a GOAL LINE BLITZ, to a NICKEL 4 DEEP. The Punting and Kick Game are pretty much the same, although you can't select how high and low you want to kick/punt the ball.
Graphics: 8/10
The classic SNES style presentation. Smooth graphics of the players chasing each other on the field. Instead of commentary, there is a window that comes up on the screen after every play. It'll tell you how many yards the player gained/lossed on that one play. It's kind of amusing when you make a trade that it's the same picture of the white guy who looks like Brett Favre, and the Black Guy who looks like Warren Sapp. Nice celebrations after every touchdown.
Sound: 9/10
There may not be commentary, but there are a few sounds like ''1st Down'', and listening when the ball is punted/kicked. You can hear how much effort the players are giving every play. Hear them screaming when their blocking or tackling someone. After every touchdown, you can press buttons to make celebration noised like whistles and horns.
Playing Time/Replayability: After every season, I end up going 17-0 with the Detroit Lions.
Closing Remarks:
This game is a steal for $19.99 in stores near you. I highly recommend you to buy this game. This game may be slow paced at certain times in the game.
Overall: 9/10
