Kururin Paradise
Review by mikecullerne
"A fun puzzler that keeps on giving."
I’m sure everyone remembers the crazy puzzle title Kuru Kuru Kururin which launched in New Zealand with the Game Boy Advance, everyone except those crazy people in North America! They never actually got Kuru Kuru Kururin and while Australasia missed out on a stack of GBA titles (in particular Tactics Ogre), Americans are louder so they demanded a sequel and naturally they are going to get one and the good news is so will we! Kururin Paradise features the return of the unique puzzle adventure in which players must guide their characters slowly rotating helicopter through various mazes. The game is very challenging and its popularity certainly proved that it was a very fun game and the single pak multiplayer was certainly a great feature.
The basic concept is very much like Kuru Kuru Kururin. You have a bird's eye view on a maze and you must get your ‘helicopter’ from one side of the maze to the other. However to make it difficult, the helicopter is spinning and you must navigate it as it spins by timing how you approach certain parts of the maze. Early levels are relatively straight forward but as expected, levels become more complex and harder to move through. Kururin Paradise has a lot more levels of different complexity.
Graphically Kururin is very simple and colourful. It is hard for puzzle games such as this title to have spectacular graphic components because it is essential the player can concentrate on the task at hand rather than the beautiful scenery. The graphics are functional and for those that do like graphics over gameplay there is plenty of variety between the different worlds. The game is presented well and is easy to follow through the menu’s, which is perfect for the younger ones among us. It is bright and bold and gamers certainly won't have trouble seeing the path ahead.
So what can I say – Kuru Kuru Kururin Advance offers simple fun and very addictive gameplay. It is a true portable game too as you can pick up and play whenever you want, play for a few minutes and actually achieve and save something instead of having to sit down for hours to work through a large quest. Kururin Paradise more of the same gameplay with all new worlds and puzzles as well as more gameplay modes. Keep an eye out for Kururin as the title is usually found in limited stock so if you see it - buy it, you might not get another chance.
