    1.1 Introduction

Greetings, mate. This guide is for the video game Sword of Mana. It tells you
how to defeat every single boss of the game. I enjoyed the game, that's why I
wanted to write this FAQ. I hope this guide can help you.

    1.3 The Boss Strategies

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
    Boss: Jackal

    Playable as: Hero

    Location: Granz Castle

    Difficulty: 1/10

The first boss of the game is extremely simple. Keep slashing him roughly
and whenever he raises his arm, retreat to avoid his slash. The only thing you
should watch out about this boss is when he goes to the top of the screen,
then rushes across the dome. You can easily avoid this by not being opposite
of the boss. The boss is slow and he has only a small amount of HP, so you'll
get him down easily with your sword. I've seen Jackal shooting a large energy
ball at you, but I've only seen him doing it few times. An extremely easy
    battle, though.

    Boss: Werewolf

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Vinquette Mansion

    Difficulty: 2/10

Wereworlf has got some damaging attacks. The best way to defeat him is to
take out your bow and start shooting arrows at him. That way he can't get
close and goes down easily. DO NOT even try to get close to him because of
his damaging melee attacks. He can also shoot an energy ball at you, causing
major damage. Keep up with the bow and you'll eventually win.

    Boss: Count Lee

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Vinquette Mansion

    Difficulty: 4/10

This boss can be tough if you don't know what to do. Lee mainly floats around
the area as a vampire, and his main attack is to kick you. Bow does only a
little bit of damage, so don't use it. Melee attacks are the best choice. As
you take health from Lee, he may disappear and tens of bats will be released
for around ten seconds. This attack does major damage, but try avoiding it by
jumping around. As you take some more health from Lee, he starts shooting
some beams at you that slow you down and damage a lot. The beams move slowly,
so they are easy to avoid. Lee gets more agressive as you take health from
him, so prepare for using a caramel or two. Do not use Salamander in this
battle, he causes only a little damage and you'd waste your MP.

    Boss: Hydra

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Marsh Cave

    Difficulty: 4/10

First, Hydra has got two heads and both of the heads have got 150 HP, that
means 300 HP total. It's very much at this part of the game, so prepare for
a long fight. The Hydra's heads can shoot fire breath when you're close
enough, hit you as melee, spit freeze breath that can freeze you and can also
shoot poison breath that causes poison. These attacks are very damaging, but
they can be easily avoided. Just keep your distance away when the heads shoot
fire and poison breath. Run around to avoid the freeze breath and don't go near
the shore to avoid the melee attacks. Once again, Bow is a good weapon for
this battle, because it would be too risky to wait Hydra's heads to get close,
then attack them with your sword. Flail works well, too. Whenever you get hit
by the breaths, switch to Heroine and immediately heal with Wisp. After one
of the heads is gone, the battle will go twice as easier. Not a terribely
    hard battle.

    Boss: Guardian

    Playable as: Heroine

    Location: Airship

    Difficulty: 3/10

This is quite a simple battle, as there's no much strategy for it. Guardian
robot's hand rockets are very devastating, so your health will probably go
down very quickly. Prepare to heal with Wisp when needed. Guardian's defence
is pretty high, so better switch to Bogard and let him do the attacking.
Bogard's strength comes in handy, his sword causes great damage. Don't worry
about him; he'll do fine without healing.

    Boss: Anghek's Servant

    Playable as: Hero

    Location: Abandoned Mine

    Difficulty: 3/10

Yet another simple battle. Anghek crawls around the area, leaving fiery spots
behind him as he crawls by. Make sure not to get hit by them. When Anghek
comes out from the ground, take a distance away to avoid the whirlpool he
creates. Start attacking the head with your sword along with Watts, he can
help you at creating massive damage. This battle is a pushover, and there's
not a real strategy for it. Keep attacking the head and heal with Wisp. You'll
    do perfectly fine.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
    Boss: Medusa

    Playable as: Hero

    Location: Altar of Time

    Difficulty: 5/10

Here's one boss battle that can be hard. Don't worry about Medusa's snakes,
Amanda will probably defeat them out from your way. Focus on the giant head-
Medusa as she teleports around the altar. If she sends a yellow beam that
flies around the whole area, retreat to the entrance of the altar to avoid it.
The beam causes huge damage and it can petrify you, but fortunately, it will
disappear soon. If Amanda gets trouble with the snakes, take them out from
your way because they can poison you. If you want to end this battle fast,
equip Knuckles and start attacking with them (in case you've leveled them up).
This battle can take some time, and you'll probably have to heal few times,
but being patient is the key for this fight.

    Boss: Devius

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Devius Manor

    Difficulty: 6/10

Now here's one very annoying boss. Devius has transformed into a ugly sea
creature who floats around the area. His melee attacks can be damaging, but
they're easy to avoid. The thing that makes this battle hard is the revolving
platform. I suggest you won't go against the platform, just let it take you
where Devius is. This is the easiest way to get close to Devius, then hack
him with your sword! The most annoying attack of Devius is when he stops
at some of the platform's edges, then sends three blue projectiles at you.
They cause MASSIVE, and I really mean massive damage and inflict Darkness
on you. Avoid them like hell by jumping! Sword or Axe is the best weapon for
this fight, because you need some weapon strong! Devius' defence is very high,
so you are going to have some long time while trying to defeat him. Don't use
magic to hurt Devius, use magic only for healing.

    Boss: Boison Vine

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Cascade Cave

    Difficulty: 5/10

If you are playing as Hero, you have Lester as a partner with you. He is not
a good fighter, as his attacks barely cause damage. If you are playing as
Heroine, you have Bogard as a partner with you. With Bogard's help this
fight will be a lot easier, but with Lester as a partner this battle will be
tough. That's why 5/10 as difficulty level. Now for the strategy. The first
form of Vine is ridicilous. He just jumps around and he barely has HP.
Destroy him with some sword slashes and Vine will change form. The second
phase is a lot tougher. Boison Vine's attacks can cause various status
aliments, so avoid the pollen. Ignore the small vine that tries to attack you
physically and start attacking the glowing thing. Soon after the glowing thing
has taken enough damage, it will explode. Jump up the leaf platforms and
this time you have to defeat the flower himself. It would be better to stay on
the ground instead of leaves to avoid the poison gas. If Boison Vine sends
some projectiles at your direction, hit them back at the boss with your sword
to damage him. You can also jump on the leaves and attack with your Bow.
Boison Vine's health is really low when the flower changes colour.

    Boss: Giant Eagle

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Granz Castle

    Difficulty: 3/10

The eagle flies around the rooftop, trying to dive at you. His melee attacks
won't cause too much damage, but the hurricanes he creates cause a lot of
damage and they can inflict Confuse on you. Eagle's most devastating attack is
when he flies over the rooftop, dropping bombs on the roof. Avoid the
explosions at all costs! The best time to attack the Eagle physically is when
he has done his dive attack. That's when he rests a little and it's your time
to attack. For weapon, choose good old sword or lance. Lance is very fast
and it can cause a lot of damage in a short amount of time. On the other
hand, sword is stronger, but just equip whatever you like.

    Boss: Dark Lord

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Granz Castle

    Difficulty: 5/10

As soon as the battle starts, immediately run aside to avoid the energy wave
that inflicts Darkness. Dark Lord uses his sword to attack very fast and he
may seem hard for the first time. He can also charge at you with his sword,
inflicting Paralysis. Use obelisks as your cover. The best weapon is lance or
sword, as usual. There really isn't a strategy for this battle as it's just a
sword duel without any special tricks. Keep up with the attacking and you
    should do fine.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
    Boss: Maliris

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Kahla Peaks

    Difficulty: 7/10

Maliris attacks from above, as she hangs from the ceiling like a spider. Her
melee tail attack is not effective, but the frozen ground makes dodging
attacks very hard, as you slide. The most devastating attack of Maliris is
when she uses her freeze ray, which causes massive damage and also freezes
you. Run from side to side to avoid it. The best weapon for this battle is
Flail, Bow or Lance because of their ranges. Maliris has got a lot of health,
so I suggest equipping Lance because it's fast. Later in the battle, Maliris
can drop some icicles down from the ceiling. Keep moving to avoid them!
If you want to use magic, I suggest using Salamander as boss' weakness is
fire. This boss can take time, so be patient while fighting.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
    Boss: Kraken

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Subland River

    Difficulty: 5/10

Kraken can be tough if you're not prepared. The area is large and there are
lots of pools where Kraken and his tentacles come out. his tentacles do great
damage, so when you see a tentacle glowing retreat as it tries to throw you,
causing huge damage and inflicting Confuse. The best way to avoid the
tentacles is to stay at the upper-right corner. Kraken will also release some
fishes that bounce around the area. The fishes can be pain, so take them out
so they won't be bothering you. Kraken himself has an attack where he shoots
an ink projectile at you, causing moderate damage and inflicting Darkness.
The best reasons why to stay in the upper-right corner is that tentacles cant
reach you easily and Kraken himself mainly appears in the pool nearest to
the upper-right corner, giving you a good chance to attack him easily with
sword or lance. If you are a magic type, Salamander is once again your choice
    because Kraken's element is water.

    Boss: Ifrit

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Subsea Volcano

    Difficulty: 6/10

Boy, this boss fight sure takes time! The area is large, filled with lava so
avoid the lava pools the best you can. Don't touch Ifrit as he is covered in
fire. Ifrit's fireball and melee attacks are easy to avoid, but things get
tough when Ifrit sends his head flying around the whole area. The head
causes major damage, but there's a way to avoid it and it's not risky at all.
Stay as close to the covered Mana sword as you can, head can't reach there.
Soon the head returns back to body. allowing you to attack. Ifrit has got
extremely high defence for melee attacks as well as for magic attacks, so it
will take a while to defeat him. Water spirit can cause good damage, but I
don't suggest wasting your MP for that. Once again, the best weapon for this
fight is good old sword. If you want to hit Ifrit fast, equip Knuckles. This
battle will take time, but be patient.

    Boss: Lich

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Sealed Cave

    Difficulty: 7/10

Lich's most powerful attack is his lance. It mainly spins around Lich,
preventing you from getting close to him. Keep distance away from the lance
and focus on avoiding the fireballs Lich sends. The fireballs go where you go,
but they last only 3-4 moves, then they disappear. Whenever you want to
attack Lich, wait until his lance is gone for awhile. The best weapon for this
fight is lance. Lance can deal a lot of damage on Lich in a short amount of
time, so make sure to equip it. When you get a chance to attack Lich, hit
him with your lance only 4-5 times as Lich's lance appears again and it causes
great damage. Cast Wisp to heal whenever needed, because this is a tough
    battle.

    Boss: Demagon

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Mana Sanctuary

    Difficulty: 5/10

To start off, don't start climbing the roots, just stay on the ground. If you
climb up the roots near Demagon's head, he will slash you, so better stay on
the ground. Demagon shoots four fireballs at the ground, but you should be
able to dodge them easily. He can also send some small energy balls at you.
If you get hit by the fireballs, you will start burning, preventing casting
magic and attacking. To get rid of burning, tap the attack button. See the
dragon's tail? It can whip you if you're not careful, but it doesn't cause too
much damage. Start casting Luna magic on the tail to cause a lot of damage.
Weapons barely cause damage on the tail, so use Luna magic. Make sure to
save MP to cast Wisp if your health gets low, though! Later in the battle,
Demagon eventually inflicts Stop on you, and it cannot be avoided. Wait until
the Stop is gone, then immediately heal if Demagon managed to hurt you while
under Stop. Remember; Demagon has got a lot of health, so once again, be
    very patient!

    Boss: Julius I

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Mana Temple

    Difficulty: 4/10

Julius' first form is not too tough. To start off, Julius summons Ox enemies
who will attack you. Ignore the whole bunch of them, because they won't attack
unless you get too close. If the Oxes are really getting trouble, it would be
better to take them out, as they go down pretty quickly. Julius himself uses
magic attacks. He casts a fire bomb which can inflict Burn on you, preventing
you from attacking and casting magic. Julius can protect himself with a blue
barrier. With the blue barrier he cannot be harmed with physical attacks, but
can be harmed with magic. If he creates an orange barrier, magic can't damage
him, but physical attacks can. Julius teleports around a lot, so whenever he
comes down, attack him with your sword. Try to defeat Julius quickly as he
may summon Irwin, damaging you a lot and it cannot be avoided. Anyway, he is
    not too tough.

    Boss: Julius II

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Mana Temple

    Difficulty: 5/10

The second form has more HP than the first one, but he is not very tough. As
soon as the battle starts, Julius will create clones of himself. Wait until
the clones disappear to see real Julius, then attack him! Julius' second form
has got some new tricks. When he is surrounded by flames, he is going to cast
a lava wave at you. Lava wave causes either Prettification or Burn. When
Julius is surrounded by blue flames, he is going to cast ice storm. It can
either cause Silence or Freeze. Both of these spells are quite challenging
to avoid, but fortunately, they don't cause too much damage. Near the end of
the battle, Julius can use Galaxy Drain, which drains half of your HP to
Julius. Unfortunately, it cannot be avoided. Try to finish Julius off before
    he casts Galaxy Drain.

    Boss: Julius III

    Playable as: Hero, Heroine

    Location: Limbo

    Difficulty: 7/10

The final battle of the game is tough and long. To start off, Julius uses
continous attack. Run to the side of the screen to avoid huge damage and
Poison inflict. Julius floats back and forth at the top of the screen. If he
creates a blue barrier, he cannot be harmed with physical attacks If he
creates an orange barrier, he cannot be harmed with magic. Julius can also use
a charge attack where he charges through the screen twice. This may inflict
Sleep, but it's rather easy to avoid. The best time to attack Julius is when
he's casting spells or when he's takes a little rest after he has attacked. As
you take health from him, he gets faster and progressively harder. When his
health is getting low, he starts using meteor. Meteor cannot be avoided, and
it takes about 70% of your maximum health. Always keep your health up to
avoid getting killed by it. The best weapon for this fight is sword, bow or
lance. Julius has got high defence and a great amount of HP, so the battle
will be very long. Julius is not terribly hard, but he's challenging enough.
