FAQ! Though it may not be 100% complete, it is very close and can be considered
a comprehensive list. Information on topics such as gameplay, basic item stats,
runes and so forth is outside of the subject matter of this FAQ and can be
found elsewhere.

RotK's Diablo-style item system is deep, but simple. First, a diagram:

This is a rough approximation of the in-game equipment screen. Virtually every
item in the game can be equipped in one of those categories for a stat increase
or decrease. When generated, each item has a chance of carrying a single prefix
and a single suffix, each of which have some effect on the stats of the item. 

Every prefix is part of a designated pool, and each pool is attached to certain
categories of items, listed below:

-Armor, Shields & Headgear
-Weapons
-Staffs & Bows
-Accessories
-Cloaks
-Gloves & Shoes

An item will never have a prefix from outside of its designated pool. For
example, a Peculiar Serrated Sword cannot exist because Peculiar is from the
Accessories pool and the Serrated Sword is a Weapon. Hardened Boiled Leather is
fine, however, because Hardened is from the Armor, Shields & Headgear pool and 
Boiled Leather is a piece of Armor. Some prefixes appear across multiple
categories of equipment, such as Eowyn's which appears in the Weapons, 
Accessories, and Gloves & Shoes pools, but gives different bonuses in each.

All suffixes may be attached to any item from any category. It is entirely
possible to get an axe that provides an armor bonus, or a suit of chainmail
that increases damage through suffixes.

Most modifiers will only appear in certain areas of the game. Spectral
equipment is found in the Paths of the Dead, whereas an item of the Dark Lord
will likely be found in Ithilien. Bonus maps generally provide a much wider
variety of modifiers and items at once.

Similarly, most of the more useful modifiers will only appear on the Hard or
Grueling difficulties. Information on the location and required difficulty for
each modifier is not included within the guide, due to the difficulty of 
obtaining such data for each entry.

The name of an item with a prefix appears green, and one with a suffix appears
red. Unmodified items are yellow. The exceptions to this rule are the ancient 
items unlocked through the GBA-GCN connection, which always appear in blue
regardless of modification, and unique items, which cannot be modified and also
appear blue.

Some prefixes for weapons, staffs, and bows will provide extra graphical
effects. These are normally noted, though it is likely that I have missed some.

A few modifiers have additional notes due to some aspect of them that seems odd
or questionable. These are explained when possible.

Though most of the stats are fairly self-explanatory, some of them are not.
Here is every possible bonus that any given modifier can add, and an
explanation. Bonuses with a +/- may be found as either an increase or decrease
for that stat. Bonuses with only a + are only found as increases, and bonuses
with only a - are only found as decreases.

+/- x Strength: Alters the Strength stat by x. Strength directly affects the 
                damage range and slightly increases HP.

+/- x Accuracy: Alters the Accuracy stat by x. Accuracy increases the To Hit %
                substat which determines how often your attacks succeed.

+/- x Health: Alters the Health stat by x. Health increases HP by 4 and SP by 1
              for every point.

+/- x Defense: Alters the Defense stat by x. Enemy attacks are rolled against
               your Defense stat to check for success.

+/- x Courage: Alters the Courage stat by x. Courage increases HP by 1 and SP
               by 4 for every point.

+/- x All Primary Stats: Alters all five main stats by x.

+/- x Hit Points: Alters HP by x. HP determines how much damage you can take
                  before death.

+/- x Hit Points per Slain Foe: Gives x HP for every enemy killed.

+   x Hit Points Regen: Increases the HP regeneration rate by x.

+/- x Spirit Points: Alters SP by x. All active skills consume some amount of
                     SP when used.

+   x Spirit Regen: Increases the SP regeneration rate by x.

+/- x Damage: Alters the base damage stat by x.

+   x Melee Damage: Adds x damage to all melee attacks.

+   x Fire Damage: Adds a potential x damage to all attacks.

+   x Damage to Animals: Adds x damage to all attacks on spiders, wolves,
                         birds, and other animal monsters.

+   x Damage to Orcs: Adds x damage to all attacks on monsters classified as
                      Orcs.

+   x Damage to Nazgul: Adds x damage to all attacks on Nazgul.

+/- x Melee Armor: Alters the Melee Armor stat by x. Melee Armor reduces the
                   damage taken when a direct attack hits.

+/- x Missile Armor: Alters the Missile Armor stat by x. Missile Armor reduces
                     the damage taken from projectiles when they hit.

+   x Critical Armor: Increases the Critical Armor stat by x. Critical Armor
                      reduces the damage taken from a critical hit, which
                      normally ignores all other defenses.

+   x Fire Protection: Reduces the damage taken from flaming projectiles by x.

+   x Wisdom: Increases the damage of Gandalf's magic in the same way as his
              Wisdom skill.

+   x% Dodge: Increases the Dodge substat by x. Dodge is another layer of
              defense against all attacks.

+   x% Shield Block: Increases the Shield Block substat by x%. Shield Block is 
                     another layer of defense. It is found only as a default
                     bonus on all shields, and is not part of any modifier.

+/- x% Speed: Alters the character's movement speed by x%.

+   x% Critical: Adds an x% chance of doing a critical hit to all attacks.

+/- x% Fear Resistance: Alters the SP drain rate caused by fear by x%. A higher
                        bonus results in a slower drain.

+   x% Poison Resistance: Alters the HP drain rate caused by poison by x%.

+   x% Experience Bonus: Gives an extra x% of experience on top of all exp
                         gained.

+   x% Extra Treasure: Increases the chance of finding items and modified items
                       by x%.

  - x% Corruption Resistance: Increases the rate at which the Eye of Sauron
                              grows.

Valuable: Increases the item's cash value significantly.

Cheap: Lowers the item's cash value significantly.

Gemfinder: Increases the amount of gems found in each pile.

Sunburst: Gives each attack a chance of causing a golden aura to appear which
          stuns all enemies it touches.

Nightburst: Gives each attack a chance of causing a dark aura to appear which
            damages all enemies it touches.

Fireburst: Gives each attack additional fire damage.

Backstab: Increases damage if enemies are attacked from behind.

Armor Piercing: Attacks ignore the armor of enemies.

Immobilize: Attacks temporarily stun enemies.

Venomous: Attacks poison enemies.

Knockback: Gives each attack a chance of pushing enemies back if it connects.

Fragile: Weapon has a chance of breaking with every attack.

Cursed: Exact effect unknown. Believed to increase the damage taken, but this 
        is speculation at best.
