Medabots: Metabee
Review by Tails333
"The ultimate Medabots RPG"
Introduction:
The Metabee version of Metabots is one of the best games I have played, even when compared to Pokemon Sapphire and Golden Sun. The game is set during the 22nd Century where children and adults, known as Medafighters, battle against each other with Medabots. Medabots are robots designed to fight other Medabots for rare medals and money. Each Medabot needs a Medal to function properly.
Up to three Medabots can fight together against three other Medabots at once. When you win a battle, you get a Medapart for your Medabot. You also receive some money if you fight other Medafighters. Medabots appear in the wild as well. Defeat them and you will also get a Medapart but you won't get any money.
To assemble a Medabot, you need a Tinpet. A Timpet is the framework or skeleton for a Medabot. You are required to collect multiple Timpets in order to create a Medabot team. There are four types of Medaparts: Legs, left arms, right arms and heads. You can buy Medaparts, but if you want the best or rarest ones, you'll need to win them in Robattles or trade for them.
In order to defeat a Medabot, you must destroy its legs, left arm, right arm and head. Alternatively, if you KO a Medabot's head you will automatically destroy it. The Medals can level up and change shape depending on how many times you use them on your Medabot. Medabots also have a special attack called the Medaforce. By using the Medaforce, you can turn the tables on your opponent if he/she isn't expecting it.
Story:
You play a boy named Ikki Tenryo who lives in the 22nd Century, the year 2122 to be exact. While shopping for his mother, Ikki purchases a Medabot by mistake, and he has no choice but to take it. However, Ikki is now ready to fight Medafighters from the anime like Erika, Samantha and Koji. Not only will he want to become the world's greatest Medafighter but he will also have to contend with the notorious Rubberobo Gang, who plan to steal all the rare medals in the world.
Graphics:
This game has awesome graphics despite the fact that it has been out since December 2002 in the UK. The battle scenes are excellent, even when compared with the recent Pokemon games. Each character looks exactly like their anime counterpart.
Sounds:
The sounds in this game are excellent. Everyone's theme sounds fantastic, especially Koji's, Phantom Renegade's and Dr. Meta-Evil's. The Rubberobo Gang's theme is good as well. Each area's music is perfect. There is no music in this game that is irritating.
Replay Value:
It took me about 30 hours to complete the game, but you can still continue your game. Like the Pokemon games, Medabots allows you to continue playing your game forever. Collecting all the Medaparts and Medals is hard work. This is a game you could play for the rest of your life, and you still mightn't have fully completed it.
Score:
I decided to give Medabots: Metabee version a rating of 8/10. Although it is the best game I have played for a while, there were certain sections of the game that I found frustrating to do. For example, the races require you to keep pressing the buttons constantly to win. It gets annoying when you just want to robattle. If you can get past those tricky sections, you will enjoy this game for months.
