    Hello. My name is Matthew Loewen aka Cryinontheinside aka Ahhhhh Dahhhh Cap'n
    Homsar. I have written only a few other guides, including a guide for Pokemon
    Ruby & Sapphire on abilities, and Yu-Gi-Oh! Worldwide Edition (which can be 
    found at Cheathappens.com). And now, I have taken an interest in what is 
    known as Duel Masters. I watch the show, and I play the card game, and I love
    it! So, I am writing a guide for the first of what I hope will be a series of 
    Duel Masters games, "Duel Masters: Sempai Legends". But you knew that. Enjoy!
    
    
    [3] GAME RULES /=============================================================\
    
    Before you can even start to play the game, you must know how to play the 
    card game that the story revolves around. So, here for your enjoyment, I have
    written a tutorial covering everything you need to know to play the game.
    
    
    A. OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME 
    
    The objective of the game is to summon creatures and cast spells using mana.
    Attack with your creatures. If a creature is not blocked, it breaks a shield.
    Break all five of your opponent's shields, and then attack your opponent 
    directly one time to win the game!
    
    
    B. BEFORE YOU BEGIN
    
    Each player duels with a deck of 40 cards. A player can have up to 4 copies
    of any card in his/her deck.
    
    When a duel begins, each player first places 5 cards next to their decks in 
    a row. These cards are called their Shields.
    
    Then, each player draws 5 more cards to be used as their hand.
    
    
    C. PLAYING A GAME
    
    After you have prepared everything, let the duel begin!
    
    
    I. UNTAP YOUR CARDS
    
    At the beginning of your turn, if you have any tapped creatures/mana, or 
    creatures/mana that have been used the previous turn, untap those cards to 
    indicate that they can be used this turn.
    
    
    II. DRAW A CARD
    
    After Step 1, a player draws 1 card from his/her deck. The player who goes
    first during the game does NOT draw a card. A player loses when he/she draws
    the last card in his/her deck.
    
    
    III. CHARGE MANA
    
    After Step 2, a player has the option of taking 1 card from his/her hand, and
    placing it in his/her Mana Zone. Mana is a pile of cards that can be used to
    summon creatures and cast spells. 
    
    
    IV. SUMMON CREATURES AND/OR CAST SPELLS
    
    After Step 3, a player can summon creatures and/or cast spells from his/her
    hand. 
    
    A creature is a card used to attack your opponent's creatures or shields.
    
    A spell is a card used to alter the gameplay in some way.
    
    There are five different civilizations that a creature/spell can have: Fire, 
    Water, Darkness, Light, and Nature.
    
    When you want to use either type of card, you must pay a certain amount of
    mana to do so. The number at the top-left corner of the description screen
    of a card (press SELECT to bring up the description screen of a highlighted
    card) is the number of Mana cards needed to summon or cast the card. 
    
    When you are using mana to summon or cast a card, at least one of the mana 
    cards must be the same civilization as the card you are trying to summon/cast.
    
    When you use mana, the mana that you use is tapped, or turned sideways, so 
    that it can be indicated that the mana cannot be used again this turn.
    
    An Evolution Creature is a creature that is placed on top of a creature
    already on your side of the battle zone. An Evolution Creature does not 
    get "Summoning Sickness" (more on this in the following section).
    
    
    V. ATTACK WITH YOUR CREATURES
    
    And finally, after Step 4, you go into the Battlefield to do battle with your
    creatures.
    
    A creature cannot attack on the turn that it is summoned, as it has 
    "Summoning Sickness".  
    
    When a creature attacks, it is tapped, or turned sideways, to indicate that
    it cannot attack again this turn.
    
    When a creature attacks, it can either choose to attack one of your opponent's
    TAPPED creatures, or one of your opponent's shields. 
    
    When two creatures battle, the creature with the highest Attack power wins the
    battle. The creature with the lowest attack power is destroyed, and sent to
    the graveyard. If the two creatures have the same attack power, both creatures
    are sent to the graveyard.
    
    When a creature attacks a shield, you may choose the shield that you wish to
    attack. If the creature is not blocked, the shield is broken.
    
    After you have attacked with all of your creatures that you can, or if you do
    not want to attack this turn, your turn ends.
    
    When a shield is broken, the card is sent into your hand. If the card is a 
    "Shield Trigger", you can use the Spell Card immediately without paying any
    mana.
    
    When an "Evolution Creature" is sent to the graveyard or back to your hand,
    the card that the creature evolved from goes with it.
    
    
    D. SPECIAL EFFECTS
    
    Sometimes, a creature card has a special, "built-in" effect that can effect
    its attack, or the game itself. Here is a list of the more common effects, and
    what they do.
    
    DOUBLE BREAKER
    When a creature has this effect, when it attacks your opponent's shields, the
    creature breaks 2 shields instead of 1.
    
    POWER ATTACKER
    When a creature has this effect, when it attacks, the creature's power is 
    increased by a certain amount of points.
    
    BLOCKER
    When a creature has this effect, when your opponent attacks your creatures
    or shields, if this creature is not tapped, you may tap this creature, and
    have this creature battle with the attacking creature instead.
    
    SLAYER
    When a creature has this effect, when this creature loses a battle, the
    destroying creature is destroyed, no matter what the destroying creature's
    attack is. 
    
    EVOLUTION
    A creature with this effect cannot be summoned normally, but can only be 
    placed on top of an appropriate creature in your battle zone. You must still
    pay mana to summon it, however. 
    
    
    [4] CIVILIZATION GUIDE /=====================================================\
    
    Here is a guide to the different civilizations a card can be in.
    
    
    FIRE CIVILIZATION
    
    Fire Civilization cards are all about power. Power and brute force. This 
    explains the fact that there are NO "Blockers" in this set. Also, Fire
    cards don't cost as much as other civilizations, because this civilization
    is also about swift attacks. Cards included in this set include "Deadly 
    Fighter Braid Claw" and "Rothus, The Traveler". 
    
    
    WATER CIVILIZATION
    
    Water cards are described as the more intelligant, more high-tech creatures.
    There are many "Blockers" in this set, to protect your shields many, many
    times. But this set also has many powerful cards to help you defeat your
    opponents quickly. This set includes the rare cards that cannot be blocked
    by your opponent. Cards included in this set include "Tropico" and "King
    Depthcon".
    
    
    LIGHT CIVILIZATION
    
    Light cards are also high-tech and powerful cards. This set includes, like
    water, a lot of "Blockers", but also include a lot of low-cost, effective
    spells. Cards included in this set include "La Ura Giga, Sky Guardian" and
    "Urth, Purifying Elemental".
    
    
    DARKNESS CIVILIZATION
    
    Darkness cards are described as the insane, evil group of creatures. These
    cards cost a little more than other cards, but they can be extremely nasty
    and hard to destroy when they are on the field. This group is the only 
    group with the "Slayer" ability, and the ability to discard cards from a 
    person's hand. Cards included in this set include "Deathliger, Lion of Chaos"
    and "Zagaan, Knight of Darkness".
    
    
    NATURE CIVILIZATION
    
    Nature cards are described as primitive, and low-tech. This group specializes
    in giving a player more mana to summon more and more creatures and cast 
    more and more spells. Cards included in this set include "Bronze-Arm Tribe" 
    and "Deathblade Beetle".
    
    
    [5] QUICK GAME GUIDE /=======================================================\
    
    In the RPG mode of the game, you are an up-and-rising duelist who is given a
    super rare card on your birthday. But, during the night, a mysterious thief
    barges in, and steals it! Now, you must chase this thief, and claim your card
    once again.
    
    Along the way, you must duel other people. When you win a duel, you get a pack
    of 5 cards, along with a certain amount of reputation points. When you gain
    enough points, your reputation level goes up. You must raise your reputation 
    level a lot, because most tournaments will not accept you unless you are at a
    certain level.
    
    And that's the basic gist of the game. Have fun!
