That is the only way to trade from FR to Sapphire is with the link cable. The type of it doesn't matter.

You can trade with a link cable OR a wireless adapter. But you have to get RUBY and SAPPHIRE (Sevii Islands Quest).

You'll need to complete the Network machine on One Island first, and this means collecting the ruby and sapphire items in the game. You'll need to wander around all seven islands to complete this quest. You'll also have to beat the Elite Four before you can go to islands 4-7. After all that, catch at least 60 different types of Pokemon. Then Professor Oak will give you the National Pokedex upgrade, enabling free trade between all games. You shouldnt have too much trouble getting 60 pokes, as long as you are thorough. Just keep exploring every island thoroughly as well, and you'll finish this annoying subquest. Good Luck!
