Question from Sephiroth_24
What is the best water type pokemon in Fire red?
Besides Blastoise cause I chose Charizard.
And other thing, Which would you pick, Moltres, Articuno or Zapsdos?
I wanna choose Gyarados over Lapras. You think it's okay? Or should I use Lapras instead?
This question is open with pending answers, but none have been accepted yet
Lapras, Vaporeon and Kingdra - you can't go wrong with either. Gyarados is good as well, but for more beyond just Water.
Why not take all three? Out of the three, Zapdos is available earlier, and being a lightning Pokemon, has advantages over others of the same type.
Gyarados vs Lapras
Gyarados is a physical attacker which moves include Earthquake, Aerial Ace, Trash, Dragon Dance, etc.
Lapras is a special sweeper which moves include Psychic, Surf, Ice Beam, Amnesia, etc.
If your team mostly consists of physical attacker, choose Lapras, otherwise Gyarados.
actually, it is only how you see it, and in what kind of situation.
vs. normal types, i would prefer Poliwrath, but, of course, with his second type being fighting, he is weak against ground moves..
gyarados is a flying/water type pokemon, so if you fight against electric types, you are really in an dissadvantage, but other attacks may have less effect because of it. (think at grass type moves)
lapras is an ice/water type. with this you have taken the effectiveness of grass type moves, and you have critical hits against them.
it is only in what kind of situation.. with stats i would say blastoise.
Provided you still haven't found what you're looking for:
I would choose Swampert, no question asked. He's pretty much a wall for everything except grass type moves and the reason everything carries HP Grass. Great HP stat, good Attack and (at least in-game) decent Sp. Attack, stellar defenses and a good move pool. Nothing can reach Swampert capacity in Gen 3. Gyarados is still stuck without physical stab, Lapras is becoming too weak in the competition, Vaporeon only works as support nowadays (with non-existent Defense stat) and Blastoise has a laughable move pool. Otherwise Suicune maybe an option, but it has mediocre Sp. Attack and is very predictable with Calm Mind, hence it gets roared out (by, for example, Swampert), and can only recover with Rest after taking a beating.
The best alternative to Swampert is Kingdra, but it lacks the physical stab for its Dragon Dances and can be taken out by many physical attackers.
Are you considering anything else besides what I've mentioned (perhaps not including Milotic, which does work in a few cases) you've not got the hang of it. Poliwrath, Seaking, Tentacruel, Starmie, Kingler, Cloyster, Golduck, Dewgong, Kabutops, Omastar. They all suck in this generation. In Gen 4/5, some of them gained redemption, with some of them turning out great (such as Shell Smash Cloyster and Tentacruel/Starmie for Rapid Spinning) but this generation, they're all but rubbish.
Best Water Pokemon Gyarados is the best water Pokemon he's big, powerful, has a ton of life, learns powerful attacks like Dragon Rage, Thrash, Hyper Beam, and Hydro pump, and his water & flying mix means his only real weakness are electric attacks, plus his ability Intimidation lowers the attack stat of the enemy Pokemon making Gyarados harder to KO. Seadra is a great water type too if you like fast Pokemon. Cloyster, Tentacruel, Lapras, & Omastar are also great.
Lapras and Blastoise
You can prefer using kingdra or lapras- but it's up to you if you want to get a gyarados
Personally, i'd get zapdos as it can learn electric moves and flying moves, and check out it's stats, i don't wanna spoil it. If you'd pick zapdos, i'd choose this move set for it:
You can get both lapras and gyarados though- just raise them until they're the same level and then look for their stats- but personally i'd look for the speed, attack and defense to see if they're really good, because i actually ignore the special stats, but you can do it anyway you want..
Was this helpful? I hope it was.
