    II.   Version Information
    =========================
    
    Version .8- This is the "first" version of my character guide.  It should have
    most of the information that I want in it, but I didn't include any of the
    secret characters.  Plus there's always room for improvement.  I'm also
    contemplating adding weapon levels and tips for each character.
    
    Version .81- Realized I didn't put in all of the recruit times.  Whoops.  Also
    added in the missing support section.
    
    Version .82- Updated using english growth rates and max stats.  Fixed a couple
    of typos.

    III.  Introduction
    ==================
    
    A. Purpose
    ==========
    
    I haven't been playing the fire emblem series for a long time (started with
    FE7), but I've come to enjoy turn based strategy ever since starting.
    
    This is my first attempt at writing a FAQ/Guide so please bear with me.  This
    guide will hopefully allow people to see the strengths of each character and
    understand how to use each of them to their full potential.  To do this my 
    guide will not only take into account their growth rates, but also their
    stat caps, supports, skills, weapons, etc.

    B. Basics
    =========
    This is so you can figure out what I'm talking about, since I'll be implying
    how stats affect your combat characteristics through out this guide.
    
    1. Formulas
    
    These are the formulas to calculate your combat characteristics.
    
    atk = weapon might + strength(or magic) + support bonuses
    def = defense(or resistance) + support bonuses
    hit = 2*skill + luck/2 + support bonuses
    avoid = 2*speed + luck + support bonuses
    crit = weapon crit + skill/2 + support bonuses
    crit evade = luck + support bonuses
    
    attack speed (double attacks if your attack speed is +4 than enemy's speed)
    speed >= attack speed = speed + con - weapon weight
    
    2. Supports
    
    You should check out neonclover's guide for more info.  All I need you to
    understand though is that when support bonuses are calculated they're
    dependent on the two characters' affinities.  The affinities determine what
    type of bonus given, which is abridged in the following table.  Again for more
    information and detail look at one of the support guides.

    IV.   Characters
    ================
    
    This section of the guide will give detailed information on each character.
    This will include when they're recruited, affinity, weapons classes, supports,
    growth rates, starting stats, starting level, promotion growths, final average
    stats, and max stat caps.  I also have a notes section after the information
    which gives advice on how to promote them and why, who to support and why, and 
    any other random thoughts I have on the character.  I'd also like to remind you
    that it's only advice, make up your own decisions since you're the one playing
    the game not me.
    
    Also some extra notes on some of the stats, the average stats are rounded to
    the nearest integer, not rounded down.  Also, the average stats do not take
    into account the stat caps of original classes, so some of the average stats
    may be lower than what is actually shown. You'll also notice that they go above
    the max stats, that's so you can see how much leeway there is in each stat.
    The promotion gains for all of the trainees are also compounded with their
    original promotion gains from turning level 10 in each branch. Finally the
    words underneath a promotion section are skills/weapons gained/lost from the
    promotion if you couldn't figure that out.

    Supports-
    The main characters that I'd look at would be L'Arachel, Ephraim, and Tana.
    Mostly from the fact that all of them are good characters on their own right
    and all of them are also on horse which makes keeping them near each other for
    support levels and supporting easier to do.  I like L'Arachel and Tana more
    than Ephraim because they add to Eirika's def and crit evade respectively
    compared to Ephraim's added avoid which isn't needed.
    
    Other-
    Well... she's built like a swordmaster and acts likes one in a sense.
    With a high skill, speed, and luck she'll be hitting often and with a lot of
    criticals.  She should also be dodging a lot with the high speed and luck which
    helps her mediocare defense and resistance.  The only real downside is the fact
    that she's restricted to swords, not much of a problem, and her low strength,
    also not much of a problem considering her high chance for criticals.
    
    2. Ephraim

    Supports-
    Eirika, L'Arachel, Myrrh, and Tana are all good supports from being good
    characters on there own.  Eirika and L'Arachel are especially good because
    they ride horses, and they're both light affinities.  Light affinities add to
    your atk, def, hit, and crit rate, which will make Ephraim even more of an
    offensive power house considering his stat caps aren't as high as some of the
    Warriors and Beserkers.
    
    Other-
    He's also good like Eirika, probably maxing out his strength, skill, and
    speed.  I wish his caps had been higher though since he's fully capable having
    30's for strength, skill, and speed.  You shouldn't be surprised if he maxes 5
    stat.  His only low stat is res, but with his high mov rate he should be able
    to engage most mages first and gain the first strike which can kill them if
    they're weak or if you hit a critical.  He should have an average avoid of
    74 without supports so most mages will have some trouble hitting him.
    
    B. Armored Lancemen

    Knight->General
    She beats the Paladin class handily as a General only losing in resistance and
    movement.  Not only that but all of her stat caps are higher and only at the
    small price of 4 movement which can be soothed with the use of swiftsoles.
    You also can't forget the use of axes, and the fact that she isn't weak to
    horseslayers/halberds.
    
    Supports-
    Ewan, Neimi, and Ross are all other good characters to support with.  They all
    increase Amelia's offensive capabilities in atk, hit, and crit.  Neimi and
    Ross also increase her already good dodge while Ewan helps her low (for a
    General) defense.
    
    Other-
    Amelia is probably the best lanceman type character you recruit.  Like the
    other recruits her luck is absolutely amazing and paired with a good skl and
    spd she's going to have a lot of success hitting enemies and dodging attacks.
    While I would promote her into a General she doesn't fit the usual General
    growth rates with a pretty low def rate but really good offensive growth rates.
    I wouldn't let her "low" def put you off though as she'll be dodging a lot more
    than your usual General.
    
    4. Duessel

    Supports-
    Amelia and Ephraim are good characters.  Cormag and Ephraim give good offensive
    bonuses to atk, hit, and crit rate.  Knoll gives bonuses to hit, avoid, crit
    rate/avoid.  Amelia gives bonuses to def, avoid, crit rate/avoid.  So if you're
    just looking for good bonuses to make Duessel better I'd go with Ephraim and
    Cormag since his defense is alright but he might have a hard time landing hits
    from his low skl.
    
    Other-
    He's nowhere near as good as Amelia or Forde for the matter.  It's really just
    the fact that he doesn't have very good skl or spd.  The skl is easy to pump
    up with supports but Duessel shouldn't be getting in that many double attacks
    so you're better off using either brave weapons, which take advantage of his
    high con, or killer weapons with crit rate bonuses from supports to try and hit
    with one big haymaker.
    
    5. Forde

    Paladin
    Either more hp(1), str(1), con(2) and axes or more skl(2) and mov(2).  I'd go
    with the paladin if you don't plan on abusing stat-ups.  Axes aren't needed
    since you already have two weapon classes, as for lower caps...  If you don't
    use stat-ups Forde will barely max out two stats so the lower caps don't really
    matter.  If you are using stat-ups then I'd go with the Great Knight for more
    potential in str, def, and res.
    
    Supports-
    Ephraim and Eirika are both good characters on their own.  As for getting good
    bonuses I'd go with Eirika and Franz since both of them are light affinities
    which gives Forde a boost in atk, def, hit, and crit rate, which will help his
    offensive capabilities considering his str isn't as high as the other knights.
    Kyle and Vanessa are both suited more to defensive bonuses with def, avoid, and
    crit evade if you want to make Forde more of a tank.
    
    Other-
    Forde is probably the most balanced knight but that works out well since
    Paladins and Great Knights both have pretty low caps and spread out promotion
    gains.  He's still only an average character though, nothing bad about him,
    just not that good either.
    
    6. Franz

    Great Knight
    For the better promotion gain (+1 hp, +1 str, +2 con comparatively).  Even
    though Franz has a really high speed growth the Paladin class doesn't have a
    higher speed cap to take advantage of it.  So instead the extra con from the
    Great Knight will allow him to use heavier weapons faster.  I know he doesn't
    move as fast as a Paladin but he's at the perfect pace as most people on foot
    which will be good for some of his supports.  Keep in mind he will be weak to
    both armor/horseslayer type weapons now.
    
    Supports-
    All of his supports are pretty good as far as the other characters go, but I'd
    look at using Forde and Natasha.  Forde is a wind affinity and adds to all of
    Franz's offensive capabilities with special note on his hit which is sort of
    lacking.  Natasha on the other hand is an ice affinty and adds to Franz's def,
    hit, avoid, and crit evade.  Again we're adding more to his hit, and we're
    focusing more on his defense since his is average at best with his average
    luck, low spd cap, and average defense stats.
    
    Other-
    Franz is one of the better cavaliers with more str and spd than Forde but less
    skl.  Having a low skl isn't as bad as having bad str and spd though because
    it's easier to hit enemies anyways, and supports add to his hit easily
    conidering he's already a light affinty which adds to his hit.
    
    7. Gilliam

    General
    Better stat gains and caps across the board, excluding movement.  That and he
    can glow with his Great Shield skill.  Oh, no more fearing the horseslayer
    either.
    
    Supports-
    Neimi is good, but most of his other supports are average, though Franz and
    Moulder are decent (good if you like those type of characters I guess).  For
    good bonuses I'd go for a lot of offense since Gilliam has the best defense in
    the game.  That means Neimi, Franz, and Garcia.
    
    Other-
    Gilliam's good by himself but once you add some supports to him he becomes
    better with the offense boost by his supports.  His only lacking area is his
    speed and his lack of generating double attack.
    
    8. Kyle

    Mmm, k, so he has good strength and doesn't need any atk... his defense is
    decent so def isn't really needed... his skill is sorta low so we should boost
    that... his speed and luck aren't that high so some avoid and crit rate would
    be good too...  That means Efraim as a fire affinity would be good...  Hmm...
    I guess Colm would be good too with his boost to hit and crit rate.
    
    Other-
    So I think that Kyle is good. His only really low stat is his skl but that's
    made better with supports.  Of course he's still in weak classes which hurts
    him more than his ordinary growth rates.

    Eirika and Natasha are good supportable characters that are good by themselves.
    I would look for supports that help his avoid and crit evade since he doesn't
    have the hit points to survive a big critical or multiple big hits in one
    round.  Which makes Natasha a number one candidate since she improves both.
    After that is Garcia and Cormag who help his avoid along with all of the
    offensive bonuses.
    
    Other-
    I'm apt to agree with some of those Seth fanboys, but I still have some
    reservations about his hit points.  I like the fact that he has more luck then
    the rest of the cavaliers to help him with his other average stats.  It's just
    whether or not he's durable enough to be someone that can stay on the front
    line.

    Ewan and L'Arachel and just heal him all the time.  If you do want to go with
    more hit and avoid go with Garcia(fire) and Rennac(dark).

    He's not that good.  He's very much what I'd like to call a "glass sword" he'll
    hit really hard but don't be surprised if he shatters from his low dodge, 
    though he does have a good amount of hit points to give him a margin of error.
    I still say go with Ross.

    Because the strength cap is 5 points higher and Garcia can use all 5 points.
    He does lose 2 speed but sorta gains it back with 2 con, granted at 14 con to
    start with he doesn't really need more (Steel axe weighs 15, Brave axe weighs
    16.)  Other than that he has better offensive caps and better defensive
    promotion gains.  I guess bows are good too.
    
    Supports-
    For bonuses I'd supplement his low speed which means low avoid and
    lower chances of double attacks with a higher avoid and crit rate.  That means
    everyone but Seth who is all about the defense for his bonuses.  Definetly look
    at Neimi though to back him up with her bow or Gilliam to help stockade a
    corridor.  You can't forget about Ross either since he's a fire affinity, you
    can never go wrong with fire.
    
    Other-
    Garcia is good if you just look inside the infantry branch.  Good hp, str, skl,
    and decent luck.  He could use some help in the defense department though with
    his low speed and average defense values.  I also like the fact that he's a
    fire affinity, which is my favorite support affinity, for anyone that supports
    him.

    The main difference between the Ranger and Hero is that the Hero gets more
    more speed with a higher promotion gain and more con, granted the Ranger does
    have a higher cap it doesn't come into play as Gerik won't reach anywhere near
    that cap naturally.  The Ranger does have a movement and defense edge on the
    Hero, but Rangers shouldn't be getting hit in the hirst place and Gerik's
    defense/resistance as a hero are much better than he'll ever need them to be.
    As for the loss of using bows, instead you get to use swordslayers and
    tomahawks which are more versatile.
    
    Supports-
    Gerik is so good he doesn't need any supports.  Actually his str isn't that
    that high from his cap.  His luk and spd are only decent so he could use the
    support bonuses for atk, avoid, and crit rate the most.  Which means a fire,
    wind, or light, affinity.  That means Joshua, Ross, Saleh, and Tethys.  I like
    Tethys since Gerik will always be a good choice for a second attack.  Joshua
    and Ross are good characters on their own so either one would be good but I
    think that Ross would have more effectiveness from Gerik's thunder affinity.
    
    Other-
    I'm definetly partial to characters that can wield more that one type of 
    weapon, are fast, and have good supports.  I mean he won't max out all of his
    stats like some of the other characters but his stats are still good.  Though
    some more speed would be nice along with a higher str cap, but then he'd be too
    good.

    Jeez, six supportable characters and the "worst" individual is Vanessa, which
    is saying something.  The only bad thing is that he's not a good character on
    his own and ice affinity is weak for supporting other characters with already
    good speed and skill.  Anyways, you'll want to pump up his str and crit.  You
    shouldn't really care about his defense since snipers should never be in any
    real danger that his speed and luck can't dodge him out of.  That means
    Eirika(light), L'Arachel(light), Joshua(wind), and Tana(wind) are at the top of
    the list.
    
    Other-
    His stats just aren't good enough, Neimi as a ranger beats all of his stats
    other than res(whoop-dee-doo) and con(made up by 7 more spd).  He does have one
    good thing going for him though...  He has so many supports with good
    characters he can complete support "rings".  Still I don't think that's a good
    enough reason to actually use him with Neimi around.  Though as a second
    string archer he'd be good, if you aren't using a warrior already at least.

    More defense, better speed cap, more mov, more con, and a sword, instead of one
    point in str and a couple of useless skills (sureshot is totally useless your
    skill should already be giving you more than a decent chance to hit.)  The
    sniper class just isn't that good without Rebecca or 5 ballistas on every map.
    
    Supports-
    I usually like to balance out, with supports, but because my battleplan for
    Neimi is all about attack I figured I'd keep it that way with more offensive
    pairings.  This means getting either a higher crit rate or atk.  I would have
    liked to use someone that could keep up with Neimi mov wise but that's not
    possible, so I figure some of the best options would be to use Amelia or
    Gilliam as a shield for Neimi because both are good Generals and thunder
    affinities which increase her crit rate.  Garcia would be better with his fire
    affinity but I don't think he's as good a character as Gilliam or Amelia.
    
    Other-
    When you use a Ranger you should be focused on using their superior movement
    and dual weapons to charge in, hit twice without being hit back (use a ranged
    or melee weapon depending on what you're attacking), and kill the opponent in
    that first round so they don't even have the chance to counter-attack during
    their next turn.  This is why speed and skill are so important to rangers, so
    that they can get in two attacks most of the time with a good chance to
    critical.  This is why I like her as a Ranger over Gerik, with her better spd
    and skl stats.

    This was a hard decision between Warrior and Beserker.  I knew Ross wouldn't
    make a very good Hero because his strength wasn't being totally utilized and
    his speed was so slow that instead of aiming for two small hits I'd rather go
    with one haymaker.  That's why I went with a Beserker for the high str cap and
    the extra +20% crit.  I'm worried about how low his skill is though for trying
    to land his haymaker, but then again his luck is pretty much ungodly for a
    fighter.  I'm also worried about his defense since his defense and resistance
    aren't very high and his dodge won't be incredible since he still has a low
    speed.  Again, hopefully his luck will turn that stat around too.
    
    Supports-
    I'd consider getting Ross' hit and avoid up considering his skl and spd are
    lacking.  Having a defense boost would help with consistency too.  You can't
    get all those bonuses on the same support with Ross though, so I think if you
    split it between two characters it'll work out well.  For that I'd pick one
    thunder affinity in Amelia or Gerik for def and avoid, and use Ewan for def
    and hit.  When you consider the fact that Ross is a fire affinity and light
    and thunder affinities both increase your crit rate, plus Ross can get an extra
    20% for being a Beserker he should be criting almost all the time.
    
    Other-
    Ross with the proper supports as a Beserker can be one of the most explosive
    characters with 30 str and an amazing ability to critical at will with good
    supports as a Beserker.  He will definetly be on my LA team with a swordslayer
    in hand because my cousin loves to use multiple swordmasters and assassins on
    his teams.

    Just for the utility.  Both have the same stat caps and almost the same
    promotion gains, so it comes down to Silencer vs Steal/Lockpick.  Considering
    Colm's stats; his luck is high enough to supplement his skill for chance to hit
    and should give him a decent chance to critical and use his silencer.  The
    thing though is the fact that you've got two other characters that can be
    Assassins (Marisa and Joshua) and only one prepromote Rogue (Rennac) who isn't
    a very good rogue when he's compared to Colm.  So I'll take Colm as a Rogue.
    
    Supports-
    His supports bonuswise aren't very good considering he wants more str and def,
    granted he helps himself with being a light affinity.  So you can focus on
    using Colm as a roleplayer to help the other characters more with his supports
    that means he's good for Marisa and Neimi who need that extra boost in atk and
    in their crit rates.
    
    Other-
    Colm's good, he may not have as much skl as the other swordmasters but his luck
    sort of makes up for it.  While I've been tooting him as a utility and role
    player Colm should hold his own in combat with good hit%, atk, and a decent
    chance to crit most of the time after supports.

    Extra str and con instead of hp and res.  That and higher stat caps and +20%
    crit which are better than silencer when you think about how many more enemies
    you can kill just by hitting a plain critical 20% more of the time.
    
    Supports-
    The best defense for most swordmasters is a good offense.  What's dead can't
    hurt you (well as long as it's dead and not undead...)  He should already be
    dodging a lot with his spd, so you can focus on his str and add more to his
    crit rate with supports. L'Arachel is a good choice with her light affinity.
    After that though it's almost all ice affinities which are mostly good for
    defense.  So I guess I'd go with Gerik(thunder) for an extra boost to my crit
    rate, or you can look at it with a different view of giving someone else
    Joshua's affinity(wind) which is very offensive.  A good candidate would be
    Marisa who is a good character with a rather low str.
    
    Other-
    While Joshua tends to be more consistent statistically against Marisa I give

    However if you do want to use an Assassin I'd use Marisa because she has a high
    luck which means more hits and more chances for the silencer to activate.
    
    Supports-
    Go with Tethys, Joshua, Tana, or Colm since fire, wind, and light affinities
    are very offensive and that's all Marisa needs in her arsenel; more firepower.
    If you want defense you can only go with Gerik who still adds to the offense
    with more crit rate.  So there's no wrong choice for Marisa with only good
    characters to choose from and only good affinities to choose from.
    
    Other-
    Probably the best swordsman in the game with her massive skl, spd, and luk.
    Not to mention the extra 20% critical rate.  Not much I can say against her
    other than the fact that she has an ice affinity which shafts over most of the
    people that she supports with.  Even her low con is perfect at 7 which is the
    same weight as a killing edge...  Almost too perfect... the programmers must
    have been in cahoots with the Marisa fanboys.

    This is almost a toss up when you consider that you're only gaining 3 str and
    losing 5 res.  I'd say that Bishops might be better during the story mode since
    they have slayer which helps against monsters and supplements their lower str.
    Sages are going to be more consistent though and I think anima magic tends to
    be better than light magic.  Plus if you abuse stat-ups then the higher
    offensive caps will work out better compared to the Bishop's already maxed
    stats.
    
    Supports-
    I hate ice affinities, who cares about defensive support gains?  I want to
    crit 120% of the time, with iron weapons, so that I have a chance at a double
    crit or 9 times regular damage </sarcasm>.  Seriously though, his luck isn't
    that good so I would try to help his avoid and his crit rate/avoid.  Each of
    his supports help him in two of those areas but I think that Lute stands out
    with her additional bonuses to str and def.  I'm not sure if you want to pair
    up two mages together though.  As far as logistics go Joshua is the best
    choice as he's the only melee character that has the same movement as Artur,
    so Artur can stay one step behind and attack or heal depending on the
    situation.
    
    Other-
    Good stats with all the right stat growths in the right placecs.  He also has
    good options in his supports.  The only bad thing about him is that he's an
    affinity which usually isn't as helpful as a fire/wind/light affinity and his
    luck is essentially garbage.

    You have a lot more options for Sage and Mage Knight than you do for Druids and
    Summoners.  Druids also take advantage of Ewan's high str and give him a better
    speed boost and con boost than a anima mage would give.  Summoners are nice
    but Ewan's summons don't matchup to Knoll's and you're losing 2 points of str.
    The anima magic also gives Ewan a few lighter tomes to wield compared to the
    heavy dark ones.  It does seem weird to have a light affinity character play
    the dark side though.
    
    Supports-
    Ewan is a good enough character that supports can't really make him much
    better.  His defense could use a boost but his dodge ability should already be
    good enough.  He already has really good offensive stats too so those don't
    really need to be boosted either.  I guess I'd look for some crit evade and
    some defense, or for someone else that can use his light affinity.  With that
    in mind I'd go with Amelia(thunder, adds to def and crit evade) and Ross who
    can use the offense from a light affinity.  They're both melee characters on
    foot too which helps logistics.
    
    Other-
    His stats are really good, only lacking in hp, skl, and def.  The hp and def
    don't really matter when you look at his dodge and skl is easy to live without
    when you have supports and two attacks with the lighter anima tomes.  Ewan is
    also a very key character as he's the only other dark mage you obtain other
    than Knoll, and since Knoll isn't that good... Ewan becomes your first choice
    Druid most of the time.

    His stats aren't good enough to put him on the front lines as a battling mage
    and his summons are better than Ewan's.  The stat gains are a negligible
    difference and the stat caps dont really matter since he won't reach that many
    of them.

    He doesn't really have much choice.  It becomes more of a "who do I not want
    to support?"  Which comes down to Duessel because he's not a very good
    character compared to Lute and Natasha, and you still have a anima affinity
    in Lute still.  And when you think about it, it's still pretty bad that you're
    going to be supporting three mages together(at least it's one of each type).
    
    Other-
    Knoll's not very good, but his summons don't depend on his stats and summoning
    doesn't require him to do anything, so if you have to use him, use him as a
    summoner and keep him on the back lines as a healer.

    the stat gains and caps are identical except for 1 extra res which won't really
    matter.  So it comes down to whether you need Light magic or Anima magic on
    your team.
    
    Supports-
    With good skl, spd, and luk, you don't have to worry about her hit and avoid.
    So instead you can focus on bringing up her atk and def, which works out since
    she's already a light affinity.  That also makes Eirika(light) a good choice.
    For her other support I'd go with Ephraim(fire) to help her atk more and from
    the fact that he's also on horse and gives her a second support with a melee
    character.
    
    Other-
    L'Arachel is one of those characters that is too good not to use.  Her hp and
    def are low but she can dodge with a really good spd and luk.  The only bad
    thing about her are her promotion choices as both have rather low stat caps
    that don't get all of L'Arachel's potential.

    You can't ignore a 5 point drop in str just so you can ride a pony.  The extra
    2 con would be nice but Lute already has decent speed so hopefully it doesn't
    matter.  Her offensive caps are also higher as a Sage too.

    Lute can use some help with her hit and because she has such low hit points
    I'd look for some crit evade, just incase.  So I'd go for Kyle since he's
    the right affinity(ice), moves at the same rate, and can use a healer from
    his low dodging ability.  Other than that there's Artur, but I don't like
    pairing mages together so I'd rather go with Ross who can also use a healer
    though he doesn't get much from Lute's anima affinity.
    
    Other-
    Lute has the strongest str of any mage being the only female sage.  This comes
    with its drawbacks though because she doesn't have that much hp or defense.
    She should have a good dodge, but I'd still try and keep her behind a big
    character to give her some protection.

    He gets better promotion gains with an extra str and skl.  He does lose a hp
    (no big deal) and a point in spd due to a low cap.  He also has higher
    defensive caps though they won't come into play.  I'd probably switch my mind
    to a Sage if you're going to abuse stat-ups due to more growth room in the
    offensive categories.  You also can't forget the use of Slayer if you're
    going to play the story.
    
    Supports-
    He needs some offense with his low str and luk.  I wouldn't worry about
    defense since he has a lot hp and good speed.  So I'd look for a fire/wind/
    light affinity, but you only have Colm(light) and the rest are defensive
    affinities.  I'd probably go with Gilliam next as his affinity at least gives
    Moulder a crit boost, and he can use a healer in Moulder too.
    
    Other-
    Moulder has some of the most offbeat stats.  I mean a mage that has a lot hp
    and a really high con is sorta unsual.  That and the fact that his res is low
    and his str is really low compared to the rest of the mages in FE8.  I mean I
    guess it'll all even out, but I haven't had the time to actually play him yet
    and see how well it does actually even out.

    try to increase her atk and def, so I'd pick either anima or light affinities
    in Franz and Seth.  This works out well since they can use a healer especially
    if you make her into a Valkyrie which will give her the same mov rate as them.
    
    Other-
    She's a decent character on her own, but when it comes to supports she doesn't
    have a good affinity and she doesn't support a lot of the characters I like to
    use since I don't really like the cavaliers and I'm not a fan of Knoll.  If you
    do like to use Franz, Seth, and Knoll (all decent characters) she might fit
    your teams better than she fits into mine.

    Mmm, a good support affinity in wind and she has some nice options in Eirika,
    Ewan, Gerik, and Myrrh.  Saleh though isn't a very strong character and will
    need some good support help to make her decent.  I'd try to maximize her crit
    rate since her luk and str are so low and then forget about defense because
    you can have other characters protect her out on the field.  To do this I'd
    go with Eirika(light) and Myrrh(wind).  I would have gone with Ewan, but I'm
    not a fan of bunching my mages together since I like to have them spread out
    to heal different people over the map.
    
    Other-
    I think Saleh is one of the weakest mages in the game along with Knoll.  If
    you do use her you're going to have to use some more tactical prowess to keep
    her alive and to use her effectively against the enemy.  I'd much rather deal
    with Lute and her bad supports just from the fact that she's a stronger
    character.

    Just from the extra speed and the pierce since the Wyvern Lord wins all the
    other categories with more hp, str, def, con, swords...  The fact that the
    extra speed means more attacks for pierce to activate though is too good to
    pass up.

    Mmm, Tana, she flies and gives offensive support bonuses.  Then whoever else
    needs a fire affinity since everyone wants to buddy up with them fire people.
    
    Other-
    Tana is essentially better but Cormag has better hp and con.  He's a decent
    option as your second string flyer when compared to Vanessa though with a
    better affinity and better support options.

    Vanessa is definetly a good choice adding to Syrene's atk and def.  Other than
    that I'd go with Tana for more offense and a flying unit that can keep up.
    Plus, triangle attack go!  (Tana or Vanessa has to be a Falcoknight)

    Her stats are only average at best not maxing anything but she does have the
    best res of any non-magic character so she could be used as a magekiller
    swooping down from the sky to chop off some puny mage's head off.  Granted
    with such a low str that might be hard to do.  She would have been so much
    better with 5 more levels or better starting stats.

    Did I mention something about Pierce with more speed (even con this time too)
    winning out over everything else?  Granted a Falcoknight has less to offer than
    the Wyvern Lord; lower caps, and only +2 hp and some defense, compared to the
    knight not the lord.

    Eirika and Ephraim with their offensive bonuses and horses.  I love having
    a group of people on horse that can flank the enemy or can race ahead to steal
    something or rescue someone.
    
    Other-
    Tana is by far your best flying unit only losing to Vanessa in skl, Syrene in
    res, and to Cormag in hp, str, def but she wins out with 15 more luk.  Tana is
    one of those characters that is too good to let go.

    See Tana.  I also want to say that Falcoknight were sorta nerfed from FE7.
    Because Pegasus Knights can promote into Wyvern characters I think they weren't
    allowed to have high resistances since Wyvern's are supposed to have low res.
    I remember my Falcoknights from FE7 were my mage killers with their high mov
    and res, now Falcoknights seem very ordinary.
    
    Supports-
    She just doesn't have that good a support affinity in anima and all of her
    options are other average characters.  For bonuses she only needs more atk,
    def, and crit evade(so I guess her anima affinity actually works out well this
    time).  I'd go with Forde who could actually use an anima affinity and from the
    fact that he can keep up mov-wise with Vanessa.  Then I'd go with Lute who is
    also an anima affinity and doesn't have that many support options like
    Vanessa.
    
    Other-
    Vanessa is a good character except that her strength is so low.  Her hp and
    def are low too but at least her speed and luk can get her by with some dodge.
    I also don't like the fact that she supports with Lute who doesn't support
    with anyone else good except for Ross (Artur excluded since there's no reason
    for two sages).

    VI.   Team Strategies
    =====================
    
    One of the biggest problems I have with most character guides is that they only
    give you statistics, this section is for all the newbs so they can get a jump
    start on how to really build a good party.
    
    I'll go through a few kew points and then walk out how I came up with my team
    as an example.
    
    Key points of a good overall team are that they:
    1. Should work together
         So everyone should have full supports when everything is done
    2. Should be balanced
         So there's not going to be 3 swordmasters on my team
    3. Should move together
         Supports are easier to obtain when they move at the same rate so one
         character can't outstrip the other
    4. Should be able to break into versatile groups
         A good team can split up and each team should hold their own
    5. Should be manageable
         So I'm shooting for 12-16 people not 30 people on the team
    
    With these keyes in mind I'll pick 8 or so people that are too good to pass up
    to put on my team and the look around the other characters to fill in any gaps.
    
    I'll start with:
    Eirika
    Ephraim
    Amelia-General
    Ross-Beserker
    Ewan-Druid
    Gerik-Hero
    Tana-Wyvern Knight
    L'Arachel-Mage Knight/Valkyrie
    
    This gives me:
    2 sword
    3 lance
    3 axe
    1 dark magic
    1 anima/light magic
    
    I still have another 4 slots and I still need one more magic user, an archer,
    and probably a few more people with swords.  At this point I also have to 
    consider how I'm going to support everyone.  I already have one team planned
    out.
    
    Ephraim   to

    Ephraim
    
    This is a near perfect group to start with as there's an even number people in
    it, so everyone will have an A support level.  Everyone's on horse, so it's
    easier for them to gain supports and stay supported.  There's a mage in the
    group to heal and they carry supplies so they should always have a door/chest
    key. The only problem with this group is the fact that they don't have an axe
    wielder but I can over look that.
    
    Anyways, I have four slots, one needs to have anima/light magic so I have a
    choice of Natasha, Artur, Lute, Moulder.  I personally don't like Moulder,
    I've already got one healer to level up so I don't want a second one, so no
    Natasha.  This leaves Artur and Lute.  I like them both, especially as sages,
    but I'm going to go with Artur just from the fact that Lute's support options
    are horrible with really only Ross unless I want to add Vanessa, which I don't.
    I also have to add a swordsman.  I'm going to go with Marisa over Joshua just
    because she has better luck.  Two slots left, one is going to be Tethys because
    I find her really versatile in that at the very worst she allows your best
    character to move again, or can help level up a weak person.  She also has a
    lot of great support options and the fact that she's a fire affinity is a plus
    in the support area.  My final slot will go to Neimi since she's my only
    possible ranger which adds a bow and a sword to my party, besides being good
    already that is.
    
    So my final party is:

    Tana- Wyvern Knight
    Eirika- Great Lord
    L'Arachel- Mage Knight
    
    Amelia- General
    Artur- Sage

    Which give me:
    5 swords

    1 dark magic
    
    Now comes the fun part of matching everyone together to get support rings.
    You should make a list of everyone and how they support with everyone else in
    your party, then you should start a ring with the person that has the least
    amount of support options.  In this case, it's Neimi she can only support with
    Amelia and Artur in this party.  Then you just keep on adding people on with
    the least amount of options until the ring's complete, like so:

    This large group can probably be split with Neimi, Amelia, Ewan, and Ross for
    one group so each group has a mage, and two melee characters, though it will
    break the complete support "ring" into two "chains"
    
    Of course making a team isn't always this easy.  For example, I tried to use
    Lute instead of Artur at first, but Lute made me use Vanessa, who made me use
    Syrene, to complete my support rings which I thought was more detrimental than
    anything, so I ended up substituting Artur in for Lute which made it easier.
    The biggest problem that I see happening with this team is the lack of a rogue
    and his utility, but you can easily add Colm and Joshua and still have a full
    support ring if you're okay with using 14 characters.  Or you can use an unlock
    staff and just ignore anything you can steal.
    
    Anyways, this section was really just made so that people would start to think
    more about who they choose to add to their teams since it's not always about
    the stats, you still have to think about supports, movement rates, and balance.
