                  III. Introduction [iiiin]
    =============================================
    
    Pokemon Emerald is the newest edition to the GBA Versions of Pokemon. 
    It is much similar to the Ruby and Sapphire versions, as it takes 
    place in the Hoenn region as well. Although you may prejudge this game as 
    a duplicate, but actually Emerald is an upgraded version of Ruby and 
    Sapphire as it has the new features of Fire Red and Leaf Green and other 
    new features of it's own like the Match Call and Battle Frontier. 
    
    This Guide is just a mixture of the National Pokedex and the Weakness 
    Chart. This Guide is not only for Emerald, it can also be used in 
    any game that has the National Pokedex (or all 386 pokemon). 
    
    So let's start already!!

    In the next section you'll see loads of like this:
                Weaknesses:
                     4x - ...
                     2x - ...
                Resistances:
                     1x - ...
                     .5x - ...
                     .25x - ...
                     0x - ...
    which means "4 times the damage received, 2 times the damage received," 
    and so on. This is from the perception of how much damage the 
    defender will receive. 
    
    You might ask, where do i base this? Well, I base it on a weakness 
    chart (you can find it in other faqs that have been posted in the said 
    websites on the Copyright Section). And the 4x, 2x, 1x and so on are 
    based on the following:
    
    4x:
    
    Single Type - N/A
    
    Dual Type - Type 1: 2x, Type 2: 2x
    
    2x:
    
    Single Type - Type is weak against the attacking type
    
    Dual Type - Type 1: 2x, Type 2: 1x (or vice versa)
    
    1x:
    
    Single Type - Type is neither weak nor resistant against the attacking 
    type
    
    Dual Type - Type 1: 2x, Type 2: .5x (or vice versa)
                Type 1: 1x, Type 2: 1x 
    
    .5x: 
    
    Single Type - Type is resistant against the attacking type 
    
    Dual Type -  Type 1: 1x, Type 2: .5x (or vice versa)
    
    .25x:
    
    Single Type - N/A
    
    Dual Type - Type 1: .5x, Type 2: .5x
    
    0x:
    
    Single Type - Type is immune against the attacking type
    
    Dual Type - At least one of the types is immune to the attacking type
    
    
    The effectiveness of the attack will be like this:
    
    {4x, 2x} - "It's super effective!"
    {1x} - Normal effectiveness
    {.5x, .25x} - "It's not very effective..."
    {0x} - "It doesn't affect <insert name of defending pokemon here>..."
    
    You're gonna see a lot of 4x, 2x, etc. in the next section.

      4.2 Special Abilities [ivsab]
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    
    
    These 5 abilities can change their weakness profiles a lot:
    
    
    LEVITATE - Never be hit by Ground-type moves
    VOLT ABSORB - Resistant against Lightning-type moves
    WATER ABSORB - Resistant against Water-type moves
    WONDER GUARD - Resists attack that aren't the weakness of the pokemon 
    with this ability
    THICK FAT - Cuts Fire and Ice attack damage by half (due to this, there 
    is a possibility that 
    there will be a .125 [half of .25] on the pokemon who has this trait)
    
    
    So there will be a possibility that 0x - Ground/Electric/Water/Fire 
    (almost all for Wonder Guard) so those pokemon have one of these traits 
    (except for Electric because Ground-types are also immune to Electric).
    
    
    There are also abilities who prevent certain attacks like:
    
    INSOMNIA - Prevents sleep (therefore prevents Sleep Powder, Hypnosis, 
    etc.)
    OBLIVIOUS - Prevents attraction (therefore prevents Attract)
    SOUNDPROOF - Cannot be affected by Sound-based attacks (therefore 
    prevents Hyper Voice, Grasswhistle, etc.)
    
    and more, but these will not be listed in the next section. I cannot 
    put "0x - Attract" because Attract is not a type.

    of a certain pokemon, press Ctrl + F and type in the full name of the 
    Pokemon. It would direct you to that pokemon's profile.

    The Weaknesses Pokedex is based on a type chart. A type chart is a graph
    of the 17 types and it shows their weaknesses, resistances and immunities.
    Well, I'll give you a type chart list, which basically summarizes the 
    whole Pokedex. Take note that Special Abilities are not counted here, and
    dual types are also omitted.

    Damage is said to be the amount of HP taken out of the opponent's pokemon.
    Most pokemon attacks are damaging attacks, so they give out damage to their
    opponent's pokemon. With enough damage, the HP of the opponent's pokemon 
    will eventually drop to 0, thus making the opponent's pokemon faint. This 
    is the main goal of almost any battle: making all of the opponent's pokemon
    faint, thus making you the winner. 
    
    This section will talk about damage, the factors that affect it, and what
    Weaknesses and Resistances have to do with it.

    How does one determine damage? Well, damage is very simply based on the
    base power of the Attack, the Pokemon's Attack/Special Attack, and the 
    opponent's Defense/Special Defense. This will be the base damage.

    Damage = (Base Damage + Atk/Sp.Atk of Attacker) - Def/Sp.Def of Defender
    
    Then, there are certain additions: (Note: x means Multiplied by)

    Throughout this section, I've mentioned "Physical" and "Special" attacks.
    You might be asking what this is, and what does it have to do with the game.
    Well, I'm telling you right now, it's VERY IMPORTANT.
    
    The Physical/Special Split of the 3rd generation classifies all the 17 types
    into one of 2: Physical or Special. Both attack classifications have their 
    own effects in gameplay and is affected by their own pair of STATS (explained
    in the previous section).

    This section will talk about a big factor in damage calculation: STAB.
    
    STAB, or Same Type Attack Bonus, refers to the bonus damage given to
    attacks if it's type is the same as one of the types of the pokemon that
    used it. If STAB is applied, the base damage is multiplied by 1.5, thus
    making it do bigger damage.
    
    For example, there's a battle between a Dugtrio and a Blastoise, both
    packing Earthquake. Earthquake has a base 100 Attack, and is a Ground-
    type attack. Since Dugtrio is a Ground-type pokemon, Earthquake's 
    attack will be multiplied by 1.5. So Earthquake's base damage will 
    become 150. Blastoise, on the other hand, is a Water-type. So Earth-
    quake's base damage will be 100. 
    
    Another situation. Tentacruel is a Water/Poison-type, and it has the 
    following moveset:
    
    - Surf (Base 95 Attack)
    - Ice Beam (Base 95 Attack)
    - Giga Drain (Base 60 Attack)
    - Sludge Bomb (Base 80 Attack)
    
    Surf and Sludge Bomb are Water and Poison-type attacks respectively.
    So both of them receive STAB. Surf's base damage will become 142.5, and
    Sludge Bomb's base damage will become 120.
    
    Simple, isn't it?

      6.5 - Weaknesses and Resistances in Damage [viwrd]

    Well, I've been talking about damage, but you may wanna ask, "What's the
    deal with Weaknesses and Resistances in damage?". Well, as many people
    would know, attacking with an attack to a pokemon who is weak to that 
    attacks type, the attack will do twice the damage. If that pokemon
    resists that attacks type, the attack will do half the damage. As simple
    as that.
    
    Refer to Section 5.2 for the Type Chart, which displays what types are 
    weak to what types.
    
    For example, I have a rampaging Swampert here who does Earthquake to the
    following pokemon:
    
    - Altaria (Dragon/Flying)
    - Parasect (Grass/Bug)
    - Sunflora (Grass)
    - Dugtrio (Ground)
    - Raichu (Electric)
    - Aggron (Rock/Steel)
    
    Even though the above pokemon received the same [STABbed] Earthquake, each
    pokemon will receive different damage. Altaria will receive 0 damage because
    it is part Flying, and Flying-types are immune to Ground-types. Parasect will
    receive 1/4 of the base damage of Earthquake, as Grass and Bug-types are both 
    resistant against Ground-type. .5 times .5 = .25 = 1/4. Sunflora will receive 
    half the damage, because Grass-types are resistant to ground types. Dugtrio 
    is the only pokemon who will receive the normal damage. Raichu will receive 
    twice the damage as it is weak against Ground-type. And Finally, Aggron will 
    receive 4x the damage as Rock and Steel are both weak to Ground.
    
    Very simple, right?

    This went by the name of "Abilities". Abilities give the pokemon special 
    traits meant to improve the pokemon in being a helpful factor of the trainer's 
    journey. A pokemon has only 1 ability, but some pokemon can have 1 of 2 
    abilities it can have. As of Emerald, there are a total of 78 abilities, and
    some of them concern Weaknesses, Resistances and Pokemon Types. That is what
    we are going to tackle in this section.
    
    Listed in Section 4.2 are the 5 abilities that concern Resistances. In this 
    section, we will again list them, give a definition and give the pokemon that
    can have the ability. We will also list the abilities that concern certain
    types, whether it may be support for the pokemon, annoyance to the opponent 
    or anything else.

    For all the 17 types, there are certain items that will slightly 
    increase the attacks of that certain-type when that item is attatched.
    Listed here are all those items and their effects.
    
    
    a) Black Belt
    	- Increases the power of Fighting-type moves by 10%
    
    b) Blackglasses
    	- Increases the power of Dark-type moves by 10%
    
    c) Charcoal
    	- Increases the power of Fire-type moves by 10%
    
    d) Dragon Fang
    	- Increases the power of Dragon-type moves by 10%
    
    e) Hard Stone
    	- Increases the power of Rock-type moves by 10%
    
    f) Magnet
    	- Increases the power of Electric-type moves by 10%
    
    g) Metal Coat
    	- Increases the power of Steel-type moves by 10%
    	- If attatched to Onix/Scyther and traded, the pokemon
    	  evolves to Steelix/Scizor
    
    h) Miracle Seed
    	- Increases the power of Grass-type moves by 10%
    
    i) Mystic Water
    	- Increases the power of Water-type moves by 10% 
    
    j) Nevermeltice
    	- Increases the power of Ice-type moves by 10%
    
    k) Poison Barb
    	- Increases the power of Poison-type moves by 10%
    
    l) Sea Incense
    	- Increases the power of Water-type moves by 5%

    	- Increases the power of Flying-type moves by 10%

    	- Increases the power of Normal-type moves by 10%

    Some pokemon have hold items that are exclusively for themselves.
    These items increase the stats of these pokemon, thus making them
    stronger in dealing damage or in defending from your opponent's
    damaging attacks. Listed below are these pokemon-exclusive items,
    what they do, and the pokemon they are exclusive to.
    
    a) Deepseascale
    	- Increases the Special Defense of the user by 100%
    	- Exclusive to Clamperl
    	- If attatched to Clamperl and traded, the pokemon
    	  will evolve to Gorebyss
    
    b) Deepseatooth
    	- Increases the Special Attack of the user by 100%
    	- Exclusive to Clamperl
    	- If attatched to Clamperl and traded, the pokemon
    	  will evolve to Huntail
    
    c) Light Ball
    	- Increases the Special Attack of the user by 100%
    	- Exclusive to Pikachu
    
    d) Lucky Punch
    	- Increases the Critical Hit Ratio of the user
    	- Exclusive to Chansey
    
    e) Metal Powder
    	- Increases the Defense and Special Defense of user
    	  by 50%
    	- Exclusive to Ditto
    
    f) Soul Dew
    	- Increases either Special Defense or Special Attack
    	  of user by 50%
    	- Exclusive to Latios (Sp. Def) and Latias (Sp. Atk)
    
    g) Stick
    	- Increases the Critical Hit Ratio of user
    	- Exclusive to Farfetch'd
    
    h) Thick Club
    	- Increases the Attack of user by 100%
    	- Exclusive to Cubone and Marowak

      8.3.3 - Pokemon-Strengthening Items [vipsi]

    While the Pokemon-Exclusive Items only raise stats to certain
    pokemon, there are also some items that increase the stats of 
    any pokemon when attatched. Listed below are those Pokemon-
    Strengthening Items and their effects.
    
    
    a) Choice Band
    	- Multiplies the power of a Physical Attack by 1.5 
    	- User is limited to that Physical Attack as long
    	  as user is in the field
    
    b) Scope Lens
    	- Increases Critical-Hit Ratio of user

    =============================================
    
    
    Q: WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH WEAKNESSES AND RESISTANCES?
    
    A: Weaknesses are the types that a pokemon is vulnerable/weak to. When the
    pokemon is attacked by a type it is weak against, it receives more damage.
    Resistances work the opposite way. They are the type a pokemon is strong 
    against. When the pokemon is attacked by a type it is resistant to, it 
    receives less damage.
    
    
    Q: 4x, .5x, 0x? I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT!
    
    A: In my guide, I use the multipliers 4x, 2x, 1x, .5x, .25x, 0x, and .125x 
    in a few pokemon. This means you multiply the damage an attack does with one
    of these multipliers. Which multiplier you use is based on the type of that
    attack. 
    
    
    Q: IN YOUR GUIDE, I SAW THE WORDS "(w/o Thick Fat)" AND "(w/ Thick Fat)", AND
    SOME OTHER PHRASES LIKE THAT. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
    
    A: A few abilities affect the damage a certain-type attack does. For a list, 
    go to Section 4.2 (Special Abilities). Some pokemon have these abilities, and
    a split ability that doesn't affect weaknesses. For example, Grumpig, who can 
    have Thick Fat or Own Tempo. Thus, "w/ Thick Fat" means if Grumpig's ability
    is Thick Fat, and "w/o Thick Fat" means if Grumpig's ability is Own Tempo, or 
    the Split Ability of Thick Fat. This applies to all pokemon who have a Split
    Ability with their Special Type-related Abilities.
