This guide essentially is cut into three pieces; A General Walkthrough, a 100% Guide and miscellaneous information. The General Walkthrough takes you through the optimal route whilst the 100% Guide gives you a rundown on how to totally complete the game. Take note that there are spoilers in this guide. I'm not really going to avoid them, because if you've got this game then you must know a little about One Piece anyway, especially as this game only covers the first saga. You may notice I stick to the North American naming scheme throughout this Guide, mainly for familiarity for the people who are only used to saying things like "Zolo" and "Chaser", though I will admit, I do prefer the Japanese names. One thing I'm not changing is the name of the Fishmen species. A Fishman and a Merman, in the One Piece world, are two totally different things, and the fact that 4Kids changed the name of the species for no apparent reason totally blows my mind. Fishmen will be called Fishmen in this FAQ. I mean think about it, in the anime when Luffy is trying to draw a FISHMAN, he draws a FISH with arms and legs, how could Luffy make an assumption like that with the word MERMAN? Argh, I could go on all day about that stuff, so let's move on... I should also add that I haven't actually seen much of the North American dub of One Piece yet, so there are some names I'm unsure of, like Daddy the Father, or whether Johnny and Yosaku are still Johnny and Yosaku. For example, I know Daddy the Father is called as such in the Japanese version, but I wouldn't have a clue about his name in the dub. Just remember that if I say something weird, I could be referring to the Japanese version. _______________________________________________________________________________ 1.1 - ABOUT THIS GAME [ATT1010000]* _______________________________________________________________________________ [Credit: onepiece.wikia.com] One Piece for the Game Boy Advance is a portable game made exclusively for the handheld system for the American market. It was developed by Dimps Corporation, p1ublished by Bandai and released in the U.S. in 2005. As the game was made around the time 4Kids held the series license, much of their naming conventions were used in the game. The game basically covers the whole of the East Blue Saga, starting from the Captain Morgan arc and ending in the Rogue Town arc. Players control Luffy through the entirety of the game as they make their way through the stages, fighting generic pirates, marines and henchmen. Luffy starts out with a few move as his disposal but as the game goes on gain more and more in his arsenal to help him against his enemies. Other members of his crew like Zolo and Sanji are also useable in the form of brief summons to help clear out enemies. After you talk to them they will join you, and their icon will show up on the bottom-left corner (turn the wheel using the L button to cycle through your crew members). Like Luffy's Gum Gum Double Barrel and Gum Gum Axe, the A+B and Up+A+B specials take 1 bar and 2 bars of energy respectively. ZOLO - "A fight eh, Luffy? Need a hand?" A+B - Oni Giri Up+A+B - Dragon Twister Zolo's specials do good damage and the Oni Giri can be used effectively in boss battles to give you a bit of breathing space. His Dragon Twister can clear out a bunch of enemies easy. You should pick him up if you see him. NAMI - "Just so you know, the treasure is all mine!" A+B - Pickpocket Up+A+B - Lightning Strike Whenever I've used Nami's A+B I've either gotten an Apple or the Pirate Icon, with the Pirate Icon coming out more often then not. This is, of course, completely useless, however I suppose you might strike it lucky and steal the Fist, key word here is "might". Her Lightning Strike move doesn't work against bosses, but will hit all enemies on the screen, making it even better than the Dragon Twister. Although unline the Dragon Twister, it doesn't hit bosses. USOPP - "You can count on me, Luffy!" A+B - Confusion Shot Up+A+B - Strong Shot Usopp's Confusion Shot stuns an enemy for a short amount of time, and it also works on bosses too. However Usopp's Strong Shot does NOT work on bosses. With the strong shot, Usopp will pretty much destroy your attackers in one shot. If you attack while Usopp is out, the next shot he'll take will always backfire. If there is no visible enemy on the field Usopp's next shot will backfire. I think he takes 3 shots before leaving the screen. SANJI - "What do you want to eat, guys?" A+B - Triple Kick Up+A+B - Full Heal Sanji's Triple Kick is a pretty good special move here, although it's not really that different in damage to the Gum Gum Double Barrel or the Oni Giri. Sanji's real worth here is his Full Heal, which is super effective when you're getting your ass beat by a boss character *stares at Arlong*. _______________________________________________________________________________ 1.2.2 - ENVIRONMENT MOVES [ENV1020200]* _______________________________________________________________________________ During the course of the game you will find various items or conditions that you can use to your own advantage. THE ROCKET POLE - Introduced in Navy Base, Area 1 The Rocket Pole is my name for the poles which are dotted around most of the stages in the game. These poles are named as such because when you use Gum Gum Grab on them you will pull yourself forward into the Gum Gum Rocket attack; a powerful attack that also zips you across the screen quickly. Most are in the vertical position, but you can find some in the horizontal and diagonal position as well. BLUNT PROJECTILES - Introduced in Navy Base, Area 1 Blunt projectiles include bullets, bombs and cannonballs. If you perform the Gum Gum Balloon while any of these projectiles are coming towards you, you'll just bounce them right back, hurting any enemy the projectile hits afterwards. Do note that you cannot deflect Knives or any of Don Krieg's projectiles this way. THE FLOATING BAG - Introduced in Navy Base, Area 2 The floating bag can only be used by latching onto it with a Gum Gum Grab. If you press the D-Pad in the direction you're swinging, you will swing a lot higher. If you press down on the D-Pad and jump, you will drop from the floating bag, however if you just press jump, you will jump upwards, with the height of your jump dependant on the power of your swing. CLOTHESLINES - Introduced in Port Town, Area 1 Clotheslines are actually just overhanging poles; it's just easier to call them "clotheslines". They are skinnier than the Rocket Poles, but they perform a similar role. The clothesline will act as a spring, rocketing you up higher depending on how far you fell to hit it, as long as you hold jump that is. Unlike the Rocket Poles it doesn't launch you into an attack. GIANT CANNONS - Introduced in Port Town, Area 1 Giant Cannons resemble large boiling pots. When you jump into one the cannon will start tilting down and then up. Press jump at the right time to get blasted out of the cannon. You will be in a large Gum Gum Balloon-type form, but on your side. In this form you can jump and bounce of walls, which is helpful in getting to high places which don't have any obvious ways of getting up there. Your Cannonball form will take out most enemies in one shot. STRONG WIND - Introduced in Syrup Village, Area 1 Strong winds are exclusive to Syrup Village, and can be identified by leaves moving across the screen. If the leaves are going horizontally, then your speed is affected, however if the leaves are going upwards, your jump height is affected. Also, if you perform the Gum Gum Balloon while the leaves are rising, you will propel yourself up higher than you ever could by just jumping. THE SWINGING POLE - Introduced in Baratie, Area 1 These poles are different from the Rocket Poles because you swing around them instead of launching off them. Credit goes out to Wikipedia and One Piece Encyclopedia. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.1.1 - MONKEY D. LUFFY [MDL2010100]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Age: 17 Role in the Straw Hat Pirates: Captain Monkey D. Luffy is the main character of One Piece. To the people outside of his Pirate Crew he is generally known as "Straw Hat" Luffy, thanks to the straw hat he wears that was given to him by Red-Haired Shanks. Luffy's dream is to become the "Pirate King", by finding One Piece, the deceased "Pirate King" Gold Roger's treasure. Although his ambitions are that great, he is portrayed as a carefree and sometimes airheaded character which has a huge appetite, often eating to the point of becoming comically fat. But he isn't naive. Knowing the dangers ahead, he is willing to risk his life and possibly die trying to reach his goal. Luffy gained rubber-like stretching powers from eating the Gum Gum Fruit, at the cost of never being able to swim again, like all of the Devil Fruit users in One Piece. Luffy uses the malleability of his limbs to achieve tremendous velocity to strike enemies with devastating impact. His rubber body is virtually immune to recoil attacks. As such, blunt objects, punches and even bullets deflect off his body harmlessly. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.1.2 - RORONOA ZOLO [RZL2010200]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Age: 19 Role in the Straw Hat Pirates: First Mate, Swordsman Joins: After defeating Axe-Hand Morgan Roronoa Zolo is the first person to join the Straw Hat Pirates, and is the Crew's First Mate and Swordsman. Zolo is often a serious character, and will never back down from a challenge if he asked for one. He says that he doesn't fear death, and will initially self- harm himself in various situations to help his comrades in need. Contrast to this, he can be seen pulling a goofy face at various moments. Zolo also has a rivalry with Sanji, as the two always try to out perform one another. Zolo is extremely poor at understanding geographical directions and gets lost very easily. Zolo also sleeps a great deal, and has been known to sleep through important events. Zolo also likes to drink, and although he has an abnormally high alcohol tolerance, he claims that a true swordsman should never let himself get drunk. Zolo is a skilled swordsman, able to use one, two and three swords in varying attack styles, although he is most proficient with the fictional sword style Santoryu (literally: three sword style), clutching his third sword in his mouth. Zolo is somehow able to speak with his sword held in his mouth; Eiichiro Oda has stated that it is his heart that allows him to do so. Though not a samurai, he maintains his own code of honor. His goal is to become the greatest swordsman in the world by beating the current greatest swordsman, Hawkeye Mihawk. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.1.3 - NAMI [NAM2010300]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Age: 18 Role in the Straw Hat Pirates: Navigator, Thief Joins: After Defeating Buggy the Clown, then again after defeating Arlong Nami is the second character to join the Straw Hat Pirates, and also the first to attempt to leave the Pirate Crew, although Luffy and the rest of the crew successfully get her back. Nami is greedy and will do anything, aside from endangering her friends, for money, due to her past. After having gathered money for 8 years (and even before that often stole things due to her family being poor), Nami is naturally accustomed to it. Even after being freed from Arlong, she decides to keep gathering money, stating that what she gets is all hers now, but thinks of her friends as more important. Nami also tries to avoid fights, and is one of the less adventurous and brave members of the crew. Her two favorite things are money and tangerines, because of her love of her foster mother, Bellemere. Nami's dream is to draw a perfect map of the world. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.1.4 - USOPP [USP2010400]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Age: 17 Role in the Straw Hat Pirates: Sniper Joins: After Defeating Captain Kuro Usopp is the third person to join the Straw Hat Pirates, and his dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea, like his father Yasopp of the Red Haired Pirate Crew. Usopp is easily scared and always makes up excuses to avoid going on dangerous outings, excuses which are simply ignored by his crew-mates. Despite his timid nature, he will do anything to help his friends, even if it means standing up to a far more powerful enemy. In battle he uses various tricks to deceive his opponent, such as calling out the name of a previously used attack but doing something completely different. Usopp has outstanding marksmanship abilities with his slingshot and his remarkable accuracy often surprises his enemies. He utilizes extremely varied ammunition; including eggs, hot sauce, and low-grade gunpowder. He also likes to use his hammer in a frenzied melee attack. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.1.5 - SANJI [SJI2010500]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Age: 19 Role in the Straw Hat Pirates: Cook Joins: After Defeating Don Krieg Sanji is the fourth character to join the Straw Hat Pirates. Sanji is the Straw Hat crew's chef, whose dream is to find the Great Blue, a legendary ocean which contains all the fish in the world. He takes great pride in the meals he makes. Sanji is also a very skilled fighter, who uses only kicks. He was trained by the once infamous pirate and chef Red Leg Zeff, who had been to the Grand Line himself. Sanji has a strong sense of chivalry, and he will never harm a woman, no matter what. As said by himself, he will never kick a woman even if he dies because that is how he was brought up. Sanji also seems to keep this code regardless of a woman's appearance. Sanji and Zolo are rivals and always picking fights over silly things, and calling each other names. Even though they both make clear that they dislike each other on a daily basis, they have shown at some crucial moments that they do care for each other as friends. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.2 - THE MAIN MENU [TMM2020000]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Once you've picked out your Save File, The Main Menu will open up. At the start of the game you'll only have Stories, Collections and Options unlocked. But after completing the game once you will open the Mini-Games option. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.2.1 - STORIES [STR2020100]* _______________________________________________________________________________ "Stories" is where you'll be spending the majority of your time. When you first enter Story Mode, you'll only have the first area of Navy Base unlocked, and you'll have to pass areas to unlock more. You can exit the Story Mode screen and return to the menu whenever you please; your progress will be saved. You could also revisit Areas you've already passed, useful if you've got an item that would be of use (such as the Treasure Key) or if you've forgotten something (fighting Alvida in Navy Base Area One). _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.2.2 - COLLECTIONS [CLT2020200]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Collections are where you can view all the collectable items you've gotten so far, such as Special Buggy Ball or Billow-a-Bike. There are 5 pages of items at 10 items a page, meaning there are a total of 50 items to collect. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.2.3 - MINI-GAMES [MNG2020300]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Mini-Games are unlocked after you've beaten Story Mode once. The default mini- game is Ship Battle, which has three difficulties; Easy - where you fight generic pirates, Medium - where you fight the Navy, and Hard - where you fight the Fishmen. Once you've collected every coin in the game, you unlock Boss Rush, which lets you replay all of the Boss Battles at varying difficulties, albeit without you crewmates. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.2.4 - OPTIONS [OPT2020400]* _______________________________________________________________________________ "Options" actually has fewer options then you think. All you really can do is check on your score. Pointless, yes? They could have just added the bounty to a small corner on the stage selection screen. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.3 - IN-GAME ITEMS AND POWERUPS [IGI2030000]* _______________________________________________________________________________ As you move through the game, you will come across different kinds of items that are hidden in crates or chests. To open a chest you'll need the Treasure Key, which you can get by first defeating Mohji (Port Town Mini-Boss) and then returning it to Chouchou (the little dog in Act 2 of Port Town). - Bomb: Bombs can blow up certain walls that impede you, but it can also be used to deal great damage to enemies. - Coin: There are a set number of coins on each stage, and if you manage to collect them all, you'll open up Boss Rush! - Apple: Restores some life. Also, if you leave it for a while (as in go far away) and then return, the Apple will turn purple. I don't know what happens when you eat a Purple Apple - I didn't really notice a change; I actually thought I had picked up a bomb, and so I was quite disappointed when nothing happened. - Meat: Restore a lot of life! - Pirate Icon: Gives you a bar of energy. - Straw Hat: Gives you a Free Life. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4 - STORIES [STR2040000]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Follow the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, as they make their way across the East Blue to the Grand Line. Please note; I'm assuming you have chosen "Normal" as your difficulty. I can guess that "Hard" means that you'll get stronger enemies, such as the green hat marines, earlier and that there will be more ambushes and the amount of enemies in these ambushes would increase. The damage will most probably be increased. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.1 - SHIP BATTLES [SBO2040100]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Ship Battles are Mini-Games which occur after every boss fight. You find yourself on the Merry Go, and you have 60 seconds to clear out your enemies. Remember the Barrel Mini-Game from Street Fighter 2? Think of it like that. At the end of the Ship Battle you will get free lives, the amount dependant on the time remaining. The most free lives you can get from a Ship Battle is 3. The opponent's you face are: - Navy Base: Pirates (Easy) - Port Town: Navy (Easy) - Syrup Village: Pirates (Medium) - Baratie: Navy (Medium) - Arlong Park: Fishmen (Hard) There is no Ship Battle for Rogue Town. Instead you'll be placed in a short stage where you have to run away from Chaser. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.2 - NAVY BASE [NVB2040200]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Navy Base consists of Alvida's Ship in Area 1 and the actual Base in Area 2 and Area 3. The levels itself aren't all too challenging, and they are mainly around just to give you an opportunity to get used to the controls. _______________________________________________________________________________ 22.214.171.124 - AREA 1 [BON2040201]* _______________________________________________________________________________ A short indoors section to start. Kill the two pirates and continue on, you'll see a green Rocket Pole. Use it to kill the next two pirates and head off to the next section. This next section will see your first ambush. 2 Pirates from the left and 5 Pirates will attack from the right. You must defeat them all before you can move on. Use the Rocket Poles to move across the screen quickly. There's an apple in the crate on the ledge just before the end of the section, so break it open and grab it if you need it. There is a box with a Straw Hat Flag in it near the start of this section, so pick it up if you intend to fight Alvida. You can use the Rocket Poles above you to reach the ledge with the Knife Thrower, but be careful you don't loiter in his line of fire. From there it's just a short run to the next section. The box near the end contains a coin, which is useful for getting the Boss Rush mode. There is another ambush in this section, however if you're good enough with the Gum Gum Rocket there IS a way in which you can avoid it (with a bit of practice). Use the first Rocket Pole to get a good high launch with medium distance, from there use the second Pole to zip you past the ambush. If all goes well you should land harmlessly on a step. The next section tests your timing. Make your way up the moving ledges while avoiding knives and taking out the Knife Throwers. There's no real point in going down, you can't anyway until you get the Gum Gum Spear later on in the game. There is another ambush here, however you can avoid it just like the last, but you have to get the Gum Gum Rocket here PERFECT. About 1 hand-length (we're talking about Luffy's hands, not yours) from the top should get you past it. After the ambush (or not) you have to make your way past a bunch of floor spikes. Coby is up on the top floor while your pirate flag (which marks the end of the stage) is on the bottom. Go whichever way you please. _______________________________________________________________________________ 126.96.36.199 - OPTIONAL MINI-BOSS: ALVIDA [ALV2040202]* _______________________________________________________________________________ If you wish to fight Alvida, you'll need to get to Coby on the top floor of the last section, then head back outside and go up the ledge where you found the coin. If you jump over and go up the top path, you'll eventually get to Alvida. Alvida's pretty easy. Jump over her swing and hit her with anything. It doesn't take much to bring her down either. _______________________________________________________________________________ 188.8.131.52 - AREA 2 [BTW2040203]* _______________________________________________________________________________ We are now at the Navy Base, and we'll immediately meet Zolo, who is strung up in the Navy Courtyard. He'll tell you to get lost, so just make your way to the next screen. Make your way past the two Navy grunts and use the Rocket pole to defeat the two on the ledge. Try not to fly off this ledge as you'll have to make your way back past the dogs to try again. Kill the Navy gunman and continue on to the next section. Make your way up the raised stairways to the first ambush of the level. After clearing the marines out move on to the next screen. After defeating the two swordsmen and gunman that meet you here, continue right. If you drop down to where the information box is, you'll find a chest that you cannot open right now. Ignore it and use Gum Gum Grab to latch onto the floating bag. Jump up and defeat the marine gunman to the left before the one on the right. The box at the start of the next section contains an apple. Whether to get that or not is up to you. Use the raised platform to reach the upper section, and defeat the gunman to get into a good position to reach the floating bag. Carefully swing your way over the spikes and wait for the next floating bag to come along, use this to reach the bottom level where the bomb is. Collect it and reach back over to the floating bag, using it to reach the top level this time. Ignore the passageway to the left and head right to the next section. You want to stay on the lower passage here, so make your way past the marines to the Rocket Pole and launch yourself to the right. You'll want to hitch a ride on the moving platform in the next screen, timing your attacks right so you can take out the waiting gunmen without getting hit. Use the two Rocket Poles to blast your way into an ambush, which blocks your way to the next section. Make your way right and up the platforms to the top, ignore the Rocket Pole as it only sends you to a dead end. Take the short run to the end of this section. When you get past the dogs and the swordsman you'll find a small area with spikes, if you aim a Gum Gum Grab right you latch onto a Rocket Pole which will send you flying up to a box containing a coin. Now, this part could be a little difficult. You'll need to knock off the gunman that's on the small ledge, and carefully jump across the spikes onto the platform by the Rocket Pole. You could also jump short and use the Pole to launch yourself to safety as well. To get to the other side of the spikes, you need to aim a diagonal Gum Gum Grab at a good distance to get enough height and distance in order to clear the gap. The next section sees you outside again. You'll find a little girl named Rika, who will blame herself for Zolo's imprisonment. Move on and you'll eventually run into Zolo again. After a short chat a bunch of Navy goons will attack. Clear them out and move on to the first proper Mini-Boss. _______________________________________________________________________________ 184.108.40.206 - MINI-BOSS: HELMEPPO [HMP2040204]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Helmeppo is the bratty, spoilt son of Captain Morgan. He spends his days picking on the citizens of Port Town and generally being a jerk. He is responsible for Zolo's predicament and plans to have Zolo executed, despite informing him that he'll only be incarcerated for a month. You've got to smash your way through the hordes of Marines in order to get a shot at Helmeppo. If you managed to save your bomb from the level, you could use that in combination with a Gum Gum Axe in order to end the area early. _______________________________________________________________________________ 220.127.116.11 - BOSS: AXE-HAND MORGAN [AHM2040205]* _______________________________________________________________________________ "Axe-Hand" Morgan is the father of Helmeppo and is a corrupt Navy Captain. He rules with fear and brutality, killing anyone who questions his authority. He is called "Axe-Hand" as he literally has an axe for a right arm. Hit-and-Run tactics work best on Morgan. Stay close and jump his attack, then hit him with a Gum Gum Barrage, rinse and repeat. Sometimes he will call reinforcements, you'll have to avoid Morgan a bit and take out the Marines; if you just leave them they WILL become a thorn in your side. Also look out for a horizontal slash move. This move comes when you've slacked off on a combo. During the charge for this move Morgan is completely invulnerable, so get out the way quickly. After this battle, Zolo will join your crew. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.3 - PORT TOWN [PRT2040300]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Port Town is a small seaside township that is being overrun by the Buggy Pirates. Cannons make their debut here, as well as clotheslines. _______________________________________________________________________________ 18.104.22.168 - AREA 1 [PON2040301]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 22.214.171.124 - AREA 2 [PTW2040302]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 126.96.36.199 - MINI-BOSS: MOHJI [MAR2040303]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Mohji is the first mate of the Buggy Pirates, and is the Animal Trainer of the crew. He owns a large, green pet Lion named Richie, who he uses to attack in his stead. To get to Mohji you first have to knock him off Richie. Richie will leap around you and try to swipe at you with his paw. A Gum Gum Barrage should be enough to send Mohji flying off Richie. Hit Mohji as hard as you can during this period as he will just sit there and not even fight back. _______________________________________________________________________________ 188.8.131.52 - BOSS: BUGGY THE CLOWN [BTC2040304]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Buggy the Clown is an odd-looking pirate who has the power of the Chop Chop Fruit, a Cursed Fruit which allows him to split up his body parts and move each part around independently. This power also means he cannot be harmed by cutting techniques. He has a history with Red-Haired Shanks, Luffy's pirate Role Model. Buggy the Clown will probably take a while to beat, so prepare for what could be a long battle. Don't get too committed into pummelling him, as he could use his power to split himself into pieces, making him temporarily invulnerable. His close range attack has him blast his fist at you, so jump it, then hit him with something. His other attack sees him split in half and throw his spinning legs your way. You can get in a few jumping kicks, but watch out for when he reconnects. Once his lifebar hits below about half, he will separate his entire body and float around. You can still kick him in the head, but look out for his claws, as they can sometimes swoop down onto you. He will also attempt to divebomb you as well, but it's easy enough to evade. After this battle, Nami will join your crew. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.4 - SYRUP VILLAGE [SRV2040400]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Syrup Village is the home of Kaya, Usopp the Liar and the Veggie Pirates. It's a nice, quaint country village; however there seems to be some dark dealings happening in this otherwise peaceful place. _______________________________________________________________________________ 184.108.40.206 - AREA 1 [SON2040401]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 220.127.116.11 - AREA 2 [STW2040402]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 18.104.22.168 - MINI-BOSS: DJANGO THE HYPNOTIST [DTH2040403]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Django is the first mate and acting Captain of the Black Cat Pirates. He is a hypnotist, who uses his powers to make his crew stronger, or to confuse or put his enemies to sleep. Django is based on Michael Jackson, somewhat, from his odd way of travelling (moonwalking) to his mannerisms and flamboyant gestures. While Django is moving around he cannot be hit, and once he stops he automatically launches an attack. If you manage to jump his attack you can get in a good combo. He'll generally launch either a wave that reverses your D-Pad controls or a wave which puts you to sleep. If he hits you with the sleep attack he may also fall asleep as well. Beware the attack that makes the screen pixellated, you can avoid this attack (a blue beam) by jumping over it at the height of your jump. _______________________________________________________________________________ 22.214.171.124 - BOSS: CAPTAIN KURO [CTK2040404]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Captain Kuro is the captain of the Black Cat Pirates, and has been posing as Kaya's caretaker, Klahadore, in order to kill her and inherit her fortune. He is known for his elaborate plans that do not fail, as well as his extreme bloodlust, violence and penchant for killing his own crew members. Kuro is fast, so you have to pay attention. You also have to give him a little bit of breathing room, as he has an attack that teleports right on top of you, which could leave you right open. He has a lot of basic attacks and also a teleporting move. His big attack is one where he goes to the center of the screen, then moves across the screen quickly slashing wildly. He goes left-to- right about 3 times, getting faster each time. Good luck dodging this attack, I'd suggest jumping at peak height and adjusting your movement to land behind him as he moves across. After this battle, Usopp will join your crew. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.5 - BARATIE [BRT2040500]* _______________________________________________________________________________ The Baratie is a large floating restaurant owned by the former pirate "Red Leg" Zeff. It is in the process of being attacked by Don Krieg's Pirate Armada, so it's in your best interest to fight them off for him. Area One is the Baratie itself, whilst Areas Two and Three are situated on Don Krieg's destroyed ship. _______________________________________________________________________________ 126.96.36.199 - AREA 1 [BON2040501]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 188.8.131.52 - AREA 2 [BTW2040502]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 184.108.40.206 - MINI-BOSS: GHIN [GHN2040503]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Ghin is one tough dude, and to be honest I think if he joined the Straw Hats he'd do fine in their ranks. He is the first mate of Don Krieg, and uses two modified Tonfa to fight. He is known as the "Diablo". This fight is fought on what seems to be a small bridge made out of brown stone. Anyway, Ghin takes to the air quite a bit, and he'll jump around until he can find an opening to attack you. He also has a few airborne attacks, including one that can break a section of the stone below you. Watch out because if you fall down the gap, you'll lose a life. Approach this fight with a bit of caution. _______________________________________________________________________________ 220.127.116.11 - BOSS: DON KRIEG [DNK2040504]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Don Krieg is the captain of the Pirate Armada, East Blue's largest pirate fleet. He is a cruel, calculating man who uses underhanded tactics and pure skulduggery in his pursuit of victory. There is pretty much no limit to the depths Krieg will sink to in order to win, and like Kuro; he does not care much for his own crew. Don Krieg's stage is quite unique. First you have to actually make your way through a short stage before you can get to him. While you're navigating the platforms, Krieg will be hurling bombs and poison spikes at you, as long as you're running, you should be okay. When you finally get to him, you can jump him and pummel him from behind. After a few hits Krieg will slink back further, but it's not too far now as you're at the actual battlefield. Krieg will attack as normal, but now you can knock him off his feet, so know you can get in an effective special attack. He uses the same two attacks as before, but he'll add in a spike attack that spaces itself out so it can hit you while your airborne. After you've done about 50% damage to Krieg, he'll shoot out a red bomb that will cover the bottom half of the screen with poison. Don't worry as you will both be moved to the upper area of the stage. From here Krieg adds one more attack: He will take his shoulder pads off and create a spear, and will then swing for the fences, while he is charging this attack he is invincible, so get the hell out of dodge because if he hits you it will hurt HARD. If you knock him off the mast into the poison, the poison will disappear. Of course, it's much easier to dodge the spear attack now, since Krieg is stuck on the bottom level. All that's left is to finish him off. After this battle, Sanji will join your crew, however you will find Nami is not on the Merry Go in the stage select screen. Uh oh! _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.6 - ARLONG PARK [ALP2040500]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Arlong Park is situated on Nami's home island, and is ruled by the Fishman Arlong. The only enemies you run into here are fishmen (with the exception of the Marines that accompany Captain Nezumi, but that's optional and not on our route anyway), which can be a pain to defeat. _______________________________________________________________________________ 18.104.22.168 - AREA 1 [AON2040501]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 22.214.171.124 - AREA 2 [ATW2040502]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 126.96.36.199 - MINI-BOSS: CHOO, KUROOBI AND HACHI [CKH2040503]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Choo, Kuroobi and Hachi are Arlong's best fighters. Choo is an Archerfish Fishman and specialises in projectiles. Kuroobi is a Stingray Fishman who practises Fishman Karate. Hachi is an Octopus Fishman and a swordsman, using six swords for his Six Swords Style. Hachi is the First Mate of the Arlong Pirates. This battle is very fast, as all 3 come at you one after the other, without the recovery time you normally get from a normal boss battle. Their attacks are pretty much the same as when you meet them in single encounters. Just keep your wits about you and attack each Fishman as you see him. _______________________________________________________________________________ 188.8.131.52 - BOSS: ARLONG [ARL2040504]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Arlong is the captain of the Arlong Pirates. He is also the ruler of Arlong Park, whose reach extends to Nami's home village of Coco Village. His ambition is to rule over the entire East Blue, an ambition driven by him forcing Nami to draw maps of all the islands in the sea. Before we start I'm going to recommend you build up two special bars for emergency purposes. If your health starts getting low select Sanji and use his Full Heal special, it's better than dying and having to start again. Arlong has two health bars here. He also has a nasty range of attacks. He'll generally try to snap at you using his teeth if you stay too close, so jump that attack and counter using a Gum Gum Barrage. Sometimes he'll just run at you, trying to get you with his teeth, this move can be easily avoided by jumping over him. The real trouble starts when he begins faking you out. He has a sliding attack which he'd sometimes pull back to deliver a different attack, this could become a problem if you're stuck in the air and he bounces back just out of range of a kick, because his immediate attack DOES have the range to hit you. Also, after knocking out his first life bar he'll dive into the water, with only his fin sticking out. Avoid his fin for a bit and he'll suddenly dive out, just keep running and avoiding his shadow and even he'll land head first into the concrete. There is a small window of opportunity to pummel him. After you take out about half of his yellow lifebar, the next part of the battle begins. Arlong will punch a big hole in the wall and pull out a giant sword. The screen will start scrolling upwards and you will see some floating bags. Make your way up the floating bags, avoiding Arlong as you go. Don't try and show off or anything because if you mistime a Gum Gum Grab you will fall to your death. After climbing a bit you will find yourself up on the top floor of Arlong Park. Arlong will also jump up and the last part of the battle starts. He will now only use one attack; remember Alvida's club attack? Well, Arlong does this three times in a row, QUICKLY as well. There is a bit of a lag after the third swing, so take the opportunity to smash Arlong's face in. After this battle, Nami will rejoin your crew. _______________________________________________________________________________ 2.4.7 - ROGUE TOWN [RGT2040600]* _______________________________________________________________________________ The final stage of the game, Rogue Town is the birthplace and hometown of the Pirate King Gold Roger, who was also executed here by the Navy. This stage features an auto-scrolling level, which has its own particular quirks and glitches (none of which I'll go into). _______________________________________________________________________________ 184.108.40.206 - AREA 1 [RON2040601]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 220.127.116.11 - OPTIONAL MINI-BOSS: ALVIDA [ALV2040602]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Alvida's back! And this time she's got a new secret weapon! She's eaten the Slip Slip Fruit, a Cursed Fruit that allows objects to just slide off her. You will find her at the execution platform, with two ramps set up on either side. She has a few new attacks which takes advantage of the new surroundings. The first new attack is a sliding attack from one ramp to the other and back again, just jump over to avoid it. The second one sees her jump off the ramp to hit you with her club, if you're in the corner, you can use the Gum Gum Spear's invincibility period to avoid it, or if possible run out of the way. Just beat her up as usual. _______________________________________________________________________________ 18.104.22.168 - OPTIONAL MINI-BOSS: BUGGY THE CLOWN [BTC2040603]* _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ 22.214.171.124 - AREA 2 [RTW2040604]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Area 2 is an autoscroller. The best advice I could give you is not to screw around doing stunts or anything. There is a bomb midway through the stage, but it is needed for a blocked passageway not too long after it. DO NOT SCREW UP THE SHOT. Apart from that, the other advice is to make sure you can always see the ground, this is crucial when the screen is scrolling upwards, you do not want to get caught out messing with a high platform as the ground slowly gives way to you. _______________________________________________________________________________ 126.96.36.199 - MINI-BOSS: TASHIGI [TSG2040605]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Tashigi is the subordinate of Captain Chaser, and is stationed in Rogue Town with him. She just happens to look like Zolo's childhood friend Kuina; a fact that visibly disturbs Zolo. She fights using her katana, Shigure, although she is unbelievably clumsy. She has poor eyesight, and needs the aid of Glasses. Tashigi's a real work of art. Anyway, her first attack is generally a two-hit combo with her sword. You can jump it and hit her with a combo, but be careful as she recovers quite quickly. After recovering she'd either try the two-hit combo again or an upwards slash attack, so be careful if you pursue her in the air. After a while she will bring in a few new attacks, first is a dashing attack. Near the end of the seventh screen, on a red roof, you will encounter Cabaji, to receive his Unicycle; you will need to beat him up until he flies off the screen (there will be a sound effect and an oval hit spark to signify this). Most times, you will not be able to beat him first time, so just move on to the nearby eighth screen and back to fight him again. Don't worry about his damage resetting, because the damage stacks over time. You will receive Cabaji's Unicycle at the end of the stage. To receive the second coin, near the beginning of the eighth screen you will see a horizontal yellow Rocket Pole, press down and jump to fall underneath it, then use Gum Gum Rocket to fly up to the ledge above. Make you way up to the crate or use Gum Gum Grab to latch onto the crate and bring it down to you. If you got the Fist from the previous screen and you still have the invincibility effect, you can just run into him to kill him (takes 4-5 hits, but they come really quick). The damage still stacks BTW. The first coin can be found at the start of the third screen, use the diagonal Rocket Pole to launch yourself up to the ledge with the crate. Break it open for the coin. You will find Butchie at the top of the fourth screen, like Siam before him; defeat him to receive the Cape at the end of the level. I'm pretty sure you need to defeat both Butchie and Siam in the same level to get the item. The second coin is in the eighth screen, when the wind is blowing in your face, use the Rocket Poles to launch yourself to the diagonal right, then turn and use them to launch across the top of the screen to the left. To the second coin, during an ambush on the seventh screen, there should be a large green mast behind you. Jump up and use Gum Gum Grab to bring down a wooden crate containing the coin! On the fourth screen, by staying on the upper levels, you should find Johnny and Yasaku; Zolo's Bounty Hunter friends. They will inform Zolo that Mihawk is nearby, and Zolo will run off. You will then find Mihawk on floating wreckage in the sixth screen. Zolo will challenge him, and Mihawk will easily defeat him. Mihawk is impressed with Zolo's determination, and he will pledge to fight Zolo again before disappearing. You will then get Mihawk's Black Sword for your troubles. The second coin is found after the encounter with Choo. Break open the horizontal wooden blockade using Gum Gum Spear and fall down into the next screen, head right and break through the wooden crates to find the second coin! The Snail is found on the upper path of where you find Usopp. You will find the crooked Captain Nezumi who stole all of Nami's berries. After talking to him, defeat the marine grunts that attack you, then send Nezumi flying with an attack (don't bother wasting a special on him, a Running Kick should do the trick). The third coin is found in the screen after the Bounty Hunters. You will see a crate sitting on a tiny ledge at the end of an ice path, jump up carefully on to this ledge and break the crate to receive your coin. To get the first coin, after finding Sanji, go down the wooden platforms to get inside the building and make your way down until you see a wooden crate. Break open the crate to find a coin. To get Zolo's new swords; Kitetsu III and Yubashiri, once you've opened the last door and made it to the next screen, try and stay on the upper path until you get to the next screen on the right. After an ambush you should come across the sword shop owner who will offer Zolo these two new swords. To get the Elephant Tuna, just drop down to the left from the entrance to where the sword shop owner was, and you'll find Carmen the Chef, who admits to Sanji that he's better then her, and will then give you Elephant Tuna. The second coin can be found on the next screen, take the upper path, past the wrecking balls, cannons and spikes, and at the end you'll find a crate with a coin in it. _______________________________________________________________________________ 3.1.7 - PORT TOWN [PRT3010700]* _______________________________________________________________________________ Back to Port Town we go! Although it's only for a short stop; we got to get the Treasure Key off Chouchou, not only is it a Collection Item, but it also lets us unlock those pesky chests littered throughout every area. To get the first coin, go back into the first entrance (the one before Chouchou), once you get to the end of the blue roof above you, use Gum Gum Spear at the height of your jump to propel you onto it. This would spare you the pain of an ambush. Make your way to the left to find a chest and a wooden crate. The coin is in the chest. The second coin is back on the normal route. On the fourth screen, make your way to the top after the ambush and you will be able to see the Chest on the other side of the wall. You can actually get it from here. Do a Gum Gum Spear whilst holding left against the wall. If you nail the Spear at the right time you should jump over the wall. Inside the chest is the second coin. Gum Gum Spear back over the wall to continue your adventure. Or you could use Gum Gum Balloon to bounce a cannonball into the block that is in front of a door.
