Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses - Gameboy Advance 


In this game you play Genevieve out to rescue her sisters in the 
Golden Pavilion.  They’ve been hidden by Rowena, and you have to 
avoid her goons, and natural dangers, to reach them.  Each princess 
(or group of princesses) will give you her dancing shoes when you 
find them.  Each new pair of shoes creates a different move, which 
you’ll need to advance in the game.

Buttons

A – jump/OK/scroll through speech bubbles
B – Use a shoe-specific move/back
R – Change shoes
Arrow Pad – move left and right, even while jumping/press up to 
    go through doorways
L and the Arrow Pad held together – lets you stay in one place while 
    looking around the scene (you can still be injured while using 
    this)
Start – pauses the game, and offers the “Continue” or “Quit” options/
    scroll through the beginning text faster


Game Mode

New Game – if you’re just starting out, select this option.  
    You will get to choose between Easy Mode (unlimited lives) 
    and Normal Mode (three extra lives).  Lives are represented 
    by pink hearts in the screen’s top-left corner.
Continues Game – you have to type in a password first to be able  
    to continue
Password – Write down each password you reach so if you have to 
    stop the game, you can pick up where you left off.  If you use a 
    password to continue a game, you’ll start in your original dress.
    The passwords in this walkthrough may be different than the ones 
    you get.


Mini-Games

Throughout the game are three mini-games, each with two levels, 
and a chance to earn an extra life capacity.  You can access them 
for fun from the main menu even if you haven’t reached them in 
the game, but there will only be one level and no chance at extra lives.  

Butterfly Catch
The object is to catch all the butterflies with your net.  In 
the screen’s top right corner is a butterfly counter, which counts 
down the number of butterflies left to catch.  Level 1 has 
fourteen butterflies to catch, and Level 2 has sixteen.  Each 
time you pass a shaking bush, even if you only jump by it, a 
butterfly will fly out.  It will flutter back and forth slowly 
upward, so if you don’t swipe it up quickly it will get out of 
reach.  For best results, swipe twice in quick succession, especially 
after a jump.  Once you pass a bush it will stop shaking.  You may 
have to backtrack or jump on ledges to find all the bushes.

Ribbon Race
The object of this mini-game is to use the purple shoes to reach 
the doorway at the top before time runs out.  As you ascend, the 
screen will slowly move up with you.  It will start moving as soon 
as you do.  If you’re at the bottom of the screen when it moves up, 
you’ll “faint” and have to start over.  You can’t change out of 
purple shoes here.  There are two levels, and the best advice is 
to stay as high as you can.  Remember, you can jump onto gargoyle 
heads on the castle walls as well as ledges.  You can still direct 
Barbie even if you can’t see her.  There are no critters or 
possessed objects in the mini-game.  There will be some backtracking 
and close-calls, but that extra heart is worth it!

Book Challenge
The object of this mini-game is to reach the doorway before 
time runs out.  The time counts down at the top right corner.  
Each level starts at 1:45.  Use the B button to pick up the stack 
of books already there.  When you pick up a stack, it shows up 
under the timer.  You can only pick up one at a time, so you’ll 
have to backtrack a lot between dropping off and picking up books.  

Walkthrough

New Game
You can press Start to scroll through the beginning story faster.
Walk right, then press A to scroll through speech bubbles.  Walk 
right, and press Up to enter the doorway.  Walk right, and jump 
right onto a ledge.  Watch out!  There are vases high above you 
that will fall (on you) as you walk under them.  You’ll know them 
by the “Whoa-whoa-whoa” they make before they fall.  Every danger 
will be there again if you walk away and walk back.  Keep jumping 
right until you get to the far ledge.  If you fall, go to the 
center of the floor, where there’s a ledge even with you’re crown, 
and jump straight up onto it.  Enter the doorway.

Walk right up the stairs and meet your second bane: ants.  For 
now you just have to avoid them, since their lines are too long 
to jump over.  Wait on the stairs till they’re gone, then jump 
onto the ledge on your left.  If you fall, the only way to get 
back without getting hurt is to follow the ants back to the edge 
of the stairs, then jump over them while they’re turning around 
and their line is shorter.  Keep jumping right until you reach the 
far ledge, and go through the doorway.

Walk right, up the stairs (watch out for vases), and jump right 
and up on the ledges until you reach the far ledge.  Walk right, 
and jump up and right again to get to another far ledge.  You’ll 
notice some ledges you can just fall off onto the next one.  If 
you fall, walk left and try again.  Enter the doorway.

Walk right all the way through the flower tiles on the floor.  
At the end you’ll get your first password.  You’ll notice the 
passwords are pictures instead of letters.  It doesn’t matter 
what you call them, as long as you can recognize and re-enter 
them if you have to.

Man, Man, Cat, Man		- the Golden Pavilion, first door 

Now you’ll see the real method of the game: beat the level within 
each door in the Golden Pavilion to open/reach the next door.  
You’ll hear a monkey (Brutus) screech in the background.  That’s 
always a sign you’ll meet up with him later, and he’s a pain.  For 
right now, walk right and jump onto the tree ledge quickly.  If 
you’re not quick enough, Brutus will jump on you and hurt you.  
You can’t outrun him.  If you get to the ledge he’ll just jump 
around under you.  Jump up and right to meet your next foe: the 
crow.  They fly at you out of nowhere, and for right now you’ll 
just have to jump up or down to avoid them.  Jump right, get a 
life, and meet Twyla.  You don’t have to do anything for her to 
work, just keep walking right.  Fall off the ledge on purpose, 
and you’ll see Twyla chase him away.  He’s gone for good.  Find 
the lowest ledge, and jump up onto the next ones until you reach 
the top ledge.  Then walk right and jump onto the far ledge.  
Enter the doorway.

Walk right and onto the stairs.  You’re next enemies are beetles.  
They’re just like ants, only easier to jump over.  To be safe, wait 
on the stairs till it’s gone, then jump up and left onto the ledge.  
Follow the ledges up to the top, then walk right.  Watch out for the 
crow and ants.  At the end of this ledge you’ll encounter an evil 
little bluebird.  It’s just like a crow, except he flies in a 
straight line.  Jump up and right to reach the far ledge.  If you 
fall, you’ll meet the sadistic ladybug.  You’ll hear it even if you 
don’t fall.  It gets more excited the closer you are, and will jump 
around trying to hurt you.  You can outrun or jump over it till you 
reach a low ledge.  Then jump up and continue to the doorway.

Use the ledge to the right to jump (right) over the ants.  If you’re 
not sure where they are, press the L and arrow buttons together to 
look around.  Go down the steps, jump the crow, and jump right again 
over the cricket onto the steps.  Crickets act just like ladybugs.  
At the bottom of these steps you’ll find the triplets, Janessa, 
Kathleen and Lacey.  Their dancing shoes, which appear in yellow 
above you, come with a butterfly net.  As long as your wearing the 
green-and-yellow dress, you can press the B button to swing the net 
and get rid of pests.  You can jump and swing at the same time.  Use 
this new skill to get up onto the next ledges safely.  The net knocks 
away everything but vases, and Brutus (and spiders, pink plants and 
ferns, but those come later).  Jump right onto the far ledge, walk 
right, and go through the doorway.

Brunette, Blonde, Man, Blond	- first door, level 2

Walk right and jump onto the first ledge.  If you fall at any time, 
you can walk back and start over from here.  Jump up and left, then up 
and right, then walk right and down onto the next ledges.  Jump up and 
right, up and left, and up and right again.  Watch out for falling 
vases!  Walk right, jump down, and walk right until you reach the 
doorway.  Kill the ladybug before trying to enter it.  The vases can 
hurt you even if you’ve already pressed Up.

Walk right, and you’ll see a big blue spider.  They crawl around 
under ledges and try to descend on you as you pass under them.  
The butterfly net won’t work against them, but they can’t catch 
you unless you stop.  Jump up and right onto the first ledge, then 
up and left twice.  Walk left and jump onto the tree ledge with the 
ant.  Jump up left, up right and up right to get to the top tree 
ledge.  Keep walking and jumping right till you reach the ledge with 
the free life.  Fall down onto the ledge with the pink toothy plant.
You can walk through it only when it’s curled down.  Walk left off 
two ledges, then walk right and you’ll see a fern.  Their purpose 
is to slow you down so the spiders can catch you.  If you get caught 
it one, the only way to escape is hold down the left or right arrow 
key until it lets you go, so it’s best to jump over it.  Fall down, 
walk left, and go through the doorway.

Timing is important in this part, so don’t rush.  Walk left and 
down lots of stairs.  Walk past three pink plants and jump up two 
ledges.  Walk left, avoid a fern and spider, and jump up left, up 
right and walk right.  Jump up two ledges, kill a crow, and jump 
up three more tree ledges.  Go left  until you reach another 
ledge with a free life.  Fall down and left two ledges, but watch 
out for the ladybugs!  Jump up some more until you see two tree 
ledges above you, one on the left with a beetle, and a little 
one on the right.  The one on the right leads you to Felix and 
the first mini-game (Butterfly Catch).  The left ledge leads you 
past Brutus and to the next doorway.  

If you go right, keep walking and jumping right until you see 
Felix on his perch.  Talk to him, then go through the doorway.  

Butterfly Catch
The object is to catch all the butterflies with your net.  In the 
screen’s top right corner is a butterfly counter, which counts down 
the number of butterflies left to catch.  Level 1 has fourteen 
butterflies to catch, and Level 2 has sixteen.  Each time you pass 
a shaking bush, even if you only jump by it, a butterfly will fly out.

When you finish the mini-game, you’ll be back in your original 
pink dress.  Press R to switch to the yellow shoes and be able 
to use the butterfly net again.  Otherwise, jump and walk left, 
let Twyla chase away Brutus, and keep going until you get to the 
next doorway.  

Brunette, Shoes, Monkey, Shoes	- second door

Now you’re inside again.  Put on the yellow shoes just to be 
safe.  Jump up and right till you reach the ledge with the cupid 
statue.  If you fall, you’ll meet a new enemy: the possessed tea 
kettle.  It floats around your head, and will pour green tea on 
you if it catches you.  You can either use the butterfly net to 
knock it away, or walk by it quickly.  Keep jumping right till 
you get to the far ledge.  (The portrait of the woman in purple 
is of the princess’s mother, Isabella.)  Walk right and go 
through the doorway.    

Walk right and down a long stairway.  Avoid a tea kettle, and 
at the far right, jump up seven ledges till you see the doorway 
on the far right ledge.  Jump right onto it, watch out for the 
vase, and walk through the doorway.  

Jump up the four ledges on your left, then jump right onto the 
top of the chandelier.  Avoid the spiders, and keep jumping right 
until you get to the doorway at the far right ledge.

Blonde, Blonde, Cat, Brunette	- second door, level 2

Jump up and right two ledges, then right onto the far ledge.  
Avoid the spiders, and keep jumping up until you jump right onto 
another far ledge.  Go down the stairs.  Don’t fall off!  If you 
do, you’ll meet Brutus at the bottom without Twyla to chase him 
away, and you’ll have to jump up onto a ledge to escape him.  
Instead, when you reach the end of the stairs, jump right to 
land on a ledge safely above him.  Jump up and right to reach the 
far ledge.  When you reach it, you an either go straight to the 
doorway, or keep jumping up to a ledge with a free life first, 
then fall onto the far ledge.  Either way, go through the doorway.  

Go up the stairs, kill the ants, and jump up three ledges.  Avoid 
the spider, and jump right across the chandeliers.  Fall off the 
last one and go through the doorway below it.  

Walk right, and here you’ll meet the twins, Hadley and Isla.  
They’ll give you a new pair of shoes that will help you walk across 
pits on stilts when the right sign is present.  The new shoes are 
green, and the new dress is light blue and purple.  To use the new 
shoes, make sure the green ones are above you and the pink picture 
of a princess on stilts is posted on the ledge, and simply keep 
walking when the ledge ends.  Walk to the far right, then jump up 
and left until you see a rat on the ledge to your left.  Switch to 
yellow shoes to kill it with the butterfly net, then switch back to 
green shoes.  Keep jumping up and right, over the next rat, and onto 
the chandeliers.  You’ll get a free life, and after the second 
chandelier, fall down and right twice to reach the next doorway. 

Next you’ll meet the first of three villains: Fabian the Apothecary.  
He’ll start as soon as you move.  The object is to hit the potions 
he throws with your butterfly net so he’ll hurt himself on the 
broken glass.  While he jumps around in pain, or right after you’re 
injured, you can pass him safely as he runs to the other side.  
Watch your distance and timing.  He’ll start with one potion, then 
throw two at a time.  You can jump over a broken potion if you have 
to.  The vertical meter on the right tells you how injured he is.
It takes four injuries to defeat him. 

Parrot, Cat, Cat, Parrot	- third door (green shoes needed)

This part is tricky because of all the backtracking.  Jump up two 
platforms, then left, then up two more, then right.  You’ll 
steadily descend then ascend, but keep going right till you reach 
the open door. 

Don’t go right!  If you fall at any time, you’ll have walk all the 
way back here.  Jump up till you reach the top level.  Drop down to 
get a heart, then jump right and avoid the spider.  Jump up three 
levels, go right, use the stilts, jump a gap, and jump up three 
levels to reach the open door.

Walk right, use the stilts, jump over the crow, and keep walking 
right.  You’ll meet the next new foe: the guard.  You can’t defeat 
him, only avoid or jump over him (and jumping over him just right 
is hard).  You’re best bet will always be to jump up a level to 
avoid him.  Here, keep jumping up and left till the crow flies at 
you.  Jump over the crow, then go left.  Don’t jump right.  Keep 
walking and jumping left.  Go slow the first time, or the crows 
will sneak up on you.  When you see the spider, it’s time to jump 
up and start walking right again.  See? I told you there’s a lot 
of backtracking.  Use the stilts, and keep walking right.  After
the first time you have to jump right, you’ll see a gap.  Don’t jump.  
Fall off the right edge, then jump up.  After that, jump 
up and right till you reach the open door.

Man, Blonde, Brunette, Man		- third door, level 2

Make sure you’re in green shoes, then keep jumping off the right 
ledges.  You’ll fall to the very bottom level.  Keep walking right, 
even across pits.  You’ll have to jump over a guard and avoid tea 
kettles.  When you get to the far right, jump up the ledges to Twyla 
and the open door.  You might want to change into yellow shoes to 
kill a rat on one of the ledges, since it’s hard to avoid.

In yellow shoes, jump up the ledges to the top level.  You’ll 
encounter a rat, crow, and falling vase on the way.  In green shoes, 
walk right, jump over a guard, and walk right.  Jump off the right 
ledge, then the next one, to land on stilts at the bottom level.  
Walk right, avoid a tea kettle, and jump up the ledges and to the 
left.  You’ll have to watch out for the spider and Brutus at the top.  
Time your ascents carefully there.  Twyla will chase off Brutus if you 
don’t run into him first, then jump up and walk left to the open door.

In green shoes, walk right and avoid a tea kettle to meet the next 
two sisters: Edeline and Fallon.  They’ll give you purple dancing 
shoes (purple dress), which will let you make a ribbon staircase 
when the right sign appears.  For now, go back to green shoes.  
Walk right and jump up the ledges.  You might want to change into 
yellow shoes to kill a rat on one of the ledges, since it’s hard to 
avoid.  Jump and walk left as far as you can, then jump up, right a 
little, and up some more.  Avoid a spider, and use the green shoes 
to walk right.  Jump and walk right, and Twyla will chase away Brutus 
right before you reach the open door.  
Man, Cat, Shoes, Brunette	- fourth door (purple shoes needed)

At the sign, use the purple shoes to make your first ribbon staircase.
Pillars make rats hard to see on this level, so watch out.

Walk up it to get to the next door.  In yellow shoes, walk right, 
kill a rat, and jump back and forth to higher ledges.  Jump over a 
crow, jump up some more, and eventually walk left.  At the far left, 
jump up, kill a rat to your left, then jump up and kill another rat 
on the next left ledge.  Jump and walk right to reach the open door.
Avoid a tea kettle.

Walk left, jump over a vine trap, and walk left.  At the edge, jump 
left and you’ll land on a lower ledge.  Jump up, walk left and kill 
a rat.  Then jump up, walk right and kill a rat.Walk right, kill a 
crow, and avoid a vine trap.  Jump up and left, and avoid a couple tea 
kettles.  You can jump onto gargoyle heads if the jump looks too far.
Jump left to reach the open door.

Walk left, jump two ledges, kill the rat, and jump up another ledge.  
Use the purple shoes to go up the ribbon to your left.  Jump up, use 
the green shoes to cross the two gaps to the right, and walk right.
Avoid a tea kettle, crow and vine all at once.  Jump up two ledges 
and walk right.  Jump right onto another ledge, then jump up, left 
and up again.  Walk left, jump up twice.  Jump right, walk right and 
jump up.  Jump left and right onto short ledges to reach the open door.

Shoes, Shoes, Brunette, Man	- fourth door, level 2

Use yellow shoes first.  Walk right, kill two rats, and jump right 
at the ledge’s end.  Kill a tea kettle, and jump right.  Jump up, 
jump right, then jump left and jump up.  Kill another rat, and walk 
left.  Jump up, avoid a crow, and use the purple shoes to walk right.  
Jump up, right and left.  Walk left, and avoid a tea kettle.  Keep 
going left.  At the end of the ledge, get to the very edge and jump 
fall left into a fern.  You’ll have to walk right to get out of 
it, then jump over it and to the left.  Use the purple shoes to 
walk left.  Change to yellow shoes while on the ribbon, and kill 
a rat on the next ledge.  Walk left, jump up, and use the purple 
shoes to walk right.  Wait till the vase falls, then jump up.  Jump 
left.  Jump left to reach the open door.

In yellow shoes, walk left, kill a rat, and jump up twice.  To 
reach the mini-game, jump down and right off the ledge with the 
ribbon sign.  You’ll land on a ledge with a pink button on the 
floor.  Jump on it, and a bridge will swing up to your right.  
Walk across it, jump on another button, and walk right till you 
talk to Felix.  Enter the doorway to your right to start the 
ribbon race mini-game.

Ribbon Race
The object of this mini-game is to use the purple shoes to reach 
the doorway at the top before time runs out.  As you ascend, the 
screen will slowly move up with you.  It will start moving as soon 
as you do.  If you’re at the bottom of the screen when it moves up, 
you’ll “faint” and have to start over.  You can’t change out of 
purple shoes here.  There are two levels, and the best advice is 
to stay as high as you can.  Remember, you can jump onto gargoyle 
heads on the castle walls as well as ledges.  You can still direct 
Barbie even if you can’t see her.  There are no critters or possessed 
objects in the mini-game.  There will be some backtracking and 
close-calls, but that extra heart is worth it!  To get back to 
playing after the mini-game, just fall off the left.  You’ll land 
on a walkway.  Keep walking left, and you’ll pass the (closed) 
doorway from which you started.  In yellow shoes, walk left, kill 
a rat, and jump up twice.

Otherwise, use the purple shoes to walk right.  Walk right, avoid 
the fern and jump up.  Jump left, then right, then use the purple 
shoes to walk right.  Walk right, avoid a spider, and jump right.  
Use the purple shoes to walk right, and change to yellow shoes.  
Jump up, kill a rat, and walk left.  Again, jump up twice and use 
the purple shoes to walk right.  Walk right, avoid a vase and tea 
kettle, and use the purple shoes to walk right.  Avoid a rat and 
jump up to reach the open door.

Keep walking right to meet the next two sisters, Edeline and Delia.  
They’ll give you their pink dancing shoes and croquet mallet.  (The 
new dress is light pink and white.)  To use it, press B and you’ll 
see a white flashing line going up from the mallet.  That’s the way 
the ball will go.  Press B again to hit the ball.  Press A to quit 
trying to use the mallet.  You’ll use these shoes later to make the 
ball hit certain levers when you see the orange croquet sign.  It may 
take you a few tries to get accurate.

For now, change back to yellow shoes, and jump over ledges to keep 
walking right.  Kill a rat, and fall off the right edge.  Change to 
green shoes, walk left, and fall off the left edge.  At the bottom 
you’ll see a fern.  Avoid it, and use the stilts to walk left over 
two gaps.  Jump up, jump left, and use the ribbon to walk left, then 
use it to walk right.  Be careful: you can’t move while unfurling the 
ribbon, so the tea kettle may get you if you’re not quick (or don’t 
change shoes quickly to kill it).  Jump right, jump up, walk right, 
and jump up again.  Jump right, walk right, avoid a tea kettle, and 
jump right off the ledge, but not too far!  If you overshoot it, 
you’ll be back to using stilts.  You should fall onto the top of a 
small tower.  Jump down and left, avoid a crow, and you should see the 
open door on the next ledge to the left.  Jump down to it.  If you 
fall on a different ledge, just keep jumping left (or use the ribbon) 
to get to the open door.  

Here you’ll meet your second nemesis: the big soldier, or gladiator.
You can’t change shoes on this part.  You can, however, avoid him by 
jumping over him, or onto one of the two ledges above him.  To beat this 
guy, you have to stand at either the far right or left end, and wait for 
him to charge you.  He’ll put up his shield to charge.  Wait till the 
last second, and jump up and right/left over him and/or onto a ledge.  
Hopefully he’ll miss you and crash into the wall, hurting himself.  The 
good news is, even if he gets you, he’ll still crash.  You can pass him 
safely right after either of you is injured.  The vertical bar on the 
right shows how much life he has left.  You have to do this successfully 
five times to beat him.

Man, Man, Cat, Blonde	- fifth door (pink shoes needed)

Fall off the right ledge, and use the croquet mallet for the first time.  
Enter the next doorway.

Go up the stairs, wait on them for the guard to walk away, then 
jump up and left onto the ledge.  Jump up four more ledges, then 
once more onto the ceiling ledge.  Walk right and you’ll see a spider 
beneath you.  It can’t hurt you.  When you get to the end, don’t jump off, 
or you’ll fall into a pink plant.  Press A and Down at the same 
time to fall straight down, then pass the plant while it’s curled up.
Walk right till you see a guard, then jump onto the lowest bookshelf.
You might want to switch to yellow shoes to kill the ants on one shelf.
Jump up and left onto the next five bookshelves, then up and left up 
two ledges.  Jump up and right, then down and right onto the ledge 
with the vine.  Avoid the spider and tea kettle.  Pass the vine, and 
jump up and right three ledges.  When you see the ceiling ledge, wait 
for the spider to move before jumping onto it.  There are two ledges 
on this part of the ceiling you can use to avoid the spiders, so jump 
up and fall down as needed.  You can only fall down one ledge at a time.
Walk right, and when you get to the ledges’ end, drop down all the way, 
and go through the doorway.

Walk right, drop off the edge, and keep walking right.  You’ll 
walk between some bookshelves.  Avoid the guard, and jump up them 
to the right four times, then back to the left another four times 
till you reach the ledge.  Use yellow shoes for the ants.  After you 
reach the ledge, you’ll jump right across a bunch of short ledges 
till you reach the one with the doorway.  Wait till the spider moves 
before entering.

Walk right, and avoid two pink vines and a guard at the end.  
Starting at the far right, use the ledges and bookshelves to 
jump up and left.  Watch out for falling vases and tea kettles.  
Finally you’ll reach a tall bookshelf to your left.  Go ahead and 
jump onto it, even though you can’t see the top.  The ledge is in 
it’s middle.  Then jump up and right until you use your purple 
shoes twice in a row to walk right.  Jump up the ledges, avoid a 
vine, spider and vase, and jump left across several short ledges.
Pass the vine, and keep jumping left.  You might want yellow shoes 
for a tea kettle.  Use your purple shoes to walk left, jump up, and 
talk to the next sister, Courtney.  She’ll give you her blue dancing 
shoes, which come with a blue dress and stack of books.  These shoes 
provide a stack of books when you press B that you can jump onto to 
reach higher ledges.  Walk left, and enter the doorway.

Brunette, Blonde, Cat, Brunette	- fifth door, level 2

Walk to the far right, and jump over the guard onto the ledge.  
Jump left and up onto a series of short ledges.  Avoid a vine and 
spider to reach the ceiling ledge.  Walk and jump right, then 
jump up and right onto ledges and bookshelves.  Avoid the tea 
kettles.  When the last ledge runs out, fall off and walk right 
down the staircase.  Keep walking right, but avoid the vase and 
spider.  Before the vine on the far right, jump up and left three 
bookshelves.  Before jumping up and right, wait for the spider to 
move.  You’ll see the doorway above you and to the right, but you 
can’t reach it yet.  Instead, avoid the spider and jump up onto 
the two ledges to your left.  Jump up onto the ceiling ledge and 
walk to the far right.  Enter the doorway.

Don’t go down the stairs.  Jump up and right onto the ledges.  When 
you reach the ceiling ledge, use the blue shoes to jump onto the 
ledge with Felix on it.  As he’ll tell you, the doorway leads to the 
third and final mini-game: the Book Challenge.  

Book Challenge
The object of this mini-game is to reach the doorway before time runs 
out.  The time counts down at the top right corner.  Each level starts 
at 1:45.  Use the B button to pick up the stack of books already there.
When you pick up a stack, it shows up under the timer.  You can only 
pick up one at a time, so you’ll have to backtrack a lot between 
dropping off and picking up books.  

There are three ways to get to the doorway.  The fastest and easiest 
is to follow the ceiling ledge below and to the right of the mini-game 
door, then take a flying jump to the right.  You can also either drop 
off the right edge of the highest ceiling ledge, or jump off it onto 
several small ledges and bookshelves, and use walk up the stairs to your 
left.  

Walk right, and jump (not drop) off the edge.  Avoid the carnivorous 
plant, and use the blue shoes to jump onto the right ledge.  Walk 
right, and do the same thing again, only avoid ants this time.  Avoid 
the carnivorous plant, and drop (don’t jump) off the next right ledge.
Avoid another carnivorous plant, and jump onto a bookshelf to avoid a 
guard.  Watch out for ants, spiders and tea kettles, and jump right, 
then left up the bookshelves.  From the last ledge, jump onto the 
ceiling ledge and walk left till you reach the doorway.  Watch out for 
a spider.  

Blonde, Man, Duchess, Man	- sixth door (blue shoes needed)

Use the blue shoes to jump onto the right ledge, then jump off it and 
enter the last doorway.

Yay!  New scenery!  Welcome to the stables and grounds.  You’ll want 
yellow shoes for all the pests.  Walk right, and fall down a series 
of ledges.  Walk right, use the blue shoes, and keep walking right.  
At the far end, jump up two ledges, and use your purple shoes to go 
right.  Jump onto the next right ledge, go up the stairs and through 
the doorway.

Watch out for the crow and spider, and use the blue shoes to jump 
up two ledges.  Walk right, go down the stairs, and use your green 
shoes for the first time in a long time to cross a chasm.  Use your 
yellow shoes to kill the ant parade and crow, then green shoes again.
Walk right, up the stairs, and kill the rat on the ledges above you 
on the left.  Jump up three ledges, and enter the doorway on your left.

Kill the rat on the ledge, then jump up and use the purple shoes to 
go left.  Wait for the spider to move, and jump down and left onto 
the next ledge.  Avoid a crow, and jump all the way down.  Walk left 
and greet your next sister, Brianna (Blair in the movie).  She’ll give 
you her red dancing shoes and a red-and-white dress to match.  When 
you see the sign beside Brianna, press B and the Right or Left arrow 
button at the same time to run extra fast across (usually to cross 
bridges that fall out from under you).  You get to use this move right 
away to go left across two bridges.  There are ants on the grass between 
the bridges.  Go left, up the stairs, and use the blue shoes to jump up 
onto the next ledge.  Use the purple shoes to go right, but switch to 
yellow shoes on the ribbon to kill the rat on the next ledge.  Walk 
right, and go through the doorway.

Blonde, Brunette, Blonde, Blonde	- sixth door, level 2

Walk left, up the stairs, and avoid a crow.  Use your new red shoes 
to cross a bridge, then walk down the stairs to your left. Jump up 
two ledges, and use the purple shoes to go right.  At the ledge’s 
end, avoid a crow and rat, and use the blue shoes twice to keep 
jumping up.  At the top, use the red shoes to run right.  Avoid a 
crow and spider, and jump right onto the ledge with the red shoe sign.  
Run right, and enter the doorway.

Walk left, and jump up and left twice.  Use the purple shoes to 
go right, then again to go left.  Use the blue shoes twice to keep 
jumping up, then jump right till you reach the red shoe sign.  Avoid 
a crow, and run right.  Avoid a spider and rat, fall or jump off 
the far right edge, and walk left to the doorway.  

Walk left, down the stairs, and use the purple shoes to go left.  
Fall or jump down three ledges, and from here there are two ways 
to reach the doorway.  The easiest is to walk all the way left, 
fall off the roof, avoid a crow, and enter the doorway on your right.
The longer way is to fall or jump of the right ledge, walk left, and 
use your red shoes to run left across two bridges to the doorway.

Now you’ll face your third foe (and last before Rowena): Desmond.  
His health meter is the vertical pink bar on the screen’s right edge.  
You can’t change out of your light pink shoes here.  Desmond will walk 
back and forth, and sometimes stomp to make crates fall from the 
ceiling.  If he or the crates touch you, you get hurt.  You have to aim 
your croquet ball so it knocks a crate onto Desmond’s head.    He will 
also pick up the fallen crates to hurl at you.  While he’s doing this, 
he’s standing still long enough for you to get a hit (if he doesn’t hit 
you first).  You can’t move while you’re aiming the croquet ball.  Three 
times will defeat him.

Cat, Blonde, Duchess, Brunette	- sixth door, level 3

Enter the clock tower.  First, jump up onto the moving ledge, then 
up onto the stationary one above it.  Jump right onto the next 
moving ledge.  Jump up onto the stationary ledge.  If you fall, you 
can use the green shoes to walk left across the chasm and start over.  
When you reach see the lever in the top right, use the light pink 
shoes to hit it and start the ledge to the left moving.  Get on it, 
and at the top jump up and left onto the stationary ledge.  Jump right 
onto the next moving ledge.  

When it takes you to the far right, jump onto the wall ledge.  Jump 
up, walk right, and jump right onto the moving ledge.  At its end, 
jump onto the small stationary ledge, then right onto the next 
moving ledge.  At the end of this ledge, you can jump right to get 
a heart, or up to the ledge with the ribbon sign.  Use the purple 
shoes to walk left, then jump right twice onto a moving ledge.  
Jump right onto the wall ledge, and use the red shoes to make a 
running jump onto the far right ledge (there’s no sign here).  Use 
the shoes on the next ledge where there is a sign to run right 
across the bridge.  If you fall, use the green shoes to walk left 
across the chasm, then the light pink shoes to hit the lever.  The 
lever will drop a bridge, which you can use to jump onto the moving 
ledge that will take you back up.  

Keep going right until you see the ribbon sign.  Use the purple 
shoes to walk right.  At the top, use the blue shoes to drop books 
onto the pink button and start the ledge below moving.  Jump onto 
it, then drop off at the end onto the left stationary ledge.  Wait 
for the ledge below it to the right to come, then jump onto it.  
If you fall, you can use the green shoes to walk left across the 
chasms.  There’s a heart at the far left, and between the two chasms 
is a moving ledge you can jump onto to take you up.  

At its top, just jump up and to the left to get back to the 
ledge moving right.  When you see the lever, jump onto the 
stationary ledge below it, and use the light pink shoes to hit 
it.  A bridge will drop down, and you can walk across it to the 
right.  Jump up onto the ledge with the ribbon sign, and use 
the purple shoes to walk left, then right.  Jump right onto the 
wall ledge, then right onto a moving ledge.  At the end, drop 
onto a small stationary ledge, and wait for the next moving ledge 
on the right.  

Drop onto it, and then drop onto the stationary ledge at the 
bottom.  Use the blue shoes to jump onto the next ledge to the 
right.  Keep jumping up until you reach the ledge with the 
ribbon sign.  Use the purple shoes to walk left onto a moving 
ledge.  Jump up twice, and use the red shoes make a running jump 
to the right.  Use the blue shoes twice to jump up onto the next 
wall ledges and reach the doorway.    

Hall of Mirrors

Enter the Hall of Mirrors, the longest and weirdest level by 
far.  As you walk right, you’ll see your reflection in the 
mirrors on the wall behind you.  In the third mirror, you’ll 
see the reflection of a ledge, with no real ledge in front of 
you. Jump up, and you’ll see the reflection jump onto the ledge, 
while the in-color you is standing on nothing.  Get used to it.  
Avoid a guard, and keep going right.  

Jump down two ledges to the right, and use the green shoes to 
walk right.  Use the blue shoes to reach the next ledge, then 
jump down onto the floor ledge.  Jump up twice, and use the 
purple shoes to walk left.  Use the blue shoes to drop books 
onto the pink button to your left, and jump onto the resulting 
bridge.  Jump left, and walk all the way to your left.  Jump up 
and use the purple shoes to walk right.  Use the red shoes to 
make a running jump left.  Walk left, and use the blue shoes to 
drop books on the pink button on the floor.  Then stand a few 
paces to the button’s left, and use  the light pink shoes to hit 
the lever above you and to the right (it’s out of sight unless 
you use the L and arrow keys to see it).  

Jump onto the bridge that falls down when you hit the lever, 
and jump up again.  Step on the button to the left, and walk 
right over the resulting bridge.  Use the light pink shoes to 
hit another lever just like the previous one.  Jump up, and 
walk left over the resulting bridge.  Before the end, jump left 
onto the ledge and keep walking left.  Use the purple ribbon 
to walk left, then right.  Use the red shoes to make a running 
jump left.  Drop left off the ledge, but watch out for the 
guard below.  There’s a ledge halfway over you can use to avoid 
him.  Keep walking left, and at the end jump up twice.  Jump 
right, and use the light pink shoes to hit a lever above and 
to the left.  

Use the blue shoes to stack books at the end of the ledge, then 
jump up onto the bridge.  Jump up, and use the purple shoes to 
walk right.  Jump right twice, and at the end you’ll see a 
running sign.  Use the red shoes to run right, but halfway 
through you’ll have to jump a ledge and keep running.  If you 
miss, the bridge will fall away before you can catch up, and 
you’ll have to jump up from the floor level and try again.  This 
happens twice in a row.  Afterwards, jump right, and use the 
purple shoes to walk right.  Use the blue shoes when necessary 
to jump up several ledges.  At the top you’ll see a walled-in 
ledge.  Jump up three of them and you’ll be on a floor with a 
patrolling guard.  You can use the A and down arrow buttons to 
fall down a ledge and avoid him.  

Walk left, and jump or fall straight down.  Walk left and you’ll 
need the green shoes to keep going.  If you fall, you’ll have to 
walk right all the way back, and jump up twice to get back here 
and try again.  At the next ledge, jump left, and use the purple 
shoes to go left.  At the top, jump over the gap, don’t just keep 
walking.  Use the purple shoes again to walk left.  Jump left 
three times, and use the light pink shoes to hit the lever up and 
to your left.  Walk left across the resulting bridge, and jump 
down and left.  Walk all the way left, and use the A and down 
arrow buttons together to fall down the small, walled-in ledges.  
Enter the doorway on the right.  

Facing Rowena

After the spiel, the bridges will collapse under you and you’ll fall 
to the bottom level.  Quickly change to yellow shoes, and knock out 
the possessed mirrors.  Then use the blue shoes to stack books onto 
the pink button on the floor.  The bridges will return, and you can 
jump up to face Rowena (you’ll need the blue shoes again to jump up).  
Use the light pink shoes to hit the lever up and to the right to 
return the bridges.  Go ahead and get into the yellow shoes again.  
At the top, face Rowena, and use the yellow shoes to knock the silvery 
gust of magic back at her.  You can also jump over the gusts to avoid 
them.  She’ll throw a fit, and collapse the bridges again.  You have 
to hit her three times to defeat her (the pink bar on the screen’s 
left shows her health status).    If you want to avoid climbing back 
up every time, just jump onto the ledge below the lever right after 
you use the yellow shoes.  When the bridges collapse, you can restart 
from there instead of from the floor (and avoid the floating mirrors).  

Rowena has now magically transported you to honeycomb of small rooms.  
Watch out for falling vases as you come in and out of doorways.  Enter 
the doorways in this order: right, left.  Here you’ll meet Twyla.  
Re-enter that door.  Then go far right, far left, right.  Here Twyla 
will chase away Brutus.  Go right, and you’ll see Rowena disappear 
before a half-open doorway to the right.  Enter it.

Rowena’s Last Stand

Get into yellow shoes.  You’ll have to hit the silvery mist back at 
Rowena three times to defeat her.  Again, the pink bar on the screen’s 
right shows her health status.  She’ll disappear and reappear either 
at the top or bottom, left or right of the room.  She may also send 
floating mirrors (which can float up to the top ledge) or tea kettles 
at you.  Try to defeat her as quickly as possible, because the she’ll 
send more and more items and fewer mists at you as time passes.  
She’ll also send out Brutus at some point, and with no Twyla you’ll 
have to stay on the top ledges to avoid him.  This means fewer chances 
at Rowena.  

When you finally defeat Rowena, the whole family gathers in the throne 
room to celebrate.  From left to right: Brianna (aka Blair), Courtney, 
Isla, Hadley, Genevieve, King Randolph, Janessa, Kathleen, Lacey, 
Edeline, Delia, Ashlyn and Fallon.  After the credits, the game will 
automatically restart.
