The Rugrats Movie
Review by Ryan Gillam
"Bet the publishers are kicking themselves now...."
Wow, just when I thought games could not get any worse I found this game in a bargain bin, and it makes Hugo for the Playstation look like a god. The game is just so simple and does not excel at anything in the actual game.
Graphics 3/10
Ok, the characters do have a lot of detail considering it is on the gameboy, the environments do look OK, but not brilliant even though it is on a handheld console. But the game was designed for children so I don't really think the graphics really matter to them. The graphics do get 3/10 as at least some effort has gone into them, unlike the rest of the game.
Sound 1/10
Well when you switch the gameboy on you are greeted by the ever popular Rugrats theme tune, but thats about it. The sound is very annoying and keeps on repeating its self over and over again. It is enough to make you want to break the gameboys speaker, or at least turn the sound down. Therefore sound gets 1/10 because the them song is actually pretty cool.
Story 0/10
Based on the movie, although you don't really know it is based on the movie when you begin to play it. The story is that confusing, but then again movie tie-ins hardly ever work. Story gets 0/10 because it claims to be something it is not.
Gameplay 1/10
There is some person at THQ that thought of the idea for this game. They must have been having an off day. The game is very repetitive, as you are always doing the same thing, collecting cookies and getting killed. It is even to hard for most young people I know, so the game was not really that well thought through. There is the bonus of playing as most of the rugrats though, although they all play the same so there is nothing new when changing characters. The difficulty is extreme, I am 16 and this game is still hard.
Replay Value 0/10
Only replay this game if you have batteries to spare and all your other games are broken.
Rent or Buy???
Please do neither, unless you really enjoy Rugrats or want to get all released games for the GB.
