"Classic Creep Capers is a good but short game"
Based upon the original series, Scooby-Doo! Where are you?, Scooby-Doo! Classic Creep Capers follows the episode Nowhere to Hyde.
The story begins with the Mystery Machine running out of gas on an old dirt road, and the gang is after the criminal known as the Ghost Thief. The Mystery Machine breaks down on an old dirt road that leads to the Jekyll mansion, and the gang heads to the mansion to get some help.
The graphics are great, and the detail is good. Digital Eclipse also paid attention to get the animation of the characters right.
The music is great, and the quality is excellent.
Classic Creep Capers is loosely based upon the episode Nowhere to Hyde, and the problem is that some new content was written for the game to extent the length of the game. The new content is very weak, and the jokes are stale and unfunny. One example is that Shaggy says he is hungry and could eat cheese, and shortly thereafter Shaggy comes to a room full of cheese that he must eat to continue forward. If you have seen the episode, you already know who the culprit is however the reasoning has changed and not for the good. The "idea" they come up with is so dumb that it comes off as cheap and not funny.
The game plays like part adventure and part point-and-click game. The player has control over the character, and when they walk near certain objects, one to three icons will pop up. Hitting "A" will bring up a menu with several options that include talk, look, and pick up/use. The controls are simple and easy to grasp, and they are responsive.
The puzzles in Classic Creep Capers are good and are not that difficult except for one that is borderline game breaking. The puzzle involves watching a robot walk through three doors and each door represents a number, and the player will then have to walk through the door that represents the last number of the combination. The solution is given to the player by a boy in the mansion however the boy only gives a single random combination so if the player wants more combination they have to leave the room and walk back in. Here is the fatal flaw with the puzzle which is that combination the boy gives may or may not be the correct combination at all. The doors the robot goes through are completely random like the combination that is given which means the combinations that are given may never be the correct answer. Pretty much it comes down to going through a random door and hoping that it is the right answer. This puzzle should have been either fixed or removed, and it hurts the game.
In the game, every one of the gang is playable, and if the player gets stuck, swapping to another character may be needed to move forward.
Scooby-Doo! Classic Creep Capers take place over six levels, and the amount areas in the game are lacking including only a mansion and a laboratory.
While Scooby-Doo! Classic Creep Capers is a good game, there are a few problems. First is the title which says Classic Creep Capers and with Capers being plural, I was expecting it to be several cases from the show however there is only one case even though the N64 version has four cases (only three of them are based upon episodes from the show) that are completely different from the GBC game. Next problem is the length which can be beaten in about thirty minutes to two hours. The last problem is the replay value. There is no replay value at all, and once the game is beaten, the only thing left to do is replay the game.
