Deja Vu I and II
Review by ED6EMA5TER
"Spectacular!"
I first played ''Deja Vu'' on the Nintendo Entertainment System around the time of its release on the system in 1990. I was overwhelmed when I heard of its rerelease on the Game Boy Color along with the unreleased sequel. I was damned impressed with what I saw. ''Deja Vu'' starts off with P.I. Ace Harding (whom you control), lying in a bathroom stall, half-dead, with amnesia. He doesn't remember who he is, and it is up to you to help him get his memory back. Not only that, but there's a story behind the amnesia. How did he get it? Was there a reason for it? Well, you're going to have to play the game to find out! The controls are easy-to-learn, because it's all in the form of a menu. Like the internet, just point and click. This game relies on your skills as a detective to help solve the case that determines your future, as well as fate. You decide what you're going to use, what items will you take that you think will prove useful later on, where will you go, and most importantly, is there a way to cure the amnesia?
''Deja Vu II'' starts from where ''Deja Vu'' left off. However, the story changes from right under your nose. The main goal is to find $112,000 to give to a mob boss or else you're dead, and he's got his 7' 400 lb. all-muscle-no-brains hitman keeping his eye on you.
(Please note that the following rating apply to both ''Deja Vu'' and ''Deja Vu II''.)
Physical features:
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics are the most detailed in any Game Boy Color game, the 52 colors are all there, and they have greatly improved on the graphics from the NES version thanks to Kemco.
Sound/Music: 8/10
Specifically, the music in the game is amazing, it adds to the atmosphere of the game. You can actually enjoy it as you proceed on your life-saving mission. The sound effects are a little disappointing since they seem outdated, as if you're playing a game of Space Invaders (not to say that the sound in that game was bad, but this is the 1990s, err, 21st century!).
Replayability: 5/10
Replayability really depends on you. Do you want to go through this again? You decide. I can't say too much, but I didn't experience the feel to play the first game again. Because of this, it's up to you to decide whether you want to buy this game, or rent it. I would recommend renting it, but I bought it instantly since I enjoyed the game, which I hadn't played in 10 years. But I would suggest that you do buy it, because it's just damned fun!
