Hot Wheels: Stunt Track Driver
Review by ND9k
"This one only skids by..."
Game Boy Color... this system is home to some great games, but also some bad games. Sadly, I felt that Hot Wheels Stunt Track Driver was classified into the latter category. Why? Because it just was not racing, and it didn't even incorporate ''stunts'' in the game! However, it does have a few good points, which are below...
Story 1/10- You are racing Hot Wheels cars down track. You try to come in first.
Graphics 3/10- This is not Game Boy Color. GBC has the ability to make wonderfully colored games, and this is just terrible! There are few colors, and the colors there are look dark and drab. However, some of the backgrounds do look fairly good, which saves the graphics department somewhat.
Gameplay 5/10- As explained in the intro, you simply race Hot Wheels cars down orange track. The ''stunt'' part of the title means that you can do flips and jump over gaps, but to be honest, there wasn't much ''stunt'' at all! However, one fun thing about the game is that all races take place in different parts of the house, and every track features loops.
There are five other cars on the track with you, and you can flip into them and knock them off the track! This really brought up the rating, but does get a bit lame after a while. Of course, the rival racers can also flip you out!
The best part of the game are the unlockables. Of course, there are only two! You can unlock a bonus car and you can unlock a new track! How you do it, though, is up to you to find...
The worst part of the game is the fact that there is no multiplayer! Right here, there is practically no replay value in this game, despite the unlockables! Sad; just sad.
Sound 2/10- If there was any other sounds other than the squeal of the cars, I missed them! Overall, very, very poor on the sound! I mean, there isn't even a crash when you fall off the track!
Music 6/10- The music for this game is unexpectingly good. Each track features its own tune, and they are quite good and refreshing. The music really helps this game, and there is even a sound test to listen to it!
Verdict-
Story 1/10
Graphics 3/10
Gameplay 5/10
Sound 2/10
Music 6/10
Pros:
Nice tunes.
Unlockables.
Cons:
No multiplayer.
Little, if any, sound.
So much more could have been added!
Final Word- This game is by no means a must-have. If you desperately want it, rent it, but do not buy it. While the few innovations it features are nice, it is not worthy to be a racing title and not fun at all!
