"The greatest 2 player strategy game of all-time!"

Did you just say 2-player strategy game?
Yes, I did. Its a genre that is since ignored by all but Tetris clones. The battlefield Real Time Strategy split screen game remains the most fun thing that 2 players can do together. I prefer bouts of Herzog over bouts of Street Fighter or Puzzle Fighter!
What's the gameplay like?
Unbelievable. That the little Genesis can handle 2 people in real time flying mechs across a differing terrain as they order different kinds of troops to deploy at different locations with different command orders...well, its stunning. We haven't see anything as complex for any of the 32, 64, or 128 bit platforms to date. This was a launch title with Genesis and available as a free game if you bought two others (what I did). Against a dumb opponent you can just order tanks, command them to attack base; then carry them half the screen and drop them before you blow up. But when you get to higher levels the computer or a learned human opponent; the battles can last for 6 to 8 hours. The longest fight I ever had was with my college roommate and it lasted 12.
How's the music?
A little 16 bit machine with synthesized themes managed to dump some of the coolest music ever on me. I again posit that this music is better than the Final Fantasy music. Themes I remember are ''Jagd Flieger,'' ''The Iron Giant,'' ''Funeral March,'' and ''Death of the Iron Knights.'' This is music I would dig having on CD.
Why post this review ten years later?
Because I want a sequel! This game was too good to fade away and if you have access to Genesis emulators: you need to check out this game. I believe that $40 Genesii are still at ToysRUs but the game cartridge itself is in short supply. I pray for emulation ROMs just so that the game can be preserved on CD as it should be. Its got to remain an important note in video-game history. Anyone who ever played this will never forget it.
