Phantasy Star IV
Review by CMorrison
"I like this game...I like it a lot."
*To Sega of Japan* YOU WILL MAKE PHANTASY STAR 5, YES, YOU WILL OR AN UNGANGLY MOB OF PHANTASY STAR FANS WILL TRAMPLE YOU.
Gameplay(7): Nothing spectacular for a RPG, it's even a step down for the Phantasy Star series. Turn based combat. However there is a "macro" where you can combine spells to make devistating effect.
Story(8): There's not much to do on the barren desert planet of Motavia...except fight monsters! Chaz and Alys are summoned by the academy to kill some monsters in the basement, but when they find out that the academy is actually breeding the monsters themselves, it bring on a chain of events, eventually leading them to peril, and possibly the end of the world.
Audio(7): The tunes in this game are alright-sound effects? Who listens to sound effects anyway?
Video(8): Graphics aren't as smooth as they could of been, but the anime type sequence make up for it. Those scences are a nice blast of color compared to the monochrome blacks, whites, and yellows.
Replayability: It's an RPG! You make the call here!
To buy or to rent: Remember when this one came out, it had a hefty price tag of $100? Luckily it's 1999. You should be able to find it in a bargain bin at Wal-Mart or somewhere. Do yourself a favor and buy it.
