"Sonic the Hedgehog 2: The Sequel of the Century"
Sonic- the best creation ever seen by Sega. Sure, other games had their kicks, but Sonic was the greatest. Sonic 2 was a big sequel, and not just a repeat of the first game, but a true masterpiece! Not only did they add Miles, or "Tails" the fox, but they added the spin dash, a staple move for a spinning hedgehog, and updated the graphics too! This is definitely my favorite Sonic game, and if you can buy it or get it via Sonic Mega Collection, it's definitely worth it! Definite 10/10!
Great for its time! Intricate backrounds and enemies! The game does great keeping up with the speed of the running!
You can't listen to the tunes on this game without jamming! The title song is totally fitting, while if you listen to the Chemical Plant Zone's music, it has the odd, industrial feel. The Hill Top Zone also has a outdoorsy feel relating to the area!
You can do so much on here with such a simple controller! It's easy unless you're a total dunce at pushing buttons at the same time, yet all of Sonic's moves are extremely effective.
There isn't really much of a story here, but still, the game gets along without one. You still love the feel of saving Mobius from Dr. Robotnic!
The levels are all quite different, with beautiful or creepy scenery depending on the feel of the stage, and nothing gets too repetative. For example, the Emerald Hill Zone has a great, easygoing backround, while the Mystic Cave Zone just sends shivers down your spine if you pause for a moment. Then again, you don't usually pause because you're too busy running!
On another note, there's a lot of glitches that people can exploit for fun twists, like level select or debug mode. However, they usually don't mess up the cartridge or interrupt gameplay when they are unwanted, so they aren't a problem.
Also, there's a two- player mode that is totally new from the original game. The first player can be Sonic, while the second player is Tails. You can play Vs. in the designated 2-player mode, or co-oop in the single player to beat the game!
The game is rather difficult, but nothing an experienced gamer can't handle, and can give you a few hours of gameplay bliss, and it is generally worth replaying, for there are some hidden paths and twists that you can find sometimes if you look carefully. Also, if you plug in your Sonic and Knuckles cartridge, you can play single player as Knuckles for even more possibilities!
All in all, this is an exciting game worth buying if you can find it. If not, look for the GC Sonic Mega Collection or other such titles. For sure, it is the best Sonic game that was ever released!
