"The Best Sonic Game To Date"
After the success of Sonic 1, Sega knew they needed a sequel. After all, he was their mascot and no mascot is complete with 1 game to their name. So Sonic Team finally came up with this title, and it turned out to be an even better success. Also, a new character has burst onto the scene to join the furiously fast hedgehog: Tails the Fox. There's not much else to talk about here other than praising the game, so let's move on the the review.
A fantastic improvement from the first, adding a brand-new move: the Spin-Dash, an extremely fast spinning maneuver that adds so much more to this gem. The level design is almost flawless, although some parts are annoying (Annoying enemies in Metropolis Zone, etc.) Sonic is much faster now, and even beats his own game at some points. A mix of speedy dash zones and puzzle acts give this game variety, and even the lesser-liked levels are enjoyable. Overall, the speed and physics make this game feel like a true classic.
A vast improvement over Sonic 1 here, this game looks beautiful. Every little bit seems to be colourful and detailed, and this is definitely one of the best looking games out there, even now.
A recycled plot, and I can't help but feel it's not right. I've seen it before in Sonic 1, and all thats different now is that Tails has tagged along for the ride. Not much thinking from Sega here, so it's the low point of this game.
Arguably the best part of this game is the music. Every song in the game seems to be catchy, and it's certainly got the best music out of any Genesis games. They fit perfectly with the themes of the levels, and from the get-go, you will enjoy this game's powerful beats.
Perfect controls, immediate response, and easy to learn. Not many moves to choose from, but simple is successful.
I, along with many others, played this game for hours on end when it came out. Even now it is still really fun to play, and even losing doesn't feel too bad. You'll want to beat it forever, and when you finally do, you'll want to revisit the excellently designed zones over and over again. Probably the most fun you could have on a Genesis game.
It really is the perfect sequel, and it's all explained in the review. Sonic 2 rid Sonic 1s flaws, and made it's good bits amazingly better. An immediate buy, in a collection with all the other classics of course.
