"You get to punch enemies, yay"

Ask people what the Sega classics from the 80s are and most certainly people are going to mention this. Why they'd mention this is beyond me. The control sucks, the enemies suck, your character sucks, the levels suck, the whole game pretty much sucks, yet this is one of Sega's classics? I don't know who thought that up, but I'm disagreeing with them.

In this game you have to rescue a princess from an evil sorceror (oh, such an ORIGINAL story line). You are a dead guy who gets raised from the grave to rescue the princess. You (and your partner, if you have a second player) fight all the enemies you see until you see a flashing bull. If you defeat the flashing bull, you get an orb that pumps you up. Get three of the orbs, and you turn into a beast. The beast is different in every level. For example, the first level you turn into a wolf, but the second it's a dragon, and so on. Once you're the beast (and so is your partner if you have one) when you get to the end of the level you get to fight a boss, rather than have the level keep scrolling. The boss is usually some hideously ugly giant thing that the wizard turns into. Beat the boss and you get to fight in another level of pure boredom.

The graphics of this game aren't really that bad. They look pretty good, and the monsters all look pretty disgusting. The sound is average, first generation Genesis sound, and the voices (yes this game has VOICES) are horrible. The play control isn't that good either, but it's not like your guy can do much. He can punch, kick, and jump. Talk about variety.

The only redeeming value that this game has is the fact that you get to turn into monsters. Other than that, it's a below-average side scroller that controls like a slug, and has about as much variety as a rock. If you absolutely must play this game, even if it's just to see how bad it really is, go ahead and rent it, but don't complain to me about wasting 2 dollars to have the game for five days.
