Review by NES4EVER

"Not good, not great. But OK...."

Lotus Turbo Challenge is an OK game, I wouldnt call it a great game because it doesnt really offer much in the way of Gameplay. The graphics are mediocre, and the sound is average. I will explain fully throughout the review.

GAMEPLAY

There isnt much in the way of gameplay, the only modes in this game are 1 player racing or 2 player racing. Both modes put you up against 16 competitors(all Lotus of course) and a checkpoint clock. As soon as the race starts, its not a matter of finishing first, its a matter of hauling your butt to the next checkpoint. Which sometimes can be quite challenging. There are really only 3 things to do in your car, Go forward, brake and one button(which I find totally useless) makes your driver go ''YEEE HAW!''. I wouldnt call it bad because it at least requires some skill to beat and can be thrilling at some times. But most of the time, it just doesnt give you a sensation of racing.

CONTROL

Control is kind of good. Your hardly evere required to brake and the Lotus's usually hold the road well, like they do in real life. as I have stated previously, there are only 3 buttons to choose from, which can be viewed as good, because there isnt much of a learning curve(AT ALL!) but its also bad because there really isnt much else to do then hold down the gas button and plow your way across the finish line. But they really screwed up with the YEE HAW button, I mean couldnt they at least have thought up a use for an extra button? This isnt one of EA's better accomplishments.

SOUND

Well, it has VERY LOUD(at least in my case)menu music that gets on your nerves after a while. and the cars sort of sound like actual revving engines. But other then that, the noises and music are pretty plain. It wont be one of the main reasons to buy this game.

GRAPHICS

What can I say? they arent bad. This is actually one of the things in this game I like, the backgrounds are distinguishable and the cars look similar to a lotus. Thats about the deepest description I can come up with.

REPLAY

There isnt much so to speak of. There are only about five or six levels and once you beat the game, well you just have memories. I guess someone whos really bored on a rainy day would play this a second time.

CONCLUSION

Its an OK game at best. It doesnt stand out from the competition in any categories. the cars look like cars, the vrooms sound like vrooms, and you probably wont like this game. If your looking for a good racing game for Sega Genesis, then get Road Rash. Sorry, but this game wont impress you.
